Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

Re: Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

Still trying to decipher the "Miami and Notre Dame" turned their backs on Michigan comment over in their thread. Seems to be the exact opposite of everything we've heard from our administration, and well, their own coach/fan site. Unless Michigan came back on us with a 2-for-1 type deal, in which case I have no issue with walking away from that without a seconds thought.

Posting this over here since I have zero interesting in starting a flame war over all this crap again, what's done is done.

Is it Saturday yet?

Edit: So from their end it's Rico that doesn't want to keep playing. The dissemination of disinformation here is impressive. Who's lying?!?! We may never know!

This is possibly the best that the CCHA could have asked for in terms of name recognition. Hopefully there are plenty of 'hawk fans headed north.

I'm there +12 or so!

Btw, does anyone know what section(s) the Miami tickets and band are in. Want to try and buy in that general vicinity.

Considering Michigan's propensity for belittling other schools in in all sports, I don't find it hard to believe that Michigan would completely walk away from a Miami-Michigan series. For my part, I've always enjoyed playing them in hockey on a relatively equal footing over the past 5 years or so. I considered it a very friendly rivalry that had some of the best hockey talent in the country. If they don't see it that way, that's a shame.

Losing this game - even as a non-conference game - is a loss to both schools in my book, but there are plenty of other top tier schools that we can court.

My guess is that the band will be in the corner around section 227. I believe Miami's section is behind the home bench, sections 122/222 - 128/228.

Re: Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

The only other thing I'd say about it all -

Miami walking away from Michigan (or ND or MSU for that matter) if given the option for a recurring 1-for-1 would make zero sense, and our administration as expressed as much. They are not naive enough to think it's not going to be an uphill battle selling North Dakota as our marquee opponent. Keeping as many "name" schools as possible on the slate has to be a priority going forward.

If it was on our end, I guess they had their reasons. However, from Steve Cady on down, everyone has expressed at least once that while they are excited about the move to the NCHC, there is a sense of regret that we'll not longer have our one sport which we are on an equal level with the big schools. Telling Michigan to shove it would seem to fly counter to that.

Michigan, otoh, doesn't need Miami. Or any opponent for that matter. There are perks to being Michigan.

Inquiring minds can draw their own conclusions...

Hockey!

I'd say it's probably fair to throw the results from Yost out the window. I know a few Michigan (and probably one Minnesota) posters are leaning heavy on that split as a basis for their expectations, but it seems kinda irrelevant to me.

Friday Loss - We had a roster with 13 freshman, playing in their first ever road game, at Yost nonetheless. Tack on McKay going down after 1 save, and Williams still being in a bit of a soft serve ice cream phase. Michigan wins.

Saturday Win - Had a nice comeback in the 3rd, but their D is somewhat shored up, and Racine is playing much better. Not the same Michigan team we'll be seeing on Saturday.

My guess is that the band will be in the corner around section 227. I believe Miami's section is behind the home bench, sections 122/222 - 128/228.

Gracias!

Agree on all accounts, I would hope the university's athletic administration sees that loosing largely popular regional opponents is actually a pretty bad thing. Also the travel is going to suck for the team more than people realize. Can't just swing the bus up to michigan for the weekend anymore. This is North Dakota we're talking about.

Re: Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

Rookie of the year - Riley Barber
Coach of the Year - Rico
Player of the Year - Austin Czarnik

Now lets get the mason cup! Going with a bunch of my ND, UM, OSU and Miami grad/med school classmates to the games tomorrow. Hopefully its a great atmosphere.

Re: Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

Boom goes the dynamite... Again...

See if we can make 3 times a charm. Redskins scalp michigan and end their ridiculous tourney streak.

Hoping you can pull off another prediction :D

I'm not sure if Czarnik being among the Hobey finalists is because of the fact that they didn't want the CCHA to get whitewashed in our last year, or the voters actually looked beyond the scoresheet and nominated an impressive two-way forward, either way, great for him and Riley and Rico for their awards.

Re: Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

Just got back from work, yikes...

It sucks that a game against UM at the Joe got so out of hand, but I suppose it isn't surprising given the history. But please, for the love of god, we have to get it together for the tournament. I'm not sure if I can handle being one and done for three years in a row.

Re: Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

Lol. we really are a pretty over rated team. :o Maybe over achieving is a better term on top of the fact that there are no dominant teams in college hockey this year.

Anyway. Looking forward to the tournament and really hoping that we do not continue this concerning trend of laying an egg in important games.

I began mentally preparing myself around the time that infernal song was echoing through the Joe for the 17th time in 2 minutes. Or however many times and however the hell fast they scored on Saturday.

Perhaps we'll be surprised. I'll be there for game 1, maybe game two if we somehow manage a win, but with everyone tied up in Easter activities, I believe I'd be flying solo

Re: Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

It was good to meet you, 628, though wish it was under better circumstances. I will not miss having to play Michigan in that building.

Indeed on all accounts.

Add in that Michigan fans were especially chirpy this weekend, and you have just a miserable few hours at the Joe.

Re: Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

I am completely exasperated with this program. It's not about the regular season. We simply do not know how to play in tournament games. As much as we like to laud Rico and the staff, they simply do not prepare teams well for the CCHA tournament or the national tournament. My expectations for the weekend are quite tempered.

Re: Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

Call me crazy, but I have a good feeling about this year's tournament. Our best seasons in recent memory came during season(s) with freshman goalies, disappointing CCHA tournaments and all around low expectations going into the NCAAs. Who seriously looked at our Region with Denver and UMD in 08-09 (especially after getting beat at home by NMU in the CCHA tournament) and thought that we had a good shot at making a run to the title game?

Sure, this past weekend left a poor taste in all of our mouths, but... why not us? Go Miami!

Re: Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

Don't get me wrong, I'll be there, I'll be cheering, I'll be amped up on the drive over...just...yeah...

I truly thought this was the team that would break the mold of postseason letdowns. I had very high expectations for this past weekend, as well as the national tournament. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem anything has changed, same old ****. That doesn't mean Rico can't get this team to Pittsburgh, he absolutely can.

It's just frustrating seeing the same story play out again, and again, and again. I know it was just one loss to Michigan, but the game was so emblematic of this program's play in meaningful games since their ascension, it's just disheartening. Would love nothing more than to be proven wrong!

Re: Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

I'm just glad that we are not playing a hockey east team on their own doorstep. Only 2 CCHA teams in it this year, yikes. I guess I'm still a bit shell-shocked that WMU didn't make it, they seemed like they were in a solid position when the conference playoffs started.

Another gem of an article from Paula today. Apparently because we had a terrible game against UM, the country's second best scoring defense is our "inconsistent" weakness.
