Re: Official Video Games Thread VIII: Titans are destined to fall

Anyone got any hints for Binding of Isaac? Don't want to get spoiled, just general "hey, try/don't try this you idiot" stuff I should know about.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VIII: Titans are destined to fall

Does anybody other than Twitch actually have a Switch yet? I finished Zelda (storyline only so far), but it was on the Wii U.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VIII: Titans are destined to fall

Unlocked Eve on Binding of Isaac.

First run with her I get a freaking Crack The Sky in room 1 (shoots sunbeams everywhere that wreck everything, especially bosses, but takes a couple rooms to recharge.)

A few floors later I get a Virgo (protection from a whole mess of stuff) and a freaking Holy Mantle (free one-hit shield per room.) I'm pretty much ready for war.

Make it to Depths. Pick up The Emperor. Start getting ***pwned, get down to 2 hearts, decide to pull a "What does THIS do?"

Well I'll tell you what it does - warps directly to Mom (one of the numerous end bosses.) Crack The Sky isn't charged. Game over.

Walked in to Gamestop today, 5 min later UPS shows up with Switch shipment.

Take my money.

Hearing lots of places are getting in shipments to prepare for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe which drops Friday. Target and Wal-Mart especially.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VIII: Titans are destined to fall

Honestly, other than happening upon a $10 deal, is there are reason to purchase a game at a store anymore?

In this case I could see it saving on storage space (you only have ~25 GB and an AAA game can take 6 GB or more - believe MK8 was 6.9 GB when I looked in the eShop.)

I got Breath of the Wild and Bomberman on cartridge. I'll try to get MK8 on cartridge as well, but it's nice to know there's the eShop if that fails.

I buy them all from a store. It's near work, I build up relationship with employees. I can get better service and heads up on items coming in.

Pre-ordered at the store.

I was thinking more along the lines of ordering the game through Amazon or Target, just not going into a store and competing with the crowds.

Well, that makes sense. No stores are really that convenient for me.

My Gamestop still had 1 Switch left today out of the 5 they received yesterday. I'm surprised.

Maybe people are assuming they won't find one.

I've not bothered looking for one. Didn't think to even try until August or September.

Twitch, you should send me whatever code Switch uses to mp some Mario Kart.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VIII: Titans are destined to fall

Man, 200cc is like a completely different game.

Rocking Dry Bowser/Standard Kart/Rollers/Super Glider for 150cc, and Lemmy/Streetle/Rollers/Super Glider for 200cc.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VIII: Titans are destined to fall

The rubber banding once you move up to 100cc and above is ridiculous!

Re: Official Video Games Thread VIII: Titans are destined to fall

Unlocked the Biddybuggy. For those who don't know, there is a hidden stat that determines how quickly you can charge mini-turbos and how long they last, and this car gives a full +1 to that stat. Great for 200cc and great with the new third tier of sparks (it goes blue, orange, pink now, and pink's turbo lasts a full 3 seconds.)

Dry Bowser/Biddybuggy/Rollers/Super is my go-to in online. A freaking Bowser with 4+ acceleration and can pull off orange sparks at a decent clip. I'll switch Bowser for Lemmy if it's a tricky course or I'm getting Item Paraded.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VIII: Titans are destined to fall

Since my son was little and I pre-bought a game boy advance, I was always able to pick up the new game system (usually Nintendo, but sometimes x-box) for whatever the next gift giving event was. I even I got a pre-buy after the original person who earlier reserved the system "no longer needed it" according to the game store manager....seems like one person needed to be taken to the hospital following an all nighter for the release of the Wii.............

Anyway, my son is graduating from college, heading off to grad school and did not need the Switch so I did not keep an eye out for the pre-sells. I did try to find one at release (Ok, for me....) with no luck. I just happened to be at WalMart about 10:00 on Saturday night before Easter. There were 3 system in the case! I worried that someone's bunny might be shopping late, a bunny who really needed on for the morning so I passed on the system (perhaps an ethical thing since I really did not need one). About 3 pm on Sunday I went back and they were still there, so no ethical problem anymore, I picked one up. (Still have not opened it, but that is a different issue.......)

Re: Official Video Games Thread VIII: Titans are destined to fall

My one minor gripe with MK8D: N64 Rainbow Road should have an option for 3 full laps.

I see why they kept it at 1 lap, but have the option there for us crusty old N64 vets who want the charm of having a stupid 5-minute long race.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VIII: Titans are destined to fall

I cleared the 50 and 100cc with 3 stars. Now I'm putting down some time trial times to get better at the tracks for the 150 and 200cc runs.
