Re: Official 2011-2012 NHL Season Thread: 2 Sedins, No Cup!

Always loved seeing college and the minors in home whites. Dumb move by Bettman a few years back trying to be like the No Fun League and have the colored jerseys at home.

Worst case, let December be "road jersey at home month" if you really must allow the home fans to see what the road jerseys look like.

9 times out of 10, I prefer the non-whites. Everyone has a white jersey. Show off the team colors! I maybe own 3-4 whites, as opposed to 9-10 coloreds (commence misinterpretation).

Right, so why would I want to see the same color on every opposing team that shows up in my team's building? Say I have season tickets. That means I see 41 games a year. If the home team wears the non-white jersey, then I see three jerseys: white, home colored, and alternate. If the home team wears white, then I see 25 different jerseys: white, alternate, and the colored jersey of each of the 23 different opposing teams to which my team will play host (14 in-conference, 9 opposing conference).

If you really want the fans to see a variety of jerseys, then have the home team wear white.

But you only buy the home team's jersey. That is the logic here. They don't give a **** what you see, only what you buy. You might buy other jerseys, but most fans only buy home jerseys.

I don't. I've only bought Sabres / RPI jerseys.

If it's necessary to showcase the home team's non-white jerseys, then have them wear white one game, colored another, and alternate during the third game against their division opponents (since you get three home games against each of them).

Re: Official 2011-2012 NHL Season Thread: 2 Sedins, No Cup!

I had thought that the NHL stopped using home whites when the teams started to wear third jerseys (which are usually colored) at home so much. It meant that the traveling team had to take both their whites and colored jerseys with them on trips. It got to be a pain and expensive so they switched to home colors so that the traveling teams just had to take whites.

A hero to old fhartz like me who still lace them up! :D

Due to personal reasons, Niklas Backstrom, who was the scheduled starter tonight, will not be at the game tonight. That means Josh Harding will be the starter, but here’s where it gets interesting.

Houston Aeros goaltender Matt Hackett has been recalled and is on a flight to the Twin Cities right now. He’s not expected to touch down on the biggest travel day of the year until about 6:30. That means the likelihood that he’s here for warmups is very small and he may even miss part of the first period.

The Wild has reacted by signing Paul Deutsch (51 years old), who runs a screen printing and embroidery store in Richfield, as the emergency goaltender. As per League rules, the Wild was forbidden from signing a goalie with professional experience, so Deutsch signed his ATO today.

I heard that he started playing goal at the young age of 37.

Yep - not bad for a '60 :D

Of course, Johnny Bower was north of 40 when he finished playing! ;)

Another big win for the Bruins, 10-0 in November, heading into a huge matchup with Detroit Friday afternoon.

Boo -- he didn't get to be the backup, but he did dress for the warm up.
