Open Wheel Racing 2010...He's baaack...He's gone...

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2010...He's baaack...He's gone...

I can't see Kimi going from racing 16 weekends a year to 30+, hummdrumming around an oval. Too much work, not enough play-time, zero glamour.

Penske and Ferrari together?! Please Please Please do it Rog.

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2010...He's baaack...He's gone...

Well, I really thought Senna would end up at Lotus. I just don't get why he's not being given a greater chance to prove himself. After all he acquitted himself very well considering he has only been racing seriously for about 5 years...

Stirling Moss on rules changes (and ripping schumy again, insert rolleyes) http://en.espnf1.com/f1/motorsport/story/36666.html

http://en.espnf1.com/forceindia/motorsport/story/36647.html I'm unfamiliar w/Paul Di Resta but if he beat Vettel head to head in feeder series, I want him up in F1. Vettel is a punk

and finally, Austin submits their track proposal http://en.espnf1.com/usracing/motorsport/story/36700.html

Plain and simple...age and $. Too old and not enough of it.

2. check this rumor out: Question: So rumor has it from a pretty reliable source that Kurt Busch and Jimmie Johnson are possibilities for Indy in May. What is your take on this and how do you think they would complete in good equipment if they do? (Jon, Sullivan, Ind.)

Answer: I just don’t see it. It would take away from what they’re trying to accomplish in NASCAR.

Now this is the second or third time I've heard Jimmie Johnson linked to Indy.

In ONE way it makes sense to me. A sense of history combined with already doing everything one can do in one series. Really he's got nothing left to prove to nascar and he'll never make it up there w/Mario Andretti, A.J. Foyt or even the likes of Parnelli Jones and Dan Gurney if he doesn't win in more than one type of car

thoughts?

I wouldn't get any hopes up for this... IndyCar basically gave NASCAR drivers the finger by moving the start time of the 500 back to mid-afternoon in 2006... They had Robby Gordon and Tony Stewart both interested, but the logistics killed it... I don't see them going back to the late morning start to accomodate this, even if it is Stars like JJ, Tony, and Busch... Although Robby being back at Indy would be a nice excuse to head back down for the race.... I know he wants to do the double again, and with the right people, I think he can be competitive...

he's 27 and Vettel is 23. that's not too bad but I understand your point. 27 is probably too old to F1 bosses in terms of how much time you have to grow into a great driver. perhaps that happens by the time he's 30 but by then he's got 2-4 years left in F1, considering history....

I hope he considers the U.S.

This is true. I think it was INDY flexing their muscles really and saying "hey, we're king of Memorial Day weekend" but even if they still win in the t.v. ratings or it might be 50/50 that is really dumb move.

For 2011 the 500 hundred goes back to either 12cst or 11amcst start.

What I've read in the Indy Star are just rumors/scuttlebut that Jimmie Johnson is ready to try Indy because he's done everything he can in NASCAR. Also because he's an open wheeler by pedigree. Busch I'm not sure where the rumors came from but it might be possible Chevy has a connection there?

I think in general Indy is headed in the right direction and IF they can get 2-4 nascar guys there for the 500 the series can take a HUGE step in becoming what they once were in terms of casual sports fans perception

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2010...He's baaack...He's gone...

Looks like another Hungary. UGH

I don't mind it. I think there are three sections where overtaking can occur. The elevation change going into turn one should be awesome for the race start.

In the more good news category....Kanaan signs with de Ferran Dragon racing.

It's good to see Tony stay in the paddock. He deserves a ride.

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2010...He's baaack...He's gone...

Austin track - looks like turn is a for sure place to pass, and possibly 12. They should smooth out turns 16, 17 and 18 into a single circular tightening shape.

TK - great to see him land on his feet. I am a big deFerran fan.

Mike Lanagin is joining up with Rahal/Letterman; this may possibly put them over the top and back into the IRL.

I think Turns 1, 11, and 12 are all places for overtaking.

I agree on the last section. I think they could modify the section that includes turns 16 - 19 and make a better track and possibly another overtaking spot.

I said it before and this really bolsters my feelings, I REALLY like where Indycar is headed w/all these driver announcements and the intro of Lotus and GM. this all great news for us USbased open wheel fans.

I'd love to see Scheckter get a ride as he is just as good as anyone out there I feel.

If Lanigan is w/Rahal-Letterman and that pushes them to the top for $ then I'm curious as to who they'd sign. Matos? Scheckter? another young gun? go across the pond and check in w/Senna or another F1 casualty?

I agree w/you on the uphill start/finish line. that could be really good.

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2010...He's baaack...He's gone...

So there are recommended drastic changes to the 2013 rules. It will be interesting to see how it plays out....

2013 Rule Recommendations

Not to mention that the FIA wants to go to a smaller engines too.

In Indycar good news...

Simona gets a sponsor!

Great news for Simona. I thought she acquited herself really well last year.

I hope the 2nd driver they speak of is Scheckter

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2010...He's baaack...He's gone...

In the best news I have heard in a while category....... F1 will now be broadcast in HD everywhere! Yay! Now more of that crap feed that Speed has been getting.

That feed last year on the 52" plasma was almost unwatchable. I had to watch on a smaller tv in the bedroom. The next big ? is does SPEED have an HD channel? I don't get in in my neck of the woods...

IndyCar....Edmonton is back on the schedule, there will be double file restarts on ovals, the 2012 engine is a 2.2L, not 2.4L as planned originally. All these developments are on the positive side of the ledger. Sounds like they consulted with the engine mfger's prior to the change, which was smart. The best thing I read is the 2012 may be on the test track in July.

I saw this also. It really, really appears as if Bernard is making excellent progress clean up Tony's mess. I am actually excited for the next couple of seasons in Indycar!

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2010...He's baaack...He's gone...

Read on Fox that Hornish is only running 10 nationwide races and out not running any sprint races at all. What a waste of talent, though once he got onto street circuits after unification he was average on those, and average there wasn't going to win any more titles.

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2010...He's baaack...He's gone...

A few interesting notes....

US GP site to start actual construction soon.

Also looks like it will be announced today Sutil and di Resta are going to be driving for Force India. For me it's good to see Sutil in F1 for another year. I think he has a lot of talent. I just wish he could get a better drive (Mercedes).

Simona gets a three year deal with HVM and a full sponsor! This is good news. It nice to see a talented driver get rewarded for her hard work last season.

I have to say I am still in shock about how well the off season (& this past year) has gone for Indycar. I would never have guessed it. I had pretty much left the series for dead before last year. I thought a lot of the ideas were not going to work, but so far the seem to be the right moves. The only downside is no racing at the Glen!

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2010...He's baaack...He's gone...

Any idea how many IndyCar drivers will be running next week at Daytona? I see that many DP teams have signed up Cup drivers, as usual.
