Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

Re: Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

Congrats to Barber and Kuraly. Miami could have had 6 players on the world junior preliminary roster

This is absolutely insane. Classy move by Rico to congratulate not only Barber and Kuraly on twitter but also Biggs, Murphy, Sieloff and Hartman.

In other news, Riley Barber named CCHA Rookie of the Month once again, not that this is much of a surprise.

With the first WJ Camp practice scheduled for December 16 at 5:30 pm, any chance Barber and Kuraly miss one or both of the games against Ohio State Dec 14 and 15?

But we're talking about practice man. What are we talking about?*"Practice"? We're talking about practice, man. We're talking about practice. We're talking about practice. We aint talking about the game

Maybe WJC camp will reignite whatever Kuraly had going on before this year started. Mullin and Coleman aside, that would be huge if he could get going.

As Mcfarljd said, it could be a depth issue. This could be totally inaccurate but IMO he hasn't adjusted to the increase in defensive zone starts and decrease in minutes.

On a sad note. It looks like Kapalka (aka Kevin) has been demoted to back up.

I think he was hurt at the start of the year - not sure if he lost his job in the process.

Sad day indeed.

I wasn't aware he had such a fan club in Oxford :p

But in all seriousness, I do remember watching him when he was a freshman in Oxford and thinking he had a great career ahead of him. I also remember being a big fan of those blue laker jerseys.

I thought for sure LSSU was going to tie it up. They played really tough and were impressive in power play situations. A Win is a win!

Re: Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

Tough weekend for our special teams in particular. I'll give LSSU full credit for their power play goals, but I was incredibly frustrated watching our PP both nights. It always seemed like a one-man show--skate in fast, take shot from the top of the circle, clear zone, repeat--rather than a team effort to cycle the puck and create higher-quality scoring opportunities.

Tonight the team just seemed out-of-sync in general. Part of that was the strong play by the Lakers, but I can't give them all the credit! Alaska roadie hangover? Final exams on their minds? Whatever it is, it needs to get figured out. Then they can take out any residual frustrations up in Columbus next weekend.

Took the girlfriend up to Oxford for her first Miami hockey game... and we lay an egg, awesome.

Our final SOG numbers look impressive, but in reality I feel like we created very few actual scoring chances. Special teams definitely need to improve, our PP was almost painful to watch.

+1

Give the Lakers credit for their special teams. Their power play is as good as I've seen in college hockey. They were also very good at pressuring Czarnik and Wideman up top and we were not at all prepared. All I want for Christmas is an offensive d-man. Someone who can keep shots low and on target. Regardless, we are terrible at moving the puck on the PP and rely solely individual skill. I'm sure that the PP and PK will be addressed this week in practice.

Star of the weekend has to be Kuraly. Maybe being invited to try out for the WJC gave him a jolt of confidence but he was definitely noticeable and made a positive impact nearly every time he touched the puck. Mckay and Williams were also solid.
