Ohio State - It's officially the off-season

Re: Ohio State - It's officially the off-season

OK , let's get this party started. It will be fun to see if the Buckeyes can do some damage this season.
Agreed, it may be a teething season with so many freshmen. Hopefully they will have good team chemistry and take to the staff's teaching quickly.

Re: Ohio State - It's officially the off-season

I hear ya. But I think the Bucks have 2 really good Freshmen coming in that might just jump right into play.

Re: Ohio State - It's officially the off-season

We've had freshmen before who made strong contributions right out of the gate with Kessler probably at the top of the list. The last large group who came in and played with a lot of energy had Fritche, Maiani, Hood, DiSantis and others. The only thing we've usually lacked from the freshies is size & weight so they can take the opponents strong to the boards.

Re: Ohio State - It's officially the off-season

I hear ya. If Cal Heeter can help the Bucks keep the puck out of the net and if we can find some players to step up and put the puck in the net we will have a head start to a good year. " GO BUCKEYES GO. "

Less than three hours to go.....

2PM presser in Cleveland to announce the Jan 15 outdoor game between OSU and that school up north.

Re: Ohio State - It's officially the off-season

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State men's hockey team will take on Michigan in an outdoor hockey game, The Frozen Diamond Faceoff, Jan. 15, 2012 in Cleveland, Ohio, the MLB Cleveland Indians announced Thursday. The game, a Central Collegiate Hockey Association contest slated for a 5:05 p.m. puck drop, will be part of Indians Snow Days at Progressive Field.

"This is a great opportunity for our program and student-athletes," Ohio State second-year head coach Mark Osiecki, said. "I was involved with two outdoor games at Wisconsin and they really are something special for everyone involved. It's such a unique experience to play on an outdoor rink in front of so many fans."

Indians Snow Days gives fans the chance to enjoy ice skating, snow tubing and more at Progressive Field. "Snopening Day" is Nov. 25 and runs through Jan. 16. A full calendar is available at Indians.com/snowdays.

The Frozen Diamond is a new addition to Indians Snow Days, which is now in its second year. It is a regulation-sized ice rink situated on the infield covering homeplate and stretching down the first base line.

"We are excited to be a part of The Frozen Diamond Faceoff," Chris Schneider, Ohio State associate athletics director for sport administration, said. "The event allows us to bring Ohio State hockey to fans in the northern part of the state. We are pleased we can share this experience with one of our university's biggest rivals."

Ohio State first played in an outdoor game Feb. 11, 2006, when it faced off against Wisconsin at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis. Osiecki was an assistant coach for the Badgers in the game, which was played in front of 40,890 fans.

Ohio State fans will have the opportunity to purchase tickets for The Frozen Diamond Faceoff from the university's allotment through special presale opportunities before they become available to the general public. Specifics on the presale will be released in the coming weeks; check OhioStateBuckeyes.com for information.

Ohio State and Michigan will play four games during 2011-12. The teams will meet in Ann Arbor, Mich., Nov. 18-19. The Buckeyes will host the Wolverines in Value City Arena in Columbus Jan. 13 before the teams wrap up the series with The Frozen Diamond Faceoff.

Re: Ohio State - It's officially the off-season

I had heard early on that tickets may be $60.00 & up. Good luck with that but the negotiation on this game took a long time so who knows now what kind of prices they determined. If this game was played after several years of the program being successful under OZ we might get the beginning of a good fan base to Cleveland for it but as it currently stands it will be mostly Michigan fans and the curious attending I think.

Re: Ohio State - It's officially the off-season

I will be there. I think you will be surprised how many hockey fans of all ages will show up for some pond hockey played outside. I hope the day is a crispy cold one and not a freezing rain or snowing. I watched a NHL pro game on tv when it was outside and it was snowing hard. The puck movement sucked. This game will bring back memories of playing outside as a youth. It was so cold one day the referee's had to go in the warming house just to unthaw there whistles. LOL.

Re: Ohio State - It's officially the off-season

Well you know the season's coming - OSU sent out their payment notices for season ticket holders today.

Re: Ohio State - It's officially the off-season

Anyone care to speculate on who the Captains will be this season? Four seniors (Dries, Duddy, Heeter, Schneider) - I venture a guess that the C's will go to Duddy and Schneider and A's to ? Maybe Dries and Gedig?

Re: Ohio State - It's officially the off-season

With Markell I could usually guess it right but don't know Oz well enough to know what his standards of a team leader is and who is currently meeting those expectations. I don't think he will limit his choices to seniors if a junior shows him he stands out above the others.

Re: Ohio State - It's officially the off-season

Got word that the tickets for the Frozen Diamond game will go on sale to season ticket holders in late October with prices ranging from $15.00 to $45.00.

I will apologize in advance for infusing OSU Football into this, but I vividly remember a John Cooper quote regarding freshmen ... "If a dog's gonna bite, it'll bite as a pup." LOL

You can bet I will be on the phone with Ticketmaster come November when these tickets go on sale to the general public. My biggest fear about this game is that we will be outnumbered by Michigan fans at a venue in Cleveland, Ohio (emphasis on OHIO). Still, it will be fun! Cannot wait for this one! Is it hockey season yet?!?

It would be nice if OSU has them at it's ticket office. I'd buy them there and avoid Ticketmasters ridiculous service charges. $20.00 fee to process my season ticket renewal and no one seems to able to explain why OSU made the deal with the devil to outsource to ticketmaster what their own ticket office did on it's own for years!

Yeah, it used to be nice to just order tickets on the OSU website without having to pay the obnoxious fees ticketmaster charges.
