Found an NES Classic in stock at Gamestop yesterday. Nabbed that for me, not for ebay.

How's the display on an HDTV? IIRC, Nintendo said that they upgraded the graphics a little to account for how new TVs work vs. the old tubes.

They offer 3 displays. The old CRT, a pixel perfect mode that fills in the missing CRT rows, and a 4:3 mode.

So it does look better.

Nothing interesting until Mass Effect at the end of March it seems.

Playing a bit of Fate/Extella and Digimon World: Next Order until then.

Bought the kids a PS4. The graphics for Battlefield 1 are so gorgeous I may have to give up my self-imposed exile (going on about 1 year now) of not playing games and least perform the campaign. Just wow.

Merry Switchmas everyone!

Might wait a bit for the rush/inevitable system kinks to die down and pick one up, if only for online Mario Kart and Splatoon. Breath of the Wild looks glorious too.

I bought a used Wii U last year, and ordered Breath of the Wild which should be sitting at my doorstep/mailbox as I type.

If you weren't one of the people quick on the trigger to pre-order it, the Switch is just going to be too difficult to find in stores for a while. I figure they'll be easier to find come April or May, and I can wait.

ETA: Also with Zelda, my coworker was telling me that you can find some advanced weapons early on in the game if you just wander around a bit rather than going straight for your first mission. It's supposed to be open world after the tutorial portion, so I assume they mean once you get to Hyrule Field.

That's my thinking too - wait for a few more titles to hit the market and see how it holds up. Plus you always want to avoid the first batch of systems because of the inevitable technical problems. I've seen a few posts on Reddit about running hot and bluescreening.

My son is Jonesing for Battlefront 3 even though we just got Battlefield 1 on the PS4 and he adores the game. Any thoughts? I know they're different games but a similar genre right?

Re: Official Video Games Thread VIII: Titans are destined to fall

I spent much of yesterday playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Yes, there are a great many elements held true from past Zelda games, but this is something entirely new. The differences between this game and past games is almost to the degree of Ocarina of Time vs. older games. And thus far, all I can say is that they've done it right. They changed the attributes to all of your weapons, how you come about finding your weapons and supplies, and how your health regenerates.

I've got about seven hours into the game, and I've yet to make it beyond the first quest - there's just so much exploration to do! Talking with my buddy at work, his kid logged in 24 hours over the weekend, and his son feels like the game has only just begun. Rupees are still part of the game, but I've yet to find one or have need of them.

From what I've seen the Yet Another Stupid Death potential gives Nethack a run for its money.

Especially anything involving the magnet gun.

I've died more times in this game than the last three combined. Not only are some of the foes a bit tougher, but there's a stamina meter for when you're climbing up a cliff or running, just like the old air meter when swimming in the older games. Going up those cliffs, sometimes your eyes get bigger than your stamina meter.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VIII: Titans are destined to fall

I've been playing Horizon Zero Dawn. Good open world rpg. Can see a bit of several games in it (tomb raider, skyrim, etc).

Question for those who have had an Xbox One longer than I, if I own the physical disk for a game, say The Division Gold Edition, and want to buy the digital basic version for dirt cheap so I don't have to keep putting the disk in, it will still be the Gold Edition right?

If gold was just dlc redeem codes, then I'd think it'll still be gold.

Thinking of upgrading from the Xbox 360 finally (even though I still have a backlog of games I need to play on that). Any of you have a strong recommendation one way or the other on Xbox One vs. PS4?

PS4 has MLB The Show. XBox One doesn't have an MLB game at all.

XBox One continues to add 360 games to their backwards compatibility, and some new games are playable on both Windows 10 AND Xbox when you purchase them.

If you do get an XBox, the new S model is the updated version, but a more powerful version named Scorpio is coming this year. All current and future Xbox One branded games and the current 360 Backwards compatible games will work on original Xbox Ones, "S" model, and the new Scorpio.

Both systems have rocket league and that'll be the only game you play forever and ever so there!
