Ohio State Buckeyes 2022-2023 ... The Drive For Duluth

No, it's that if anyone implies that Muzerall broke any rules is BS and being trolls. Little tolerance for trolls.

The trolls are like stray cats. If you feed them, they will keep coming back. If you don't feed them, they will go somewhere else to get fed. You and I need to stop feeding the trolls. And yeah, totally agree with you that Nadine is not breaking rules. She has worked too hard to build our program into a National Championship contender to tear it down by violating rules. The trolls can't stand the fact that kids actually want to come to Ohio State instead of their schools.

And if you don't think "genius" is the right word what word would you use

The word is “betrayal” as in what she’s doing to the underclassmen she’d already recruited. A player would be a fool to think she can join OSU as a freshman and expect any loyalty at all from Muzz in the long run. Players and the parents advising them aren’t stupid and Muzz’s transfer portal tactics will benefit other schools as at least some players see the writing on the wall at OSU and commit somewhere else.

Pretty bold and unfounded comment. Can you name a player she "betrayed"? You forget once an NLI is signed and submitted it's a binding contract that can't be broken unless both coach and player agree. No signed player has been told no thanks! Prove what you say or don't say it.

I will answer your question with a question. Would you be comfortable sending your daughter to play at Ohio State knowing Muzz’s commitment to liberally using the transfer portal reduces the odds of your daughter getting to where she wants to be in the program? I would not.

As I have said before, players expect to compete and earn playing time against their peers and underclassmen brought in after them. They don’t join a program expecting to compete with superstars brought in via the transfer portal. That’s got to be at least somewhat demoralizing for a kid who’s busted her butt for, say, 2 or 3 years thinking she’s finally earned a top spot only to have some stud senior jump on the team via the portal and take her spot away.

Hey, if your Jocelyn Amos, Jordan Baxter, Joy Dunne, and Delaney Flemming, you are more than happy to be called upon to play a role, whether that's playing lower line minutes or even occassionaly sitting one out for the priviedge of being on the Muzzinator's team. All (most likey less) for one and one for all.

"The Muzzinator gonna muzzinate"

First of all no prospect has a right to go to the program they want to play for, the coach has to offer them. If a coach offers to a prospect by the rules a coach can withdraw the offer before a NLI is signed. There's a big difference between a verbal commitment and a signed commitment! That's how it's always been.
My daughter was a D1 athlete and had to get on the watch list of numerous programs and not all she wanted to play for offered her, though many did. By your strange logic you say by using the transfer portal Muzerall is somehow disenfranchising girls who could come here? Ever coach uses the portal so are they all guilty? We lost 12 players and it's a coaches JOB to reload by whatever means withing the rules to give their program the best chance of success.
Those potential freshmen, if they were at the skill level to play at a top tier program would be recruited but many are not. If they're "denied" there's a reason. Our incoming freshmen were some of the most sought recruits in the USA and Canada. If you want to play for Ohio State that's the level you need to be at!
If a girl wants a chance to play in college there's plenty of spots open in the schools whose players bailed into the portal, right?
Go troll Frost or Johnson for using the portal blocking girls who want to go there. LOL! I think you're just upset because the Muzzinator is the most successful coach utilizing the portal taking those you were hopeful for your team. (Wink)

There is really not much to troll...

Did any Bemidji supporter have "hope" that any of the top transfers were going to land there?

I must not have conveyed my thoughts clearly. I’m not talking about transfers impacting recruits. I’m talking about players already on the team. My daughter also played D1 hockey and I promise you, if she’d busted her butt to earn a top-2-lines spot by her Jr or Sr season only to have a superstar, 5th-year player come in and take the spot she feels she earned, she’d be pissed - as I think any competitive player in that situation would be. Yes, this may happen on any team who might take 1 or 2 transfers a season but Muzz flat out says it’s how she plans on keeping OSU on top so it seems it’s much more likely to happen at OSU than on the other top teams. This is why I think Muzz’s liberal use of the portal could cause some recruits to decline her offers.

Re Muzz in general, I believe I’ve said before I think she’s quite possibly the best women’s hockey coach in the country. No one can argue with what she’s done with the OSU program. I’ve just never been a fan of her style which comes off to me as smug and arrogant based on her postgame comments and what I know she’s said on at least one occasion to opposing players. She’s a lot like Jim Harbaugh of MI football and Kim Mulkey of LSU women’s bball. Gotta respect their accomplishments but not necessarily everything about how they achieved them.

Show me where after the season is over there's a rules violation if the player initiated the contact? Are you really in the dark that many players going into the portal don't have it pre-arranged with their new team?
And if you don't think "genius" is the right word what word would you use or would you be in trouble with the forum moderators or have the guts to go there?
For those unhappy with the stellar success of our coach's recruiting just wait until after next season when YOUR top talent announce they're now Buckeyes! LOL!!

It does seem to me that the higher level players entering the portal have to have a very good idea of where they’re going before they put their name in. I am NOT accusing any coaches of any violations but would, say, Zanon really enter the portal without some assurances a better team or at least a specific team would take her? I mean, once a player enters the portal, it feels like they’ve reached the point of no return with their current team so, at least with high-end players, they better already have somewhere better to land.

Again, not accusing, anybody of anything, and this absolutely applies to talented players who’ve left Ohio State as well.

The loophole as Lindsay already pointed out is when the players talk to each other.

Yep, but think of how big that loophole must be. Those players would have to at least believe they are speaking on behalf of the coach to give the potential transfer the assurance that entering the portal would work out as the transfer athlete wants it to. A little surprising the NCAA doesn’t tighten that up. It’s one thing to say, hey, come to our school we have a great team, great coach, great program. It’s another to say, come to our team; I can assure you our coach will offer when you get in the portal.
