According to this week's Student article, McKay is 100%, but Rico was noncommittal on if he would be starting a game or not.

That's great news! Hope we see him back out there tonight.

And I fully support your new avatar selection.

Just got back to Cincy from the game, thought we were unlucky not to get the W, but credit to the keepers who both played a very good game. When I saw McKay doing some serious warming up I was pretty excited to see him back in action, maybe Rico will give him the nod tomorrow.

Re: Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

Is he for sure injured? It was weird seeing him on the fourth line and we thought maybe he was just in a slump

Hmm... well maybe the fact that I thought he didn't play is indicative of his impact lately. I was just watching the guys warm up yesterday and trying to think who Doherty (who I had never really heard of before) would be replacing.

Edit: Checked the box score, no Mullin.

Good night for Williams, first college shutout. But credit to the defense, limiting them to 13 shots, another solid 5 point weekend for Miami.

You would have to think with a bye week coming up that McKay has to be ready to get back out there, Williams has been solid but I'm eager to see the return of the rotation.

Looks to me like the first three lines are starting to find some chemistry, tons of shots tonight, the MSU goalie kept it close. Hopefully the younger guys (especially on D) can continue to improve with every game. Wideman is quietly on fire btw, Im thinking Miele by the time he's a senior.

He certainly is playing well, but if anybody is the heir to Andy Miele, I think we have to look no further than the Czar.

Now I'm enjoying a beer and Minnesota/Wisconsin on BTN, fights everywhere, great for a neutral.

I agree. Czar first, Barber second , then little Wide.

We are playing way better than I thought or hoped we would be at this stage of the season. With CCHA looking pretty even, who knows???

Re: Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

a couple of thoughts after this weekend:

1. AC simply has an insane instinct on the ice. couple that with his jedi-like hands and you get truly enjoyable hockey.

2. Williams has ice-water in his veins when it comes to the shootout. what is he now, 3 for 3? very much gets us beyond the hesitation that i had regarding the transition of senior tandem/trio-to-freshman tandem.

this might be my most critical of the day:

3. *** is wrong with the fans in Oxford, Ohio?! i watched on Friday via MUAA, and was absolutely appalled at how bored all of the students and adults looked. I never remember there being such apathetic fans standing there with their arms folded. even the choreographed chants barely came over the broadcast. Yo, *********s! you don't go to the hockey game to "jump around" for 20 seconds and look pretty! if you actually like hockey or want to chant or cheer (i.e. make the rink miserable for the opposing team), then leave. you're keeping an ACTUAL hockey fan from enjoying the game.

That is all.

Miami needs a devoted student section organization (official or not) that is tasked with generating energy and developing/innovating the chants. Red Alert could theoretically take on this responsibility, but I think it would be more effective to have either a completely new hockey-focused group or at least a subgroup created within Red Alert. It was fine when hockey success was the new thing on campus, but now it's expected and the fans grow complacent. There needs to be a concerted effort to reinvigorate the gameday atmosphere.

I agree to an extent, but from the two home games I have been able to get to this season, the one saving grace is that the student section appears to be full well before the game starts. Last season (my senior year), student attendance seemed patchy to say the least. We would fill up the barn for OSU or UM, but for a low-enthusiasm conference game the place would be 75% full on a good day, and that's after the first period.

So yea, the current students could use a bit of an enthusiasm boost, but at least they are showing up in better numbers (based on nothing more than personal observation).

I think that the attendance this year has been much better because of our home record. Last year we lost our opener to Bemidji and that didn't do any good in retaining first time attendees.

The game day atmosphere has been on a steady decline since the graduation of the 09, 10 and 11 classes. There is a desperate need for innovation in the student section and the whole game day operations. It gets so repetitive. Same chants, same arena songs, same everything. I might as well use this post to make all my suggestions.
1. Get rid of the Red Alert Priority seating. In fact, get rid of Red Alert. Red Alert does have some of the most passionate fans but they are a useless organization. It drives me crazy when there are empty balcony seats and people leave games because of the lack of seating. Seriously, what good does the organization do? What is the point of the club?
2. Make a new organization specific for hockey. Goggin should be the toughest place to play in the country. How many other schools have the students right on the glass? Blue line to Blue line? I've never seen a similar construction. A little organization could go a long way for getting under other teams skin. Find out personal things about the goalie, taunt him, make signs etc..
3. GET RID OF THE SEXUAL INNUENDO CHEERS. We're not in ****ing middle school.
4. I ****ing hate the frat bro's. Not all members of the greek community because I know many of them that come to games and are normal human beings. The ones I am talking about show up 20 minutes before puck drop and feel like the are entitled to the best seats because it's their annual event. They dress like its an alabama football game and make it a point not to wear any school colors because school spirit isn't frat. They don't stand during the game because that would mean that are part of the student body and then they leave in the middle of the second period... I should organize thousands of people to go to POTH and obnoxiously leave during the middle of the most important part.

I could go on but Goggin should be the toughest place to play in the country. Right now, student interest is high but if they are not a fan of the sport there is absolutely nothing to engage them. Maybe the new athletic director will make student engagement a priority.

No way anyone assigns value to different parts of POTH. Too frat to care bro, too frat to care. ;)
