Re: Ohio State 2013/2014 - Third year in Oz

Sweet news for those not able to go to the Joe. OSU announced that Fox Sports Ohio is picking up the broadcast of our Saturday game!
Just don't go to your favorite sports bar and expect them to put college hockey on one of their TV's for you during March Madness, probably won't happen. lol!

Re: Ohio State 2013/2014 - Third year in Oz

Going to the big show at the Joe arena will put Ohio State Hockey on the map of good things to come in the future. I just hope as a young team making it to the Tounament , they don't get to caught up in all the media crap. Or get deer in the headlights and just focus on there style of winning. Eh. Go Buckeyes Go.

weather forecast looks crappy for driving home Sunday evening so I extended my stay in Detroit for an extra night. Now I need an OSU victory on Sunday to make it even better.

It's tournament time , BABY. Win or go home. So let's drop the puck & gloves and get it done BUCKEYES. :)

Re: Ohio State 2013/2014 - Third year in Oz

Off to Detroit around 9AM. Time to make the last name match the first name on the Cup! Go Bucks!

Re: Ohio State 2013/2014 - Third year in Oz

Bucks lose 3-1.

The JOE arena was unkind to the Head Coach OZ & team this trip. No CCHA Coach of the year award for Coach OZ & no CCHA player awards given out to the young Bucks.

Time to get the golf clubs out & dust them off if the snow will ever melt this Spring!!!! Eh. I will be back next year to root the Bucks on.

It will be fun to see how it goes for the GREAT AND POWERFULL OZ in his 4th year as the team will be all his own recruits , and he will have to carry this team on his shoulders.

I expect a lot better things next year - I think things are trending in the right direction, that being said, no matter how many times this is said, it still remains not true. :)

The entire senior class next year, and some of the juniors, are guys that Markell recruited and signed before Markell got let go, or were verbals to Markell that Oz honored.

THANKS for the info. I thought this year Seniors were the last of the Coach Markell. So atleast one more year of not Coach OZ full recruits. If the good Goalie situation keeps going good for the Bucks that sure will help them in the next few years.

Re: Ohio State 2013/2014 - Third year in Oz

Season comes to an end today and with that the end of an era. I thought ND had a great game plan clogging up the neutral zone and taking away the stretch passes. Ohio state never really adjusted to it and could not generate any kind of rush. With that came almost no sustained pressure in the offensive zone. Give the Irish alot of credit they had a plan and never changed.

When this season started all i wanted was improvement from start to finish along with a Top 5 finish in the League. I am happy with getting here to detroit. Next year will be a different playing in the Big Ten. Along with that will be expectations of making the next step getting into the Ncaa tournament. It was fun chatting with all of you this year have a great summer. See Everyone next year!

Regardless of whose recruiting classes they are, they're Oz's players now, and it's his job to produce. I'm in agreement with THE OHIO STATE, it's his fourth season, time to put a winning hockey team on the ice.

I agree on next year, it needs to be an NCAA season, no excuses.

You need to consider one other thing before making a blanket statement about them being Oz's players. There is a difference in how Oz and Markell coach and the type of players they recruit. Oz is taking some leftover square pegs and asking them to play on a board with round holes. It might not show up on the first two lines but it certainly shows up in the depth if there are injuries, and OSU had plenty of those this season. If the bottom three forwards and the two bottom d-men are different from the others they are somewhat handicapped in what they can contribute when they have to fill in.

I'm not so concerned about next year's group of seniors because they have now have had three years to learn, but there were a couple of this year's group who sometimes left more than a little to be desired in their game management and a few other things.

With the weather forecast being what it was I drove home after the second period of the Miami/Michigan game instead of staying over until this morning - or tomorrow morning. Would have stayed to watch Miami today but was not risking it to watch Michigan and Notre Dame.

Re: Ohio State 2013/2014 - Third year in Oz

Great effort by the boys to get to the Joe. Ferris series was an epic series of experience and an older team being defeated by a younger group who seem to be coming of age before our eyes. Notre Dame seemed to be older and more experienced but even in the third I never thought we were completely out of it. Brady was excellant and one bounce could have tied it up. Lets keep our fingers cross we dont lose anyone early as the lineup is there for a big year. Lots of variables including injuries, but I want to look at the positives.
1) First year in the Big Ten awesome.
2) Colin Olson showed he can play this year nice to have a goalie like him with his size and ability waiting in the wind. Tompkins the new recruit has very impressive stats in the AJHL.
3) Defenseman, the only guys we lose are Krough and Martel. Krough played well in the playoffs and is a good teammate but with the return of DaSilva, Dalrymple, Gedig, Jardine, McLean, and Christofoli the team looks to be solid on the blue line with a ton of special team experience. We have 3 guys coming in maybe 4 one from each of the USHL, AJHL, and NAHL. And a recruit from Germany.
4) Forwards same story our special team guys should all be back, Dzingle, McCormick, Fritz, Szczechura, Angeli, Oddo, add to this list Crane, Lundey, Grecco, Simpson, Johnson, Lippencott, Niddery, this makes no room for the likes of Stepan, Schlickey, and Gust who have all put good totals up in their respective leagues Stepan had 66 points in the USHL, Schlickey, and Gust I believe close to 50 a piece.
Please post any information about next years schedule with the start of the Big Ten and a roster like this, the pieces are in place to have a very exciting season next year. Go Bucks.

Re: Ohio State 2013/2014 - Third year in Oz

Huge step in the right direction for you guys. Really wanted a Michigan-ohio CCHA Final.

Next year may not be pretty for teams in the B1G. I see Michigan and minnesota being the top 2 for years to come. Next year you'll see a ****ed off team of great players, plus arguably the best class coming in my lifetime.

You know they're good when 3 US NTDP kids are coming in, who came into Yost and scored 3 goals en route to beating their future team.

Point taken. In your opinion, how long should we expect to wait before Oz starts putting winning/NCAA teams on the ice? We took a good step this season finishing 4th in the league and getting to the Joe. Is it wrong to expect the program to take another step (or two) forward next season?

Do you anticipate all your NHL draftees staying put, then? Just wondering, with all the talent on that team.

Troubz said he is going to play 2 years in college. That's his plan, that's his families plan since day 1. He'll be a definite Hobey contender next year.

He and Trey Burke just need to have a conversation with Taylor Lewan, and they will stay ;)

I was at the awards and Brady won the Perani Cup, Best Goaltender, All Conference First Team, and was one of the 3 finalists for Player of the Year. He had a good night!
