Re: Open Wheel Racing 2012: The year of the ugly cars!
sad, sad, sad.
this may be the last milwaukee open wheel race. I'm hearing just north of 13,000 sold thusfar. the week of the race. jesus christ. just no advertising like they used to do in the 80's and 90's. nothing at brookfield square, no billboards. which very likely means absolutely no advertising in chicago.
Andretti has very much disappointed here.
I think you need to give Andretti some slack here as his company didn't exactly plan promote this race until late in the planning season. With that being said, his promotion company still needs to do an good job or everyone will lose money. However, if there are so many great race fans up in that area as I keep reading about (on other forums) then it should not be a problem to sell out given the cheap ticket prices. If this race doesn't draw well then Indycar needs to move on to other venues (if they can find them).
In a very off topic, but totally on spririt, update- WolverineTrumpet's boyfriend (who I think does lurk these boards) had a great weekend down in Mid-Ohio running in the Skip Barber Pro Miata series- ignore the fact that he started 3/4 and finished 2/4, the SB cars start at the back of the Playboy Series cars, so he started 22 overall, and finished 14th!! That's a lot of faster cars to pass! Nicely done!
That is impressive!
sooo, what should I expect to be able to see? Practice? Qualifying? Not much? Thanks, and I think I'm as excited about seeing the new IndyCars as I am about the rest of my baseball park trip...
There should be at least one round of practice for Indycar on Friday, plus some practice and maybe qualifying for the support races.
Watched both of the races this past weekend and thought both were excellent. I was pleasantly surprised by the Texas race. It's so good to see drivers actually have to drive the car on an oval and not just hold it to the floor.
The F1 race was very good too. Good mix of strategy and passing to mix up the order. It's amazing how far F2012 has come this season. On Sunday the car genuinely had pace to fight for a win.
So, I just read that the China Indycar race has been cancelled. You have to wonder how much longer the BoT in Indy are going to keep supporting Bernard with these kind of gaffs continually happening. I understand they all are not his fault but he's at the top and the one to be held responsible. Again, I keep thinking that for every good thing that happens for Indycar there is a bad thing right around the corner that happens.
Word is that Izod's contract states that there must be a 16 race schedule minimum, so if this is true then I wonder where the replacement race is going to come from..... my guess is the either they will tag along on a Grand-Am or ALMS race somewhere or run the road course at Indy. Looking at the other series schedules, I personally like Watkins Glen with the Grand-Am series on 8/12 since I will already be there.

However, my thought is that it will be Indy as that way is Indycar has total control over the race and it might make the logistics easier (ticket sales, team's HQ are close, etc.)
