Alumni support? Criminy, only about 25 students attend games now and they're getting in for free. The only folks who woulda known about Pooley or Smith are the folks who post on this thread.

I don't get you. Your posts make no sense. First you are clearly in favor of just hiring Pooley because he's "a winner". Then you claim to just be upset he didn't get an interview. Now you say you just wanted it to rally alumni support, and are disappointed they didn't hire a "heavy hitter".
What's worse, interviewing guys you clearly don't want or pretending they have a chance and wasting everyone's time.
If you wanted a "winner" I challenge you to find a better resume than O-see-kee's.

They haven't had enough ticket sales the past several years to pay for turning on the lights in the Schott. Now if you were quoting head coach salary you would have been accurate in your placement.
A number of the hockey alumni are upset not because Pooley didn't get hired as much as the fact it was an insult and a half to them that he wasn't even granted the courtesy of an interview. When OSU talks about their great traditions they're talking out of their *ss. Money for a long time now is the only "tradition" they care about and unlike football which gets BIG bucks in donations they simply blow the hockey alumni off since there's no multi-million dollar donors out there for OSU hockey. I've felt the assistant AD who oversees the hockey program has been indifferent to the program for years given all the renewals Markell got seeming to think the program didn't need any oversight. Maybe they're hoping with this new coach he can carry the weight of the whole program and they can look the other way again? Osiecki seems to have good credentials but I wonder how vocal he'll be to his bosses when he finds he gets kicked off home ice during playoffs for a high school event?

I think speed and aggressiveness would be the formula to bump us up to be much more competitive. It certainly worked well for BC this season. There were some games over the years that were embarrassing that our opponents made us look so slow and clumsy out there. You can't score goals when the other team always beats you to the puck.

There's a way to avoid that problem. Finish with a first round bye. OSU hockey has no one but itself to blame for that problem. You seem to be saying that the school should turn down the revenue from the state tourney just in case the hockey team has to play there.

Unfortunately, he'll be used to it. The Wisconsin hockey team's scheduling priority for the Kohl Center is just north of the Tiddley Winks team.

With an overall head coaching record of 185-185-40??? Ten seasons. Five seasons over .500. Five seasons under .500. Only two seasons better than 5 games over .500. 2 NCAA appearances in 10 years. That would seem to fit the definition of mediocrity that the program is trying to escape, where Markell went 280-267-56 and made 6 trips to the tourney.

Scheduling games at the Kohl Center hasn't been an issue for quite a few years now.
OSU, you're getting a good coach in Oz. I'm sad to see him go, but he's more than ready. He'll recruit well and will develop talent.

Pooley did a great job at Providence...it's gone downhill since he left. Comparing what Providence has to work with, with the potential that OSU has - is like comparing Apples and Oranges. I hope Osiecki can pull it out of the gutter.

In Pooley's final three seasons at Providence they went from 19 wins in 02-03 to 16 in 03-04 to 12 in his final season. Their previous coach Mike McShane went 168-153-23 over his nine seasons and also made 2 NCAA trips. They were well on their way down when left. He didn't improve the stock in Providence. To give him an interview simply because he's an alum is patronizing at best.

Home games haven't always been front-loaded, and there's certainly no indication that they are now for any reason other than the natural variability of the schedule.
The practice facility is a different issue.

Another disadvantage the coach will have at OSU is how soon he can work with his team. Ohio State is still on the quarter system while most schools have long since gone over to semesters. It's several weeks later for a quarter school than a semester school that the coach is permitted to lead practice per NCAA rules. Now OSU has had the captains lead "informal" practices but when you are the new guy who has to retrain this bunch and break them of the bad habits of "Johnny hockey" and teach them his system that may not work well.
