Ohio State 24-25 Are We Back Yet?

Rumor is that you guys are going to end your blackballing of Miami of Ohio and start playing them again. True?

True. Background: Bergeron (well, looks like Barry Schutte) went around portal rules and talked a BG player into heading to Oxford. Eigner was livid and cancelled the series in perpetuity. The LOL is the player in question played exactly 7 games in Oxford before saying "F it!" and turned pro. So Miami State screwed up their relationship with BG over 7 measly games - and they still finished last in the Nachos. Now that both coaches are gone, the two new coaches have appeared to bury the hatchet. Willy has stated publicly that this series needs to happen and since it was the BG side that cancelled future games, it looks like all systems are go. Expect to see BG/Miami State starting either next year or the year after.

I could never get a straight answer from anyone at OSU why we don't play Miami anymore, was it their call or ours?
We had a pretty intense rivalry going and just when we peaked and they tanked and we could start beating them regularly no more games. The funny part is I haven't seen a Miami fan or thread on forum for years! :p

Like BG, the Miami State crew has their own space www.miamihawktalk.fans. I know there are a couple of Miami State lurkers on this site but I rarely see them post anything.

It was a good win for the Buckeyes tonight. After two early goals BG firmed up and got tougher. As the gane progressed so did a dislike for each other. We were fortunate a BG goal was overturned for the net being off and held on with goalie pulled with nearly two & a half minutes left.
It should be an intense one at BG tomorrow. Wish I could be there but I'm committed to our womens tournament Saturday.

It was our call. They'd kill for a weekend series like we give BG. Since the "dynasty" ended, they've been averaging about 2K fans a game. Ohio State on the schedule would easily be the biggest draw of the year for them. To the larger question, short answer is that Rico loved to run the score up on us in the last couple of CCHA years, which clearly didn't sit well. Long answer it that there is a ton of bad blood between Ohio State and Of Ohio going back to the 60s that has nothing to do with sports or hockey. Don't look for Ohio State to ever do Of Ohio any favors. There's a reason that they weren't included in the university consortium and partnership with Intel that Ohio State heads up.

I'm not sure what happened those first two periods, but we played poorly and you can't do that against #19 and expect to win. Felt better after the third and was glad we only lost by 2 after getting clobbered at Western. Feels like we at least have a punchers chance tonight at the Slate. BTW, it's the home opener with the opening of the new luxury suites in the south end, and we will have just finished kicking Turdledo's arse at the Gas Bowl. The place will be rocking.

The BG nation is forever thankful the Buckeyes helped keep our program afloat during the dark times. OSU made a commitment to keep playing us home-and-home when the whole B1G/Nacho thing blew up the oCCHA. Contrast that with TTUN who graciously offers us 2-for-1 even though we're a measly 70 miles apart.

Ohio State gets the sweep in their home & away series against Bowling Green. Is it enough to climb a bit in the rankings? We shall see.

I would have bought tickets for the game at BG but I was committed to the women's tournament Saturday.
Good luck to the Falcons as well the rest of the season.

Same good wishes to BG.

I also try travel to Bowling Green when the Falcons host us. And I usually try to do more posting during BG Week. But as HockeyBuckeye said, those of us who support both Ohio State Hockey teams were put in a real bind this weekend by the IceBreaker Tournament.

This team just finds ways to win close games. I have seen the last 4 games. They arent the fastest, biggest, strongest team ever but they work hard and do the little things it takes to win. I thought Wisconsin outplayed them for much of the 120 minutes two weeks ago but timely goals and goaltending won both games. The BG series was probably the most physical series these two have played in a while. Ohio State has had a 2-0 lead in each of the last 3 games. We will find out how much improved they are when the go to East Lansing in two weeks.

I dont care to ever play that school again. I think its funny they are the bottom of that league they have no business playing in.

Yeah. I might feel differently if we could take back the all time series lead, but after they gained it in 2009, they ran it up pretty good. I think they're up about 10 or 11 games all time. Not worth doing them a long term favor for us to try and get it back. I'll just have to settle for watching them being the NCHC's punching bag.

Yea they definitely owned the series the last 5 years or so in the ccha years.

I looked it up, and it's worse than I thought. They pushed it out to a 15 game lead.

Watch for things to get real feisty if (when) Wright State is turned into a research focused branch of Ohio State. Of Ohio is currently scrambling to build any type of reputation in STEM fields, so they'll certainly go to the mattresses to wet their beak in any kind of absorption of WSU. But like with Intel, they bring absolutely nothing to the table. They don't have the faculty, research labs or doctoral students for high end research collaborations with Wright-Patterson.

The funniest thing I ever saw in our rivalry with Miami is after Miami blew their National Championship in the last minute of that game the following season it was our first game of the series against them in the Schott. During warm ups two Ohio State students were wearing Boston University jerseys behind Miami's net and were rubbing their chests against the glass taunting them and their players did NOT look happy! LOL!!

That was very disrespectful towards "College Hockey's Newest Dynasty."

Tonight we went up against an opponent from the CCHA days, Lake Superior State
We started off fast scoring three in the first five & a half minutes. We went scoreless in the second and by early in the third the Lakers came withing one making it 4-3.
Ohio State suddenly came to life and went on a scoring spree with a final of 9-3. We play at Michigan State next weekend, should Sparty be concerned? I'm seeing more and more cohesiveness from this team every weekend.

On a side note Applebee started in net for the Lakers but was pulled and Riley went in net but he seemed to get twerked and did not return so Applebee went back in and had a scary moment when his headgear came off and seemed shaken. They didn't have a number three on the bench. Hopefully they're both good to go Saturday.
