Ohio State finished the sweep today by a final score of 5-1 over St. Lawrence. The Buckeyes opened the scoring with a first-period goal from Joy Dunne to take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. The Saints would get on the board in this contest and tie it on a second period goal from Abby Hustler and the teams went into the second intermission with a 1-1 tie and the game still in doubt. The third period was all Ohio State as the Buckeyes came out firing and scored 4 third-period goals to win it 5-1. The Buckeye goals were scored by Jocelyn Amos, Jenn Gardiner, Makenna Webster, and Jenna Buglioni. The Buckeyes outshot St. Lawrence in this one 41-9. Buckeye netminder Amanda Thiele got the start in this one and stopped 8 of the 9 shots she faced in the win. Emma-Sofie Nordstrom got the start in this one and stopped 36 of the 41 shots she faced for St. Lawrence. The Buckeyes are home again next weekend as they will welcome conference foe St. Cloud for games on 12/1-12/2. St. Lawrence will stay on the road for games against Harvard and Dartmouth.

Lindsay, thank you for always being a great fan on our thread. This is actually a difficult question as all the newcomers have made some great contributions. They have all scored goals or handed out assists, or made some major contributions on the D side. If you were going to corner me with the question of who has impressed me the most, I would have to say Hannah Bilka. She is so fast on the ice and so skilled! Wish we would have had her for all five years instead of just one!
I only watch what’s posted online but YES Amos stands out. Checked the stats and she leads the team in shots.
Consensus that Bilka is another who stands out. Makes sense.
Not to you Buckeye fans of course, but Jen Gardiner seems to fly under the radar (not a newcomer). She quietly leads the team in points.

After Friday's over-indulgence, it seemed almost Petty to want a heaping batch of Thanksgiving leftovers. But of course we did. Still, a determined St. Lawrence team kept us waiting for two full periods. The Saints doubled down on defense and got very good results. Score tied 1-1 after two.
Then the Buckeyes kept us waiting at the 2nd Intermission. And yeah, they let it go a little too far. Delay of Game Penalty.

Katina led that determined defense with 5 Blocked Shots. Purple Heart for Duscio.
Up front, Anna showed us skill & leadership all game long. And the primary assist on the Saints goal went to Segedi.
Ohio State Honorable Mention: (tie) Jenn Gardiner; Hannah Bilka & Cayla Barnes
In sharp contrast to Friday, the game didn't get comfortable until 5:53 of the 3rd Period. The Buckeye Power Play bagged the valuable insurance goal. Hannah & Cayla patiently worked the perimeter, ultimately setting up Jenn with a high quality shot. As per Lindsay, Gardiner quietly blasted it home. Well, it probably didn't feel all that quiet to the St. Lawrence keeper.
#3 Star: Hadley Hartmetz, Ohio State
Steady Hadley turned in another highly competent performance for the Buckeye 'D.' Her +4 for the game blew away all of the competition on both teams. Reminding us again her game is well-rounded, Hartmetz contributed the Primary Assist on the game's final goal.
#2 Star: Abby Hustler, St. Lawrence
Today it was a Saint with the WOW Factor Shot.
The scoring play began with an aggressive breakout pass by the Saints' Goalie Emma-Sofie Nordstrom. Pass received by Anna Segedi, who slickly forwarded it on. At first, the puck appeared to be headed for Aly McLeod. But Aly allowed the puck to go through to Abby. Serving as a decoy may have actually been the only viable option, as the pass was coming from behind McLeod with pace. Hustler finished the play with a truly bodacious top shelf shot.

Again, what's said in the room stays in the room. But whatever it was, it certainly lit a fire under Jocelyn. Just 1:36 later, Amos gained possession in the neutral zone, and charged the Saints' net. Nordstrom made a fine save on the initial shot. No surprise there. Whether from Denmark or The Mall, Nordstrom stands for quality.
But Jocelyn wasn't done. She corralled the rebound and slammed it home for the GWG. Oh, and did you notice this all happened on the PK? Special teams turned out to be pretty important in this one.

