Oswego Lakers 2023-24...Light The Lamp.....Lets go Lakers!!!!!!!!

Prez is making way more money where he is now. And probably less stress...

Backdraft, I appreciate the kind words. The SID/Athletic Comm. profession will always have a piece of my heart, but as Russell alludes to, I don’t see myself going back any time soon unless something drastic changes.

The profession as a whole is treated very poorly with low wages, terrible hours and rarely a seat at the table to help “fix” or come up with solutions to make the situation better. Usually, especially at the D2 and D3 level it also comes with more and more responsibilities and expectations every year as well.

I love Oswego and always enjoy catching up with Eddie from time to time, but sadly Oswego’s SID situation continues to be neglected. I’ve kept my eye on it for the last decade. But they still don’t have a full-time assistant and it’s still one of the lowest or lowest paid position in the SUNYAC. In 2023 nearly every school has at least 2 people in the office, not to mention a school with 24 sports.

Hopefully they’ll make some adjustments to the position in the near future and they’ll be able to attract and retain better talent.

I have very much enjoyed my transition to the high school AD level. It has also had its challenges and stress, but overall every day even with my hardest days I look back and say I’m glad I was able to leave the Sid profession.

And yes, the money difference was definitely a big factor as well!

I’ve been able to keep my toes in the Sid world on my own control though the last 2 years. I’ve helped MIT, Endicott and the NEWMAC Conference with some work that I’ve enjoyed doing when it’s suited my schedule.

I interviewed for the SID job at Oswego around 15 years ago. I was doing my Master’s and looking to cut my teeth in the profession of Sports Information. I loved many facets of it, but I am glad it didn’t work out. I remember the crazy hours I had as an assistant SID and multiply it by 4. It is definitely a job that doesn’t receive enough support. That is probably the reason why there is so much movement. When I applied I thought the pay was decent (I had several interviews and Oswego actually paid the best) but the amount of work compared to other SID positions on other campuses is crazy, making the job not attractive.

USCHO never used to publish a PWR until about January until recently, and with good reason.

It's utterly meaningless at this point.

That is true. Then College Hockey News started publishing theirs in the first week of the season, and USCHO felt pressured (re: clicks) to publish theirs in the first week as well.

Dominant win tonight on the road. Those wednesday away games are always trap games and its good to see the lakers avoid that by putting up 71 shots!!! Lets hope Cals injury doesn't last too long, we got Geneseo, Elmira, Utica, and Pl*******h coming up the next 3 weeks. While Milberg is a solid option for the Fredonias and Morrisvilles of the world, I'm not yet sold on him for the big games

Have I missed something? Looked at two different schedules and there are no Potsdam games. Am I blind or something going on?

I don't know what schedules you were looking at, but Potsdam was the first SUNYAC school to post their schedule. It's right on their website.

Oh no cal did something to his back he couldn't even sit up straight he had to lay on his back and then he got carried off by his team mates. It was another situation where the puck was sitting in the blue paint 3 inches from the net and all hell broke loose.

ugh never want to see an injury to any player, but a proven net minder is a killer when they go down, maybe just had a back spasm,I get those but I am 59yo.....Hope hes better soon

Pl********h up to freaking #1 in the country, while we sit at #5. I know us nerds don't care about the polls at all but imagine if the game on 12/2 is a 1vs5 or even 1vs3 matchup. Gotta be one of the most highly ranked/highly anticipated regular season matches in the rivalries history.
