Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

I miss the bagels too :(

They don't even serve bagels in the dining halls on gameday!

The bagels were great until it effected the game and cost Oswego because people showed up to the game just to throw a freaking bagel on the ice.

While I loved the tradition and was one of the few students who actually understood and knew what it was about, I wasn't upset to see it go because of the effect on the SUNYAC playoff game in 2006 and people just showing up to throw the bagel and then peacing out.

Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

bagels - schmagels...the only reason to throw them was they sucked - the bagels, I mean.

I guess we'll need some Sharpies to customize and personalize the company issued T's....

Agreed...I'll never forget how upset Gosek was after the penalty was called. Would Oswego have won? Maybe and maybe not, but it cetainly affected the game negatively.

Absolutely. It was more about the fact the penalty gave Oswego NO chance of winning especially once Platty scored the PP goal to pretty much seal the deal and take any momentum the Lakers might have had and tossed it out the window.

Romney deserved better.

I distinctly remember the same thing (or something similar) happening the other way in Stafford on multiple occasions.

"Me, you, punch in the face. You're not even gonna see it coming." That is perhaps my favorite McLaughlin quote of all time.

Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

I know this is probably a seasonal question, but do the SUNYAC playoffs get re-seeded? I think I already know the answer, but I wanted to make sure.

Honestly, I started thinking about the question because I was wondering if it would be at all possible for Patrick Kaleta to make an appearance at the CC. I know his kid brother plays for Cortland and the only way it would be possible would be for Cortland to make the SUNYACs and pull an upset in the first round. The Sabres last game before March is Feb. 13 so he wouldn't have NHL obligations on February 27th...

Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

Games are always held at the higher seed, there isn't a set bracket.

Don't get me excited...

I've always found the easiest way to remember (for me anyway) is that the SUNYAC playoff format is exactly the same as the NFL playoff format (for one conference). The top two seeds get a bye and the remaining four play a wild card round to determine who goes to the semi's. The #1 seed will get the lowest seed remaining and the #2 seed will get the highest remaining seed after the "Wild-Card Tuesday" is over. So there isn't any re-seeding, but it's not a preset bracket.

Games are always held at the higher seed, there isn't a set bracket.

The "bracket" is:

Play-In: (#6) @ (#3)
(#5) @ (#4)

Semifinals: Lowest Remaining Seed @ #1
Second Lowest Remaining Seed vs #2

Finals: Lowest Remaining Seed vs Highest Remaining Seed

Bagels are not missed.

Hell, it's been more than 10 years since Antifonario's shutout in Plattsburgh. That "tradition" died because it needed to.

The tradition died because the students lost the meaning and it became a social event rather than having a rivalry meaning.

There are thousands of traditions in college sports that have been going on a lot longer than the bagel tradition and are still going because the students/fans that carry them out actually care about it and its meaning.

Has the Post-Standard ever covered the Lakers this much?

Not complaining just saying I don't remember them ever really covering the Lakers that much.

3 years ago at Stafford, the Platty fans showed this to be fact!! They took seats right behind the Oswego bench. On the Plattsburgh first goal they stood up and fired tennis balls into the bench, at the players coming to bench, and the Oswego goalie Ryan Scott. Once unarmed vacated the building WITHOUT security escort. Laughing all the way. Oswego fans were able to fill the seats behind the bench after that!!

Bagels became the focal point, not the game. THIS would include the locals as well as the students. Having assisted in cleaning up bagels at Romney. It is not missed be the staff either!! LOL The Whiteout was hatched by the Booster club as a way to avoid the bagel penalty. Coach Gosek wanted it to end!!! With assistance from the college, they had it advertised to the students and the "townies" --> COME TO THE WHITEOUT!!! Oswego vs Palttsburgh. A much better tradition than, BRING YOUR STALE BAGELS!!!!!

Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

Gosek mentioned the two weeks off being good to rest injuries. I remember Rodrigues getting hurt recently, the Adrian game I believe. Are there some other ones I've forgotten or was he just speaking in generalities?
