Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

c'mon doc you got to be kidding me with that. Referee's don't call games based on scoreboards or any of the other crap people think. Ref's were a non factor last night and there was no need for them to be it was a clean up tempo game. I would love to see people who knock these officials get out there and try and do it....

To speak to your questions pinch and rehawkman, I have re*** games and before you say it no not at the college level, but AAA midgets and below. I will stand by what I saw watching the game on TV and some of the calls that went against Miami were based upon them being way up on the scoreboard. Ticky tack calls or one where if the score was close both players would have been taken...I'm just stating my opinion on what I saw. No big deal and it didn't have an impact on the game.

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

horribly dissapointing season, but a great great game to finish it. Carlson was flat out phenomenal tonight and his teammates should thank him. 40 saves couting the shootout... congrats Dusty that was one of the best games I've ever seen you play here.

And it was sure nice that all those redhawk fans had little to cheer about.

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

I beleive Filion was also a part of that class....and to the best of my knowledge Montgomery has never been to the ECHL...only an up and down between Jrs- AHL

I thought Montgomery had a cup o coffee in the ECHL, you're right, never made it there. Maybe he should have stayed in school. Think he was needed on the blue line this year?

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

Just checked the ohsaa site the state wrestling is next weekend so they will have to play in the barn.
Just checked it again myself. I checked there yesterday and it listed the regionals as March 4-6. (Yes, I checked it twice) Checked it just now and they list the state tourney as March 4-6.

Oh well, maybe they can help Markell clean out his office.

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

Like i said earlier in this thread ND scares me they proved it tonight beating michigan. Tickets are going to be hard for me to get if i come down.

UM 5'7" 160 lb goalie was making his first start of his college career. Looks like ND shook him. Hogan in net may have been a different story. LSSU may get a shot at him in first round.
GO LAKERS

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

The regular season is now in the books. Some reflections:

1. Quality win last night; clearly one of the season's highlights. I was proud of the players and coaches.

2. The top two contenders for this year's national title are Denver and Miami. We now have wins over both.

3. As a fanbase, we've spent much of the season feeling sorry for ourselves. Some of the comments have been warranted, some not. But if you want to see who really has it bad, check out Western's situation. Look where they're headed in the first round.

4. Longtime Buckeye fans will remember that we hosted ND in the last regular season series at the old Ice Rink. (December 1998) That weekend the building rocked. The Buckeyes closed out an era with a sweep. So OSU/ND at the old place brings back fond memories. I, for one, am psyched for next weekend's series.

5. I am saddened that one of our own has chosen to question the integrity of the on-ice officials. Challenge the quality of the work all you want. That goes with the territory. But I found the comments questioning the honesty of the officials both offensive and entirely unpersuasive.

6. Great crowd last night. OK, a good sized contingent from Miami contributed to the atmosphere. That's as it should be for an in-state rivalry. But my question for roughly half of the Buckeye fans in attendance would be: Where were you all year? We need your support all season long, not for just one or two special games.

7. I'm realistic enough to know that we're a longshot to get to the Joe this year. But regardless of the odds, GO BUCKS!

In 1998 they hosted Lake St. in the first round on there way to trip to the Finals losing to michgan state in double overtime. Last night was very satisfying for me just to show miami that they could have a dog fight if they meet in the 2nd round. Beating Denver and Miami also winning at MSU, beating Bemidji just shows when this team puts out full effort they can beat anyone on the schedule.

Yea i know but he did shut them out for the final 50 minutes on Thursday. He had to make some big saves when the game was still 2-0 in the 2nd period.

I am not questioning their integrity, it is human nature to not want to pile on a team that is already down by big margin and getting outplayed. I would never say they tried to throw the game, had it out for us or influence the outcome. I just know what I know from having been there and it's hard to pile on.

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

Earlier on in this thread it was brought up that OSU doesn't do enough to market or promote the sport and I'd like to add another culprit to the list, the Columbus Dispatch. Today's paper had only a short blurb stating just bare facts of last night's game in a column measuring 1 1/2 X 2 inches buried on page 10. Here we had the teams best effort of the year beating (if you call it such in a shootout) a team that until last week was #1 in the national rankings, a tremendous crowd that came without the enticements of special packages or promotions and albeit a little late, showing the team's potential on what it can do. Columbus' only real newspaper never gives full coverage to the team and it's an insult the lack of coverage and consideration they gave to the guys last night. They are of course big on promoting the Blue Jackets but sadly lack covering the hockey Buckeyes even with the contributors we have put in the NHL. Would it have anyone here bothered if they had cut back the size of the story about the Canadian curling team to make space to give us a bigger story? If Ohio State does do anything after this season to bring positive changes to the hockey program the Dispatch needs to be on board as well with detailed coverage and encouraging people to attend other than paid advertising by the university. I think we should be emailing their sports editor on this subject.

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

All I can say is we got " SPANKED. "

" GO BUCKS , GONE. " :D

PS. Coach called me and asked how he should play the next game on Saturday Night , I told him " DON'T SHOW UP. " :D :o :D

WOW ,

I'm happy to say that the players made a " FOOL " out of me by shutting down the # 2 team Miami. I hope they continue to play this good and make me " EAT " my words in the playoffs to. :D

The team effort they had last night was AWESOME. I was hoping to see this type of play after the Christmas break.

Glad to see Goalie Dustin Carlson kept us in the game as he stood on his head. Like I have said before he is the stronger goalie when it comes to breakaways and shoot-outs. :)

" GO BUCKS GO. "

Take this momentum and run with it in the playoffs. :)

this is very interesting.......from the perspective of a Boston area college hockey fan and i think that in our area UConn may be comparable. With them, it seems to me that if they even gave a passing interest in hockey they would probably be pretty good in a relatively short amount of time, see their football program

You are correct; I fixed my post.

The series I was recalling was actually played the following December. As noted in my corrected post, that was the last regular season series at the old Ice Rink. I momentarily forgot about the *extra* half season at the old place. As I'm sure you recall, it was originally hoped that the Schott would be ready for use in the Fall of 1998. Instead, we opened the building in January of 1999 with a 1-0 win over Michigan.

Thanks for the correction, and expanding my walk through memory lane.;)

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

Playoff Hockey Time , :) " EH. "

If we do play in the old rink (Barn ) this might be to our advantage. We will have a sell-out crowd. We will get the feel of a home crowd behind us. :)

I have no idea the conditions of the ice in that rink. If it bad ice , then it will be bad ice for both teams.

I got this game info off the CCHA web-site.

Fri 03/05/10 vs. NOTRE DAME
CCHA First Round TBA

Sat 03/06/10 vs. NOTRE DAME

It wasn't your posts that questioned their integrity.

I'd rather not belabor this, as the thread now seems to be nicely back on track. But at one point the conversation did go over the line, and something needed to be said.

I feel that HckyDoc is right. And I have to inquire what is over the line? That seems to be something you set by your personal judgement? Open forum is for debate and discussion and if profanity and obscenity are absent then an opinion about officiating isn't in the least way out of bounds. If the USCHO moderators don't censor it then it is appropriate and relevant. Now you disagreed which is your right to said opinion and ours is different and by our postings others will form their opinions on the subject. We may not like or agree with what others have to say but this is America and that my friend is the beauty of it! :)

Well it's back to the old barn. Hoping Dusty can play like he did Sat night, and we same the effort from the team. Called the tix office this morning to secure my admission. Going to be a battle against the Irish. Best part about the Ice Rink is that it gets loud easily-hopefully it will be rocking this weekend. Bring your patients pill with the low ceiling, and last year the net seemed to come off its moorings with the slightest touch.
