20' is Holy Grail territory for any vaulter... If someone has a chance to hit it in competition, you stand behind them... I guarantee that each of those guys has spent more than just a few jumps with a bungee at 20' 2" hoping that someday they can get 3 attempts at it in a real competition....

He's a member of the Russian parliament now.

I remember that he didn't even have a point scored on him for like 5-6 years! I was truly shocked that Gardner pulled it off.

And his victory cartwheel was epic. I think they picked that thing up on the Cal Tech seismograph.

How about that, Mexico beats Brazil 2-1 for the gold medal.

I didn't see much, but Brazil was carrying most of the play, and generating more opportunities, but Mexico's defense and goalie held tight. And they jumped on the few times they got great plays in the Brazilian penalty area.

Mexico really shocked Brazil with their goal 30 seconds into the game... It came off a very stupid turnover by the Brazillian defense and I think that just knocked Brazil back on their heels... They seemed to spend most of the 1st half in recovery mode...

Love that race walking! The leader in the women's 20K is "walking" at at 6.8 minutes/mile pace. Lot of people can't run that fast, certainly for 20K.

I would be lucky to survive 400m at that pace. I've been close to 7m during workouts- but that was brutal. To "walk" that is something.

(OTOH, I'm not so warm on a sport where so much judging needs to happen to make sure they are walking. by the rule, neither leader were walking when they were showing slow motion views- EVERY step they had both feet off the ground.)

Sweet, dominating womens 4x100 relay. No world record, but there was no question about how it would go after the opening leg.

And Felix gets her 3rd gold medal. Awesome. She did well in the 100m, won the 200m, was part of the winning 4x100, and then part of the 4x400. That's amazing.

US Men run a great 4x100 relay for a change. No dropped baton, good passing and lightning speed to tie the world record. Unfortunately, Jamaica broke the world record by 0.2 secs and gets gold. This was without doubt the best I have seen a US men's relay team look in this event. Jamaica just has a step or two more. Great race!

Absolutely a great race. Can't ask any more of the American team to break a record, yet they got beat by a better team- just an amazing job by the Jamaican team.

Too bad for Canada- who finished 3rd, but got DQ'd for passing the baton outside of the box.

Never thought i would say this again in my lifetime-US takes gold in the men's 10 meter platform over the Chinese. And it took the last dive to do it. One judge (Judge 5) made the difference by awarding the US diver a 9.5 and the Chinese diver a 9.0. That turned out to be the crucial difference. Great job by David boudia and a big upset surprise.

Holy cow, David Boudia won the 10m platform diving gold! I was watching the prelims last night and he seemed to barely qualify. Good for him!!

We did absolutely everything right and even got the baton to the last leg tied with the Jamaicans. Just Bolt being faster than anyone we could have had on that leg but our anchor ran his heart out and was only beatenn by a very short distance by the fastest human to ever run.

There's a shock, the US women won a gold medal in Basketball. ;)

Won by almost doubling up France in the final. They are pretty good....
