Ohio State Buckeyes 2023-24 The Muzzinator Gonna Muzzinate!!

The Buckeyes flexed their muscles today in 5-0 win over Minnesota-Duluth. Ohio State scored two goals in the first period and that was all they would need as the Bulldogs were unable to solve Buckeye netminder Raygan Kirk in this one. Scoring the Buckeye goals in the first period were Joy Dunne and Kiara Zanon as the teams went into the first break with the Bucks up 2-0. Ohio State continued to attack and got goals from Emma Peschel and Makenna Webster to go into the final intermission with a 4-0 lead. The Buckeyes would tack on one more goal in the third period from Olivia Mobley to make the final score 5-0. The Buckeyes outshot the Bulldogs 44-17 in this one. Raygan Kirk stopped all 17 shots she faced in the win. Minnesota-Duluth goaltender Hailey MacLeod stopped 39 of the 44 shots she faced in the loss. Minnesota-Duluth should make the NCAA Tournament based on the latest PairWise rankings and will wait to see where they are playing. Ohio State will move on and take on Wisconsin in the WCHA Final Faceoff Championship Game tomorrow at 3:00 pm EST. Wisconsin advanced with a 4-3 OT win over Minnesota. Minnesota will make the NCAA Tournament and based on the PairWise rankings, they may be heading to Hamilton, NY, to take on Colgate in the 4 vs. 5 matchup. Don't quote me on that.

Minnesota is the #5 seed, and will travel to the #4. #4 will be the loser of the ECAC championship, Colgate or Clarkson.

Our men's team beat the Badgers tonight in the Big Ten Tournament, how awesome would it be for us to beat both Badger teams tomorrow?

When you are down here in Ohio where there is no girls high school hockey, along with having a subpar facility (putting that mildly), you have to get creative with recruiting (ie. utilize the transfer portal).

The rink and no girls high school hockey are 2 reasons for me that the transfer portal has been worth it, and any mortgage on the future has already been repaid. The rink is symbolic of how neglected girls hockey has been in this whole state, except by a handful of devoted programs. Despite having an NHL team, an AHL team, and women’s hockey at a B1G ten school in State, Ohio’s girl hockey stats are abysmal. Ohio’s girls hockey enrollment as a % of total enrollment in the state ranks 42 out of 52 states/regions.

OSU being successful, let alone winning a national championship, has positively impacted this neglected niche of a niche sport in the state. Not the only driver, COGH and the Blue Jackets getting involved are huge too. But seriously if the Buckeyes temporarily drop to 5th best in the WCHA in the future (pretty conservative to say that would happen) and in return they have 1 or more national championships, some tourney and reg season championships, maybe a new rink, and increased girls hockey participation in the state, it’s fair to say the covid transfer portal era actions paid off.

There's a number of reasons Ohio doesn't have girls high school hockey but the main one is there are only rinks in or near the major metropolitan area which obviously means girls HS hockey could only exist in those areas and of those rinks I don't know if there would be a available ice time to include the girls as things currently stand.

Yea I’m honestly not even talking about girls high school hockey. It’s everything from the ground up. And public rinks have to make room, full stop. Sorry to hijack! Go Buckeyes!

Well Yuckeyeville, that was not the duckies and bunnies ending you were all expecting. Hey though, you've still got a chance in the national tournament so there is that...

Correct. A fantastic experience. Looking forward to seeing how they respond at home next Saturday. No more silver bullets. GO BUCKS!

That looked a little like something that we'd expect from a Wisconsin & Ohio State meeting in the WCHA Tournament 15 years ago. The Badgers played well, no doubt, but from an OSU perspective, it is a little like making a routine visit to the doctor and finding out you had a potentially serious medical condition that is easily treated. Luckily, it didn't surface two weeks from now.

That game was uglier than what I see looking back at me in the mirror!
I thought it really turned south when we didn't get the call for that incident in front of the Badgers net and we got called for tripping on the Badgers following possession. If we had been on the PP instead of Wisconsin maybe we could have turned it around and gained momentum, at least that's how I wish it would have played out.

The question for me is what the team's psyche is coming out of this game. The end of season loss I took to be the kind of snot-cleansing loss that focuses a team. Now, however, to come out against that same team and get pretty well dominated, and I have to wonder if it's a confidence killer, particularly if we meet up with the cheese in the ncaa final. Nadine is going to need to do some of her best coaching after today.

Psyche? Well, I think the WCHA Champions will be just fine. Still the #1 TEAM in the country. If you have been watching the Buckeyes this season they lead the WI Badgers 3 games to 2. They had a few players today not running the Buckeye system. Good to see what happens when you don't run the system against a team like the Badgers. The Badgers will score when you make a mistake. Good wake up call tonight. Dominated ? What were the stats Eddie??? 33 shots on goal by the Buckeyes to 22 for WI. What's been the margin between these two teams all season?

Best coaching after today? I could say the same about MJ after last nights game against a depleted Gopher team that lost 3 of their top players and still almost knocked WI out. How about you show some class and enjoy your win and don't troll your opponent. Or become a D1 coach like Muzerall and live her life and let's see how you do? Wait what do you do for a living ???

Eddie Schorr is 100% a Buckeye fan. He isn't trolling you, and has no "win" to enjoy tonight.

I had the same thought. I know it's had the opposite affect on UW. My worry is getting overconfident.

During one of the breaks, they were going through the 25 players of 25 years WCHA women hockey, etc. and they mentioned Natalie Spooner. And as I always do, I cringed.

Not 15 years ago, but 14, first round WCHA playoffs vs Ohio State out at the 'eagles Nest' in Verona WI. First night Spooner had a hat trick, including the overtime winner. The next night, it was Hokey Langen who had the hat trick, another OT loss for Wisconsin. Back-to-back hat tricks for the Buckeyes, back-to-back OT wins, and UW not even making the WCHA final four.
