Open Wheel Racing 2021, anyone there to watch?

Keep in mind, everything in racing is a compromise. Everything. So when a team has to answer all those strategy questions you asked in a previous post -- on the fly no less -- they are weighing the best compromise(s) possible.

Which makes “Monday morning team principal” more fun, lol.

Two words -- Adrian Newey.

! Yes sir. Newey has designed more championship cars than Brady has Super Bowls.
EDIT. newey has designed cars that have won 7 F1 titles and 2 INDYCAR titles from what I can tell. So 9-7 Newey vs Brady

Side note thinking about F1…I live in Milwaukee. My dad’s favorite racecar driver not named A.J. Foyt was Jim Clark. Next year in August will be 60 years since Clark won an INDYCAR race at the Milwaukee Mile. Tonight I found the race program from 1963. Man…what an incredible era that must have been for race fans.

So Red Bull exceeded the 2021 budget cap. https://the-race.com/formula-1/red-bull-breached-f1-budget-cap-penalty-not-yet-decided/

What should happen is Red Bull and their drivers lose points and money- so that the teams understand that the cap has some real bite to it. But I bet that won't happen, and a minor infraction won't mean much. And all the teams who can will exceed the limit strategically just like they do for powertrain exceeding the limit- which has been shown many times is such a weak penalty that teams do it at the right tracks because they can.

And how long have you been following Formula 1? LOL

TIL Mario Andretti is wee. He's listed at 5-6 but most people say in person he would be hard pressed to claim 5-5.

I've met him, he's a pretty short guy. But he's also the norm for most open wheel racers. Guys like George Russell are not the norm.

I think open wheelers are no longer all that short anymore. The general population keeps getting taller for one thing. Ocon may not be a Russell height, but he's up there. Dixon is at least average height. There are other F1 drivers who I'm sure give headaches to the technical designers...

Yes, Mario is very short. I've met him also.

Remember Howdy Holmes? He was extremely short, jockey size. I remember he once said he fully believed that he had a reflex advantage, because his nerve signals had less distance to cover. He actually said that. Don't know how much tongue in cheek, though...
