And because once the stadium is built, it's pretty much useless for anything else without substantial modification.

America goes 1-2 in the Men's 100 back with Matthew Grevers taking gold and Nick Thoman taking silver. It was great to see Thoman's reaction after the race...

Grevers set an Olympic record as well

Ah, a confluence of two of my favorite things – North Koreans and weight lifters. I can’t help looking at the weight lifters and thinking steeerrrroooiiiids and I love the robotic North Korean homages to their beloved rulers.

A North Korean did a clean-and-jerk (love that term) with over three times his weight.

'How can any man possibly lift 168 kilograms?’ Om was quoted as saying by the internal Olympic News Service. 'I believe the great Kim Jong Il looked over me.'

That’s the same Kim Jong Il who routinely hit three or four holes-in-one per round of golf.

The phrase she's having trouble with the jerk makes me giggle like a schoolgirl.

Did he come anywhere close to the women's skeet shooting Gold Medalist? That was one of the most impressive exhibitions of skill I've ever seen.

I didn't watch the event, was just browsing through wikipedia.

Apparently, the men shoot at 5 sets of 25 targets for qualifying then 25 more for the finals. Hancock missed 2 shots total (1 in the 2nd round, 1 in the 4th). The women shoot at 3 sets and then the final. Rhode (the women's Gold Medalist) missed 1 shot in her third set.

Good day for the two marquee women's teams. Soccer wins 1-0. Not sure of all the tie breakers, but looks to me like the worst they could possibly do is the second overall seed.
