Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

I skipped the 2010 verson, so I might invest the $40 in 2011.
You'll probably be happier that way. As long as you're going to spend money, may as well spend money on a product that's current.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

So I've been playing NCAA a lot over the past two days. It appears that that the ****ing EA symbol has been ever so slightly burned into the tv... f*king awesome...

For real? There's a couple games I play that have certain things in the same spot every time, and nothing's been burned in yet (have had my tv for about 2 1/2 years).

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

yeah, i'm hoping it's just a temporary retention rather than burn-in

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Been playing Alien Swarm a lot this weekend - which is free on Steam. Pretty fun squad based game, actually. up to 4 players at once, co-op, the campaign's short but lots of mods and new maps out there. And even easy wasn't real easy

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Picked up Tiger Woods 10 this weekend (best buy had it 50% off because 11 just came out) and I'm impressed with it so far. Yeah yeah it's a wii game and the graphics aren't super special, but wow did a lot of my flaws from real life translate into the game thanks to the Wii Motion Plus.

Looking forward to EA Slapshot and 2k11 next month.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

I'm over 30 hours into Dragon Quest IX. I still have 13 bosses to defeat (i've killed 12) before I reach the end of the story part of the game. Then its on to the 100's of hours of post-game content.

I'd say it's been worth the $35. :D

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Anyone buying Starcraft II tonight/tomorrow?

I am interested to know if it's worth the $60. Especially info on what campaigns are available.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

So what's the story about the game being broken up and having to buy different versions for all of the single player campaigns. Any truth?

All 3 races are available in MP with the one coming out, but the campaigns are being broken up with the Protoss and Zerg ones being expansions.

****... I'm not paying more than $60 for that... I have no problem downloading the game if that's the kind of crap blizzard is going to foist on the consumer. Screw 'em.

Only the Terran campaign is coming with this one. You can play all 3 races in multiplayer/skirmishes, but they're claiming that they're doing 1 30 mission campaign instead of 3 10-mission ones.

Edit: I'm probably gonna head to best buy over lunch. It'll be a gametime decision if I actually buy it or not.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

I guess if I was more interested in multiplayer then I would pick this up. But I am not. So I will probably just wait till its a bargain bin title or go buy SC1 if I need a Zerg fix.

I don't like them, so I'll just steal it? Yeah, that's not how it works.

If you don't like their policies, then simply don't get it. That doesn't give you a right to pirate it.

You're right. But I'm still gonna do it and be **** happy with the $100+ in my pocket.

So yeah, I broke down and got SC2. So far, the campaign's pretty freaking fun. Done about 5 missions or so. Pretty much you get one new unit per mission, but after the first couple you get to pick between a couple missions as to what order you do them in. Storyline's pretty good so far, and between missions you get some random stuff to do like picking/researching upgrades to use in missions, mercenaries for hire, and the like, not to mention interacting with the various characters (Don't think this is a spolier, your main guy is Jim Raynor again). THe between mission stuff kinda reminds me of a firefly set - half sci-fi, half western.

Some of the basic achievments require doing certain things in missions on hard, and the step up in difficulty is noticeable. Haven't tried insane difficulty yet.

Otherwise, the usual sense of humor is everywhere...medics say "Please state the nature of the medical emergency" - SCV's will say "AH! You scared me!" and the like.

This video was epic enough...then add Gus Johnson...then add Mr. Obama.
