Ok Penn State....but who is next???

Re: Ok Penn State....but who is next???

What about revisiting the idea of Canadian colleges being able to play in the NCAA? This would expand the sport west... and could spur a couple western schools to add programs if they had a conference to play in with western Canadian schools. Right now Canada is all about their juniors, but I bet the quality of players going to college would improve in Canada if they had better quality opponents and US recognition.

Given the positions of the NCAA (in all regards), Dirty has better luck getting his AIC jersey than this ever happening.

The one Canadian school with hockey that was toying with the idea of joining the NCAA, UBC, has suspended any action because joining the NCAA would apparently require UBC to undergo accreditation reviews from the US sources. That was unacceptable to UBC, which is highly rated but reflects a different Canadian system. If UBC had continued on the path toward NCAA membership, it would have been at the DII level, with DI hockey possible later.

Simon Fraser in BC did join at the NCAA DII level, but does not have hockey.

Correct, Simon Fraser is now currently in the same athletic conference that the Alaska-Fairbanks and Alaska-Anchorage have their other sports, Basketball, Volleyball, ect.

Not having hockey right now would actually be an advantage for them since they wouldn't have the awkward problem of getting rid of players from Major Juniors on their teams. The only question would be if they actually have the motivation to do it.
