Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

Re: Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

Give the Lakers credit for their special teams. Their power play is as good as I've seen in college hockey.

Really? This isn't sour grapes or anything, but I thought it looked pretty average. They didn't even manage a shot on their first two PPs.

Regardless, we are terrible at moving the puck on the PP and rely solely individual skill. I'm sure that the PP and PK will be addressed this week in practice.

It was really frustrating to see out guys just passing at the blue line on the PP. Lake state was doing a good job of pressuring really high up, and we were totally unable to get the puck down low.

Star of the weekend has to be Kuraly. Maybe being invited to try out for the WJC gave him a jolt of confidence but he was definitely noticeable and made a positive impact nearly every time he touched the puck. Mckay and Williams were also solid.

It was definitely nice to see Kuraly throwing his size around and going hard to the net, still really waiting for him to hit his stride though. And yes, goalies were great, McKay really deserved better.

Just the way they move the puck and the way that they use the entire zone. It was really hard for Hagel or Czarnik to get in the shooting lanes.

Well, after the dust has settled we took a decent hit in the PWR and ceded first place in the conference. Hopefully this last result has lit a fire under the *** of the offense and we can bring a bit more energy into 3 straight against OSU.

Agree with that side of the coin, perhaps a loss will keep the team honest and drive them to keep working hard. Especially for the young guys, at this point in the season a loss like that doesn't ruin our tournament chances or anything. Might be good to keep everyone from getting complacent

Re: Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

46 saves.... seriously, so frusturating to watch

That looked like Miami teams of, well, every year. No real threatening shots. No getting to the net. No puck movement. It was settling for perimeter shots and Max Cook wristers from just inside the blue line with no traffic in front. That was a classic example of why we look so bad against teams that collapse in front of their net. Rico has no solution for this.

That was ugly.

Remember when Tyler Austin Biggs was going to be the answer to this? A gritty net-front presence who could screen and slam home the dirty goals on the nights where finesse wasn't working. Ahhh, those were the days :)

At any rate, it was one game for a young team who has been playing well above expectations. All will be well after they kick OSU's *** this weekend.

Agree on all.

Re: Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

Big series against the Bucks and I'm so swamped with final exams that I can't even get somewhere to watch tonight's game on the BTN. However, a road sweep would certainly help alleviate my suffering. :D

Maybe BGeron will also help us out this weekend with an upset (or two)!

Re: Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

Pretty excited to see the game on BTN. I think a solid six point weekend would be a great note to end the first half, certainly can't be dropping any more points if we want to stay on ND's heels.

Re: Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

10 game OHL suspension for Stefan Noesen could carryover to World Juniors if IIHF follows through leaving right wing position wide open for Riley Barber to take a spot on the team.

Big weekend in Columbus this week. Excited to watch on BTN tonight.

Re: Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

Well, not quite the result we needed. It just seemed like everybody was out of sync tonight. Passes into the skates, not many chances created in the offensive zone. Hopefully taking the shootout will carry over some momentum.

Also, side note: Probably goes without saying, but Williams is an absolute beast in the shootouts. Has he let one in yet?

Edit: Second side note: My god, BTN hockey commentary is a joke.

Williams has yet to let in a single goal during a shootout. We've had 3 for CCHA purposes (plus the random one from the game against Providence).

Missed the first period and a half before I got access to BTN2Go but, like you said, the team just seemed like they weren't quite clicking, particularly the offense. Hopefully tomorrow they can reestablish that rhythm that we saw prior to last week.

Re: Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

5 out of 6 ain't bad considering finals week and awful ice against the "giants of hockey" :D

Re: Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

Overall, a better game than last night, but still didn't feel the offense was clicking on all cylinders.

Re: Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

Offense looked back to usual form for longer stretches, crisp passing ect, but still with a few lapses of focus at times. McKay looked great, also if anything, OSU played a bit worse than last night which helped

So for Mullin it seems like it's the fourth line or the bench. He must really be on Rico's sh*tlist.

Shades of Gary Steffes' senior year, he's totally dropped off the radar. Hopefully whatever is going on works itself out before Mullin (or Tampa) decides Miami isn't the best fit for him.
