Ohio State Buckeyes 2023-24 The Muzzinator Gonna Muzzinate!!

Final Score From Saturday, February 3rd
Ohio State 9
Bemidji State 1
Goal Fest: Held Over For A Second Day By Popular Demand

For Friday's Game, I used a "Starlight Express" format. Motive? I didn't get to see the game in person. Instead, I watched a full replay on the BTN+ stream. So much dynamic scoring! I couldn't resist putting up a truncated version of the 3 Stars.

This won't become a habit. Viewing in person is SO much better. Observing the Stars in person is like using a high power telescope. Stargazing the stream is like using cheap binoculars. But on rare occasions, a replay is the best you can do.

But you know what? I got to see another replay. Live at the Ice Rink, Saturday Afternoon. With the improved view, I got to see the second showing of the Goal Fest. The two games were strikingly similar.

Three Stars Of The Game: Decidedly Unofficial & Just For Fun

Honorable Mention: (tie) Riley Reeves, Bemidji State and Khloe Lund, Bemidji State
Like Friday, the Beavers put up strong resistance in the first period. For Saturday, I'll give a mention to two members of the Beaver 'D' Corps. Riley brought grit and passion to the rink in the rematch. I don't have stats to back it up, but believe that #18's play gave Bemidji a real shot in the arm. Still a Freshman, look for Bemidji to build around Riley in the years ahead.

As for Khloe, her 8 Shot Blocks says it all. Lund deserves more than a Mention. She deserves a Purple Heart.

#3 Star: Jenn Gardiner, Ohio State
With 9 goals scored, we had lots of candidates for the top 3 slots. But I must say that I found Jenn's goal to be both saucy and spectacular. After a fine dash up the left side, Gardiner's between-the-legs shot befuddled the Bemidji Keeper, then found the top shelf. The sizzling shot highlighted Jenn's 3 point night. In addition to the scoring points, Gardiner was +3 for the contest.

#2 Star: Lauren Bernard, Ohio State
Another Buckeye with 1 Goal and 2 Assists. And how do you top a +3 in the plus/minus? With a +5 in the plus/minus! Stalwart on defense and creative on offense, Lauren more than earned the #2 Star.

#1 Star: Jenna Buglioni, Ohio State
How do you top a 3 point night? With a 4 point night! To say nothing of the Hat Trick and GWG. And back at the beginning of game, another Buglioni tip-in play opened the scoring.

On the tip, Riley Brengman launched a shot from the right point to earn the primary assist. The puck rocketed toward the net approximately knee-high. With an authoritative downward chopping motion, Jenna ordered the puck into the lower right hand corner of the net. The puck complied.

BTW, Buglioni joined Bernard & Hadley Hartmetz at +5. This trio led all players in the plus/minus. But with the Hat Trick, Jenna's Star shined the brightest of them all.

Thank you for the shout out, Pgb! One of the great things about home weekends is getting to read your Three Stars Of The Game!

For those who would like to watch this weekend's road games with other OSU Women's Hockey fans, the official watch party location is the O on Lane. It is right across the street from St. John Arena. There is plenty of seating, the food and service are great, and they will have the games on several screens. Come out and enjoy the games with other Buckeye Women's Hockey fans!

The "act like you've been there before" line is interesting to me because I do think there was early animosity against Nadine because people thought she/the Buckeyes were very cocky for a team that hadn't won anything. I feel like the attitude toward her shifted a lot once they won the conference, the FF and then the title.

Appreciate the interesting comment. Of course I believe you're reporting accurately. Based on your role, I'm guessing you have regular access to candid, off-the-record remarks from both players & coaches.

Personally I never got within two light years of being a Division 1 athlete. But I did play for a number of teams along the way. Very cocky for a team that hasn't won anything sounds like something we'd say "in the room," but not publicly.

Act like you've been there before is something that has been a part of Ohio State Football for... well, forever. I always thought this sentiment was widely held across the sports world. But maybe it's something that Buckeyes invoke more often than others? Or maybe it's just a Football thing?

Regardless, I think this is good advice whether you've been there before or not! Just not a fan of trash talking or taunting. Yes, some of today's antics are genuinely fun. I can smile and let others do their thing. But if it gets angry & defensive? The broader audience is better off without it. Again, that's why some things that are perfectly fine to say in the room, should stay in the room.

