The problem is booking flights, when you don't know where the teams are originating from. It would likely work out fairly well as several teams would fly out of MSP, but you don't know who is coming until the quarters are complete.

My guess is that they would schedule one in Columbus to be consistent after having a tourney in Bemidji and two in Grand Forks. Worst case scenario would be the Buckeyes getting knocked off in the quarters, as they sometimes were before Muzzy changed the fortunes of the program. That's what it was like in Bemidji, but at least UND reached the final that year. There isn't a second WCHA program anywhere close to Columbus, so that's partly why it isn't an attractive destination for a conference tournament on a frequent basis.

I think it was robertearle who cautioned a while back that when your program is going poorly, it feels like you'll never win again, and when you're winning, you think it'll never stop. Looking at the recruiting classes in Madison, be prepared for the Badgers starting a run where we fight over being the first runner up. Unless you mean that will be true just because your team has a "The" in front of its name. In that case, okay, but I've never thought the Buckeyes were the big dog in Big Ten Volleyball, to name another women's sport.

Mostly, it's a baseball mid-season winning streak/losing streak thing, but it applies here as well: when you're winning, it feels like you're never gonna lose again... but you do.

Are you sure you're not a Miami of Ohio fan? Having followed Ohio State hockey since the Pooley Brothers, I never take anything for granted because I've seen this program (talking about the men mainly) seemingly on the brink of greatness several times only to slide back into mediocrity or worse. That being said, I do think a BTWHC is inevitable. How we'll do in it though is an open question. Hold onto the Muzzinator and build that woman the arena she deserves, and I'm cautiously optimistic.

Or we could give Minnesota and Wisconsin their marching orders and form of a conference of teams that are capable of paying their own way.

The powers that be at Minnesota are very well aware of who's driving that billion dollar Brinks truck that FOX, CBS and NBC are sending. Just like with the men, they'll huff and puff and make a public display for the state's politicians and then do exactly as they're told.

For the conference tourney, I think that the league pays the teams' travel expenses.

We'd need the Michigan schools to form women's teams. Given the financial windfall that's about to hit the B1G AD's and the fact that they already have hockey specific arenas, it's conceivable. Other than that, I don't think the non-hockey schools would really care one way or the other.

Michigan State could have easily started a women's program but didn't want to spend the money. They could have housed them in Demonstration Hall, the men's old arena but they've since put a floor in it and gave it to their band to use. They also did a major renovation to Munn Arena but made no provision to house a women's team. They're pathetic!
Michigan will never have a women's team unless they build them their own arena, Yost is unsuitable to accommodate two teams.
Illinois has been in partnership with the NHL on the possibility of starting a men's program but I don't know if talks included a women's program. That came to a halt with the pandemic and I don't know if the discussions resumed yet.

The impending bankruptcy of the company that owns the Bally Sports regional sports channels is the harbinger of rights fees collapsing. Disney is at least thinking about selling off ESPN.

If ADs make decisions based on an assumption that the money train will just keep running forever, they're being reckless.
 
Ohio State has lost five games this entire season. Give the Minnesota Gophers a ton of credit for giving us three of those losses, including a 3-1 loss earlier today in the WCHA Final Faceoff Title Game. Minnesota got on the board first on a goal from Savannah Norcross late in the first period and the teams went into the first intermission with the Gophers leading 1-0. Minnesota's Abbey Murphy would get a goal in the second period to put the Gophers up 2-0. Ohio State answered later in the period to pull to within a goal at 2-1, but that was as close as the Bucks would get in this one. Peyton Hemp answered for Minnesota and the teams went into the final intermission with the Gophers up 3-1. Neither team found the back of the net in the third period and that is how this one ended. Congratulations to the Gophers and their fans on winning the WCHA Final Faceoff Tournament. Minnesota outshot Ohio State in this one 39-35. Gopher goaltender Skylar Vetter stopped 34 of the 35 shots she faced in the win. Buckeye backstop Amanda Thiele saved 36 of the 39 shots she faced in the loss. Both teams will find out who they play next weekend when the NCAA Selection Show airs tomorrow at noon EST. Based on the rankings, both will be hosting NCAA Regionals next weekend.

There is no sign that college football money will dry up, hence the massive B1G deal. Hell, even the B12 negotiated a bigger deal despite losing Texas and Oklahoma and backfilling with a bunch of no-name G5's. The problem with ESPN is 90% of its content not paying for itself, not college football and basketball. Those sports will still continue to generate huge revenue for the right schools.

You can't compare the B1G's football driven deal with legacy linear networks with a regional streaming outfit that I didn't even know existed until I discovered that I couldn't watch the Buckeyes at Wisconsin.