Not hearing anything official yet. I was told several months ago the AD was still waffling on the size. Our former president at OSU told me recently the funding was secured before she left but I don't know if there is a minimum or maximum amount to play with.
I've heard rumors the arena capacity could be as small as 1800 which would be a travesty or as large as 3000.
As Hockeybuckeye said, they are waffling on the size. I think the coaches want something nice, but they don't want to lose the intimacy that we have now in the OSU Ice Rink. My magic number is 3,000. Have some foresight and do it right because it's always harder and costs more to expand later. If they make it 3,000, they could host the WCHA Final FaceOff, the NCAA Women's Frozen Four, and maybe even the IIHF Women's Worlds. I have also heard 2,200, similar to LaBahn. So, basically, who knows? Cannot wait for it to come to fruition. Just hope they do it right. Have some foresight like the powers that be did who decided on the size of Ohio Stadium. I can't imagine where we would be with that if someone would have been like, "Nah, we don't need that many seats. Let's build a 35,000 seat stadium for our football program." Thank God they did the right thing. Now we have a college football cathedral that seats 100K because some people had the foresight to do it right back in 1922. Just hoping for the same type of foresight for our Women's Hockey Program. Just my opinion, but to me, if it's not 3,000, they're shortchanging our program. I had always heard LaBahn was supposed to go all the way around, but they ran out of money and could not do the open end. I don't believe there is any truth to that, but I had heard it. You would know better than us down here. I always enjoyed the trips to LaBahn. The people are pretty nice up there. Women's Hockey fans in general are usually pretty reasonable. We might get a little ornery or testy here on the board, but you go to games and meet people in person, you find out we are all just fans who love the women's game and love supporting their girls, but I digress. Next up, I need to recap tonight's game against the Huskies and the surprising result, or maybe not so surprising. Stay tuned.

The current rink in the OSU Ice Rink is 200x85. It used to be smaller than that, but was brought up to NHL standard in a 1999 renovation.

On that subject I have no idea and haven't even heard rumors.
St. Cloud did something earlier tonight that no one had done in the last 16 home games ... they defeated Ohio State at the OSU Ice Rink. The final score was 2-1. The Buckeyes had a 16-game home win streak before tonight. I have been telling people these St. Cloud goaltenders are good enough to steal a game. Unfortunately, tonight's St. Cloud goaltender made me look like a prophet against my team. Spoiler alert, think she just might get Pgb's 1st star of the game. We will see. I will have more on her later. The Buckeyes actually opened the scoring in this one and led 1-0 at the first intermission on a Makenna Webster goal. That would be it for Ohio State as St. Cloud would hold the Bucks scoreless for the rest of the evening. St. Cloud would get two power play goals in the second period from CC Bowlby and Greta Henderson to take a 2-1 lead into the final intermission. St. Cloud goaltender Sanni Ahola was nothing short of spectacular in net, stopping 46 of the 47 shots she faced in the win for the Huskies. Ohio State did have a number of great scoring chances and some power plays of their own, but could not solve Ahola on this night. Raygan Kirk got the start in net for the Buckeyes and stopped 15 of the 17 shots she faced in the loss. For the second week in a row, Coach Muzerall was not on the bench for the Buckeyes. That is not an excuse, nor is it meant to take away from what the Huskies accomplished tonight. Coach has missed the last three games, and I am guessing she will miss tomorrow's game, too. Certainly hope she is well soon as the team appeared to be missing her leadership in this one. The teams will wrap up this series tomorrow at 3:00 pm EST.
I am guessing it is going to be regulation size (200 x 85), but not 100% sure.

It won't be bigger. The existence of larger rinks is leftover from the days when the NCAA rulebook said that 200x100 was the preferred size. It remained that way for a lot longer than the powers that be realized. There were several 200x100 rinks built from the late 80s to mid 90s, including the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St Cloud and Whittemore in Durham. There were complaints about it, which is when a friend of mine contacted the NCAA and pointed them to their own manual and its declaration about the preferred size. The manual was changed very quickly thereafter, and I'm pretty sure that there hasn't been a new Olympic sized rink built for NCAA hockey since, and other than LaBahn, nothing larger than 85x200.

Ohio State displayed a lot of offensive skill, dominating the SOG stat. But to grab the win, SCSU narrowly outplayed OSU in several important categories. Tenacious Defense, particularly in the slot? Yes. Opportunistic Offense? Definitely Yes, as noted above. Goaltending? A Formidable Wall, dented only once.
In the end, it proved to be enough. All of the Ohio State shots and face-off wins couldn't overcome St. Cloud's winning formula.