No doubt. Based on at least the last four seasons, there would be something seriously wrong if Nadine & her players weren't granted some of the respect they've earned.

I do think the conversation is a bit different if the focus shifts to the fan base. The USCHO Women's Hockey Forum is well ahead of most of the internet. Good people trying create a national conversation.

But I also believe that Buckeye fans have been accused of gloating when we "haven't won enough." It feels a little unfair. I'm not really talking about Buckeye Nation as a whole. I'm referring to the small but dedicated group of fans that are all in for Women's Hockey at Ohio State.

It's a long way, to the top, if you want to rock and roll. (insert bagpipe music here) It's also been a long way to the top for Women's Hockey here at OSU. We're a little giddy about the recent successes. We've been a little brash in expressing the hope that the success will continue.

I'm just suggesting these things are pretty understandable, when considered in context.

That's great to hear; thank you!

Hmmm. No promises. But that's interesting. Very interesting.

I don't see all that much gloating around here. Some well justified happiness and pride in what Coach and the program have achieved. but The Lantern isn't printing any "College Hockey's Newest Dynasty" stories.

Robertearle ... wow, you're such a hater. Everything alright at home? Coach Muzerall has 6 National Titles. How many do you have??? Or do you just hate women?

Uhh... Wow!

It is a fact that Hockeybuckeye has used the word "dynasty" while talking about Muzzerall's time at Ohio State. You may not like that fact, but that doesn't change that fact.

I come from the mindset that this is the Buckeye page for Buckeyes supporting OSU womens hockey. So if Hockeybuckeye wants to say "dynasty," then by all means. I read the WI page all the time. It's comical what you all post, but out of respect, I keep my thoughts to myself. For example, when you all posted that WI wouldn't lose a single game this year, how full of yourselves are you guys. How about saying something positive ... that's all I'm saying. We're lucky to have coach Muzerall and your lucky to have Coach MJ. Good luck once he leaves ..... I do like your posts tho as 95% your right on. Looking forward to buying you and TimothyA a beer in Madison if you'll let me.

"when you all posted that WI wouldn't lose a single game this year"

Who said that?

Not me lol. Maybe Patricio said it? It's reasonable for us to think that cuz we are Wisconsin after all (large smiley face) but you know there's a couple other tough teams in the league and it's only happened actually once, right? That other team did at once. It's okay to dream though. Wisconsin does have 7 natties, it's fair to call that a dynasty. Clarkson was building one, but then they kind of petered off. It would be fair to say the Minnesota has a dynasty, though they've been dry lately but you can't discount they're impressive history. Just from understanding the word dynasty, one title does not qualify as that. That's just logical. And I don't believe Robert hates women lol. He's a bigger proponent of women's sports than I am.

I’m laughing because as a message board group we * just * talked about playing nice.

ANYWAY.

I’m making an assumption here, that the iconic (if not dynastic) Buckeyes will host a ncaa quarter final game. Can someone remind me what day of the week that likely will be? Also how nuts is Columbus on St Patrick’s day?

Pittsburgh has a pw game on st patty’s day, just don’t know what that will mean for traffic, and general chaos.

Last year, the 6-through-11 games were on Thursday, and the 'second round' games were all on Saturday.

Correct. If the same Thursday/Saturday format is used, the dates would be March 14th & 16th.

Of course the dates could be tweaked. But there's not a lot of room to maneuver with the Frozen Four set for the following weekend. Friday/Sunday would be a realistic option, but that's about it.

I am assuming that start times won't be announced until the 4 sites are determined.

Well, the actual St. Patrick's Day is Sunday, March 17th. So I would say for the 1st Round Game, St. Patrick's Day is totally irrelevant.

As for Saturday, March 16th, the holiday will take over Suburban Dublin (NW Side) But Dublin is a pretty orderly community, and wouldn't rank very high on the chaos scale. Perhaps it's similar to Mentor? And it's not on your route anyhow.

Downtown Columbus will undoubtedly celebrate; and I presume High Street near campus also will. But honestly, if you access campus from SR315 and use the Lane Avenue Exit, I bet you won't notice any holiday traffic at all.

As always, check to see if there's an event at the Schottenstein Center. Plan accordingly. But that should be it.
