Open Wheel Racing 2021, anyone there to watch?

Thread not closed yet…

Liberty Media announces deal to buy MotoGP.

Interesting that now both top motorsports’ World Championships will be run by LM.

Looked at MotoGP, what a hard fall they’ve had. In 2006 they had 7 manufacturers and 14 teams with riders from Italy, the US (4 of them including World Champion Nicky Hayden), Australia, Spain, Japan, Germany, and Britain.

In 2024 they have 5 manufacturers and 11 teams with all the riders being from Italy and Spain except for two French, one South African, one Portuguese, one Japanese, and one Australian.

Every racing site on the planet had a screaming headline last night that Adrian Newey is leaving Red Bull, and every one of them had a disclaimer buried a dozen paragraphs down that it was a rumor and there was no corroboration.

The rumors are strong and loud. But as much as I hate RBR and Horner, the fact that they are operating as such a super high level kind of mutes the rumors of problems. To me at least.

The valid news sites are stating credible sources.

What's interesting is if you read Red Bull's comments, none of them explicitly state it's not true. They talk about a contract that runs through 2025. They talk about they are unaware of Newey talking to any other teams.

But they never state that Newey has not told them he wants to leave. They never address the actual rumor -- that Newey is leaving. Wouldn't you think that Red Bull, Horner, or even Newey himself, would state that this is BS? None of them have.

Hulkenberg breaking up the Haas Q1 Scandinavian Pairing and going to Sauber --> Audi.

Contract will take him past his 40th birthday. I thought only swarthy equatorial types could manage that?

He's allegedly a good car development driver. Which kind of points to the team predicting problems with the car in 2026.

It's the next big rules change, right? That plus a new team seems like a recipe for chaos. Now what they need are Italian strategists.

The forces of darkness are stopped. For one day.

I can't remember any anthems except Netherlands and Austria.
