I think Adrian is a borderline NCAA caliber team, but I think you're overstating it. Adrian is in a tough spot. They don't have any margin for error when they play non-conference in region if they want to gain any respect. SNC ties Hamline and it's no big deal because they can make up for it many times over in the NCHA. Adrian doesn't have that luxury when most of their schedule entails running it up on weak MCHA teams who are weak thru no fault of Adrian's. All they can do is do their part in trying to make the MCHA respectable. I picked them to split this weekend and I still expect it.

Maybe you're right. My only hesitation with them is I'm not sure they have the depth to roll 4 lines effectively against the best teams in the country.

That's about the consensus that I've heard from most level headed fans that have seen Adrian play.

Hopefully they have one line that is at least adequate defensively, otherwise it's going to be a long night next Friday versus one of (if not the best) offensive lines (Fox-Selleck-Laganiere) in the country.

Planning on hitting up Greene's for the pre-game social on Friday? Still haven't met you yet and I'd like to meet one of the most objective and hockey knowledgable Oswego fans out there.

Right now, that's a negative. I'll be getting to the game minutes before the puck drops. Maybe my plans will change though.

What exactly is the problem with adrian's 4th line?

Their whole team is fast, skilled, slick, and creates and uses open space extremely well. They're one of the best teams I've seen this year, and I'm sure Hamline feels the same way.

The pipers took advantage of their chances, and had some great snipes on their last three goals, it's not like Adrian was just getting run over all around, and it wasn't brutal goaltending either. Christian did a great job keeping Hamline in the game when Adrian was pouring on the pressure and getting lots of power play chances.

In an 11 team tournament, what 11 teams can you possibly say would be more deserving than Adrian?

They had live stats that fell asleep in the 2nd and 3rd period.

It's a shame too, as a look around the university website shows that Hamline provides streaming video of home basketball games. I think they'd be surprised at the numbers they'd see if they moved the cameras to the rink this weekend.

All last nights game showed was that Adrian is not untouchable. Sometimes I think the only people who thought they were untouchable to begin with were either Adrian fans who are new to the sport in general, or parents of some of their players.

I would not be surprised if this loss makes Adrian a better and more dangerous team in the national scope of things, and hey, you'd rather have your first loss of the season in early January than early March.

I'd expect them to come out flying today, and we'll know even more after next weekends game...

Sometimes, a loss can be a good thing to wake a team up.

I think that was the case for Elmira...

They lost to Morrisville on Oct. 30th and dropped to 1-2.

They have won eight straight now and are ranked 6th in the country. They'll have a chance to come full circle this weekned against MSOE and possibly Oswego in the Lakers tournament championship game...

Unfortunately for last year's plattsburgh team, they got their loss against Skidmore, woke up to finish out the season, and then promptly fell back asleep for the NCAAs.

I know you fully understand this, but for others viewing this conversation I'd say we can't forget the tournament isn't designed to get the top 11 teams in.

I'd probably look at putting Hamline, SNC, St. Scholastica, Oswego, Plattsburgh, Norwich, Elmira, Middlebury, and Curry above them. They are pretty close with several of those teams as well as a few teams I might rank just below them. I don't want this to look like Adrian bashing. I'm just trying to figure out where they fit. I did expect them to bounce back and beat Hamline tonight by the way. Now there are some questions I would have to imagine.
