Official 2013-2014 Minnesota State University, Mankato Mavericks Season Thread

Re: Official 2013-2014 Minnesota State University, Mankato Mavericks Season Thread

How do you outshoot a team 28-10 and lose the game? SMH.
If it makes you feel better, we're not entirely sure ourselves. Honestly, it was not really a lack of effort by MSU. Maybe a couple of breaks for UAA and a really good play we're the difference tonight.

Un-effing-believable. Again a huge margin in shots, and another loss. 1-3 on the Alaska swing. I'm glad they enjoyed the sight-seeing.

They better get things figured out fast or this is going to be a season to forget. Tough series this weekend.

I'm a bit confused as to what happened. They were playing so well before Christmas and now....nothing. Giving up 2 goals on 10 shots and 3 goals on 16 shots is just asinine. Not being able to score on a guy that MSU has historically been pretty successful against and going 1-10 on the PP is even more baffling.

This weekend could be very ugly. Maybe this is just one of those teams that's very different at home than they are on the road and it will all be OK, but that might just be wishful thinking.

I'm not one for excuses by any means, but the were on a long, extended road trip up there. College kids aren't used to that.

The Mavs spent the week in Anchorage, practicing and doing a little sight-seeing. UAA was on the road, stuck in airports because of the weather, and only got back into Anchorage late on Thursday night. If anything, it should have been the Seawolves who were out of sorts.

Re: Official 2013-2014 Minnesota State University, Mankato Mavericks Season Thread

It was a disappointing trip. they NEED points this weekend if they want to have any chance of winning the conf. Ferris is going to be hard to catch if they keep playing like they have been. I don't know what will happen due to the new pairwise calculations but if they don't get a win against either Ferris, MN, or SCSU I would think it would be hard to get an at large bid either.

I agree with this, I am still in shock how UAA won/stole that Friday night game. At least you beat uaf once, that always makes UAA fans happy :)

AT that point, I think MSU would need to nearly sweep the rest of the conference schedule. This weekend will decide the post season fate of this team IMO. There is the conference tournament of course, but from an at-large perspective this weekend is the key.

Well we got off to a good start... nice sweep this weekend over Ferris State. Crazy games!

Nice wins this weekend. Hard to replace Stepan and Blueger next Friday though.

I hope that video of that fracas makes its way onto the Internet.

This is how rivalries are started. I officially hate Ferris State.

Agreed! I thought they grabbed and gooned it up on Blueger and Stepan all weekend. With that said...
WHEN YOU'RE 2 GOALS UP IN THE 3rd PERIOD, AND THE OPPONENTS SEND OUT THEIR 4th LINE HACKS TO START SOMETHING WITH YOUR TOP LINE, DON'T OBLIGE THEM!!! For the last 12 minutes of the game, we had most of our talent sitting (or standing, since we were out of room) in the penalty box, while their penalty box was filled with guys who would be healthy scratches for us. Teddy and Zach are the guys on our team most likely to be wearing NHL uniforms in the next few years. Teams are going to try to get them off their games, especially when we're rolling like we were in the 3rd period. We have to have the mental discipline to avoid things like tonight.

Mental disicipline I understand..but you're not going to let an opposing team come into your barn and beat the **** out of your teammates. In hockey, you stand up for anyone of your his whether you're the all star guy or te muck and grind tough guy. It sucks losing two guys for Friday, but I have no problem with Teddy and Zach stepping up and answering the call.
