Ohio State 2015-2016 Season

Re: Ohio State 2015-2016 Season

I learned a long time ago not to be cocky on forum, it would usually come back to bite you in the a**.
It could be either teams game.

I've been watching College Hockey for 30+ years. If OSU loses to this MSU Program, they should be ashamed of themselves. Yes, four close games this season. But, this is, by far, the worst MSU team since Amo was coach. Granted anything can happen. But I, and many others on Campus want more nails to put into the coffin of tCHHCoMSU. He must be replaced.

We feel your pain. I've been watching OSU for 50+ years and many here felt the same way about wanting to move on from Markel because of lack of consistency.
Two coaches later we're still waiting but losing only 3 seniors at the end of this season could see us turn that corner next fall.

Next year better be a tournament team or we could be looking for another coach in 17-18

Re: Ohio State 2015-2016 Season

Congratulations to Josh Healey on being first team all B1G. Same to Nick Schilkey on his second team selection. Now - can both of you please come back for your senior years?

And congratulations to Mason Jobst on first team all freshman team and Christian Frey on his honorable mention

I understand your thoughts and certainly respect your opinions on here, but our program and us fans are hardly in a position to be overconfident facing anyone. There have only been two or three occasions this season where we have actually won two games in a row.

I agree with this assessment. Four seasons is more than enough time for Rohlik to get the program moving forward and he has not done that yet. Next season, all these freshmen will be sophomores, so the young team excuse won't fly. If this program isn't in the big dance next season, it will definitely be time to go in a different direction.

I don't know if I would look at the timeframe that way. Even though Rohlik may have had a hand in recruiting under Osiecki when the sudden coaching change happened it disrupted the recruiting and it takes a year or two to completely re-establish it.
I think the athletic department would give more time based on that factor.

Heck I'd just take a .500 season.

Re: Ohio State 2015-2016 Season

Even though the athletic department seems to in recent years shown more interest in getting our program to a higher level I still don't think outside of King football & basketball they feel any sense of urgency.
It's still that way for the minor sports. They had several years ago when they got rid of the softball coach (who was hired when Markel was) the friggin Olympic coach for Team USA expressed interest in the job he COULDN'T GET AN INTERVIEW! A guy who could have brought in 5 star recruits and they went with the coach from a MAC school and the softball team still stinks!
So don't be surprised if they don't do yet what you think they should with hockey coaches.

Thats why this program will never get a big name guy to coach here.

We can agree to disagree on this. Penn State has only been a varsity program for three seasons. In those three seasons, their coach has managed to put a winning program on the ice and have already passed us up. At what point should we actually expect Steve Rohlik to put a winning hockey program on the ice?

Re: Ohio State 2015-2016 Season

Trust me on this one. They are going to give him 2 years to recruit under his own banner and then 4 years after that for his 2nd year's recruiting efforts to become seniors.

Well, hopefully, he starts to win and brings in talented recruits. Otherwise, the athletic department is going to look like they don't give a crap about our men's hockey program, and continue to **** off/alienate OSU Hockey fans. I think most of us are fed up with the habitual losing.

Re: Ohio State 2015-2016 Season

I see we still can't hold a lead or play disciplined hockey. Three unanswered power-play goals in the second period for Michigan State. What a pathetic, disgusting period of hockey by Ohio State. We tied it up in the third, then pulled it out in OT, but that doesn't excuse the continued undisciplined hockey and inability to hold leads that this program has become known for.

Ya I'm happy to take the win, and I'm all for exciting close games, but this inconsistency game to game and period to period is driving me nuts. Nice to see Jobst get the game winner though. He's really been one of the bright spots for us this year. Not just has he scored, but he's fast and exciting while he's doing it.

So we've played four close ones with them and lost all four. Any chance we pull it out vs. the Gophers tomorrow?

Re: Ohio State 2015-2016 Season

That was a pretty good hockey game. This team doesnt lay down now they dug the hole for themselves by taking really stupid penalties dont be surprised if Sasha doesnt get suspended for tomorrow's game that hit from behind was brutal. 5 on 5 Michigan state had no answer for the Buckeyes it wasnt even close. On to the Gophers lets hope for a repeat from 2 years ago. Step one was the same beating Michigan State in overtime on to step 2.

Re: Ohio State 2015-2016 Season

When it wasn't Sparty on the PP I think we showed ourselves the better team. We attacked the puck and our passing and ability to move it were impressive along with a discipline and rhythm for the most part in cycling and working it for the shot in their end.
And hey, WE scored near the end of a period for a change and not the other team!

Re: Ohio State 2015-2016 Season

I hope the guys are real tired.

I am sure there will be a little fatigue, not to mention we will be down a d-man after the stupid hit from behind. This is what happens when you don't put a winning hockey program on the ice and finish 3rd or lower in the BIG Ten ... you have to play three games in a row to win it. Having said that, I think we have a shot at pulling it off tonight, having played the Gophers to three OT games and a 1-goal game.
