Open Wheel Racing 2011, hurry, before we downsize your engines....

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2011, hurry, before we downsize your engines....

I guess the bottom line is no one watches the races on tv, no one wants to buy advertising on tv, no one ewants to produce it on tv, no one goes to the races (the NH crowd was bad), honestly, why bother? I just don't know......

Yea, I dunno. I want to watch, and enjoy. But they sure make it tough to do so. That crowd. Or the stands, however you want to look at it.

Just sad.

I feel awful for Graham Rahal. he deserves a LOT better

Funny that he's part of one of the top teams in Ganassi. What are they doing wrong with him, and so right with Dario?

Sato also deserves better this year...

While I totally agree in princicpal, I also think that he and Kanaan has really turned around KV racing. Tony has his moments of great driving, and moments of I have no idea what you call it. Takuma, though- he can win. Vasser really needs to focus his team on 2, maybe 3, drivers, and dump the other two. They are a drain on being competetive.

But, I also see that w/o the KV and Andrettis- the field would be a whole lot smaller. And Ganassi (3), and Penske (3). It makes a lot of difference for team's like Fisher who is struggling to be in the field.

As for Newman Haas- can we change the name already? Mainly out of respect for previous owners.

I look at the name from the opposite direction, it's realy neat to hear that name and the legacy it has. I can remember the years when Newman Haas and Penske were mortal arch enemies. I think the broadcasts should inform the younger crowd to the great history of the team. I'd hate to see the name to fade into the sunset.

Has BB been fired yet? Randy B is in a tough spot. He came into the job knowing almost nothing about open wheel racing and BB must have been a major tutor as he got his feet under him. So now Randy B has experience and has come to know many others inside the workings of these teams and the macro organizations that support and supply the series. Does he have the ability to understand that BB is a actually a huge liability and not an asset has he must have thought early on? Can he see through that? I'm doubtful.

A name that came to me to replace BB is Gil DeFerran. He's not such an oldtimer as Little Al, has raced in both series, owned teams, and he's such an even tempered, calculated guy. He'd have instant respect from the paddock.

By that measure, there should be a Gurney team, Parnelli/Vals team, and a Chaparall team too. Where do you stop?

IMHO, carrying on NH in this dull shadow of the great team does the history great disservice. It's not Newman Haas, not even with Bourdais driving.

Heck, I even question KV racing, but am not sure if K is a heavy investor or not. V we see at each race.

Isn't the Newman Haas of today still connected with the one of the past? When they raced at the Mile, there was an article in the local newspaper about this person from WI that had been on the team though all these years in different capacities.

Well Carl is still alive isn't he? I thought his wife was sort of in charge?

anyone know what Forsythe is doing now? Barry or Kim Green?

Haas racing has history, too- he ran an F1 team. And is listed as sole owner.

Bless Paul Newman, but he passed a few years ago. Let's not degrade that great memory.

You guys see who BB appointed to resolve the protests from last weekend's race? What a crock of doggie poo; 2 USAC guys and a promoter. Further evidence BB is a walking pile of crap. How can Bernard allow this to continue?

I didn't see that but honestly I don't get why he still has a job. once you make that kind of decision (to call the race) you need to stand by it and the teams at that point need to shut-up and move on. he's turning this into a circus and inviting more derision really.

unreal.

in good news, the Senna movie is opening Sept 16 in milwaukee!

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2011, hurry, before we downsize your engines....

Danica is gone - YES!! She can take her average starting spot of 11.7 and finish spot of 10.6 to crapcar. Now if BB gets axed, it will be one of the best weeks evah!

Sad, but true.

I would like to see Montoya in Indy, just to still if he still has it.

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2011, hurry, before we downsize your engines....

I am happy in some ways that Danica is gone. The hype that the unintelligent media put on her was just too much to bear, so in that respect I am more than excited she is gone. On the other hand it is tough for Indycar to loose the most recognizable driver.

I guess this, like most of my feelings, with Indycar car are mixed. It seems like this series just can't get on a winning streak. For every "win" they have (new cars, multiple engines, good racing) they have a loss (no multiple aero kits, TGBB still in control, ABC TV coverage, etc.).

agree.

HOWEVER...GODaddy is staying w/Andretti Autosport and running commercials beginning this fall w/all 3 generations of Andretti's. VERY SMART imo.

also did anyone watch qualifying for F1? I didn't see it but am VERY HAPPY and surprised Bruno Senna starts 7th ahead of Alonso and Button!

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2011, hurry, before we downsize your engines....

Does Schumi get a start based on practice times even though he DNQ'd due to crashing out in Q1??

That is smart by GoDaddy.

McLaren F'ed up and Button didn't stay out on a drying track. He was 4th when he came in and as the track dried he dropped position. However, with that being said. Senna has a heck of a qualifying effort. Not to take anything away from Bruno, but it makes me wonder what was up with Nick.

Yeah, he will start as he was P1 in one of the early practice sessions, so he had the speed. He was just unlucky with the screw up by his team.

Once again Hamilton shows his hot head messing around with Maldonado after the qualifying session. He should have just left him alone after the checker. No sense in messing with a stupid mid-field driver when he is fighting for a top championship[ position. And IMO got lucky he didn't get a grid penalty too.

Not sure where Lewis would go- it's not like there are many ways to get down to Eau Rouge. Pastor needs to keep his emotions in check.

OTOH, not a great move on Kobiashi, which ended his race.

Great job by both Button and Schumacher who came up from the grid- Although I don't have a clue how Rosberg just drove away from the field at the start of the race. That was awesome.

In the end, Red Bull. Just wow.

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2011, hurry, before we downsize your engines....

so Indycar is 90% on going to China (street race) next season. interesting.

Randy Bernard says he's got over a dozen applicants for Vegas but only 3 that "move the needle", Travis Pastrana (who the hell is that?), Alex Zanardi, and Kasey Kahne.

I guess those last two hinge on whether Penske and Ganassi have the money to extend extra cars to them...I hope they understand how big this could be for promotion and do it

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2011, hurry, before we downsize your engines....

Pastrana's got a fairly extensive resume. He started out racing motorcycles, started doing trick riding, and then got into rally racing. He's been a champion at every one of those disciplines.
