Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

Nice to see us put the puck in the net during a shootout for a change. Still trying to figure out what Tiesling was doing at the end of the 3rd, he had Miele right in front of him for the empty netter.

Side not, I have a pretty big concern with this team right now....I know its hard to find one but 7 games in and the sign of them consistantly getting outplayed in the third period is puzzling. Now this has mostly happened when they have big leads and they let their foot off the gas but I would like to see the foot stay on the gas because it will need to be once you get into the meat of this schedule. Just an observation, don't like lossing third periods.

A good observation, and certainely reaffirmed tonight. Just seemed out of sync compared to the first 3 games of the homestand but some of that can be attributed to a much better showing from LSSU. Big month ahead with 3 road series

Exactly, plus he was over the red line himself. SHOOT THE PUCK! I guess he didn't have the experience of DC to let him know that we need to clear it whenever we can with the other goalie pulled.

Lake also did an excellent job tonight of clogging the lanes in their defensive zone, still some pretty looks from the super line, but only could light the lamp twice. Those guys love going for the homerun pass, and they are so close to hitting it alot of times when it doesn't work. Either way, some more time playing together they'll get it down. This new modified touch up icing will definitely help these boys out with their speed in winning races to the corners.

Speaking of which, nice blown call on the Lake icing in the second. They blew it down with Miami winning the race, Roque goes ballistic, and instead of putting the puck at centre they give them an offensive zone faceoff, which they got a lot of looks off of. Glad it didn't pay off.

Ha almost on cue, scary. But they did it again, they let the play come to them in the third...it is proving to be a problem this year, part of that is leadership. If you remember this team wsa stronger in the third period last year than any other period.

or stay onside.....

Blown icing's no longer go to center ice, that was changed a few years ago. It goes to the end zone dot where the inadvertant whistle was blown if they recognize it.

As for lake, they played better but wouldn't give them all the credit. However their goaltender played extremely well and was the difference last night. But Miami got more quality chances last night than they did friday. Just a looming trend we are seeing, and I don't like it.

5 pts is better than 3 but you need to get 6 against teams like lake st.

On to Ferris where we always get a tough matchup, wouldn't call this next stretch tough. The stretch in january and february is tough but playijng on the road with a target on your back is never easy. In theory Miami should win, but anything can happen this conference is shaping up to be pretty tough.

Yeah the same Ferris team that nearly had a win against Mich on Friday. Can't remember the sat score. On phone. But thought that was close too. Gonna be a tough weekend. had some good early competition tho so should be ready. Just don't take their foot off the gas anymore.

For those of us who "live and die" for our favorite college hockey team, there comes a time when that is secondary. And that time came to Pioneer fans this weekend.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. — University of Denver center Jesse Martin sustained three neck fractures in Saturday night's hockey game at North Dakota and was transferred to a Minneapolis hospital this morning where doctors are deciding if emergency surgery is required to relieve swelling of the spinal cord, the player's father said.

My prayers are with him and his family, I saw the play live and sent a text to '95 immediately saying it wasn't good. We here at Miami recently learned the same lesson with Will Weber's accident so we definantly know what your program is going through.

Yeah, saw the replay. He got absolutely trucked. With his head at a weird angle. Just happy to hear he has feeling. Could have been much, much worse I suppose.

Two big time injuries in two weeks, both with what appear to be happy endings is the good part, I guess.

something that is actually shocking is that a Miami player has won the conference offensive player of the week every week.....

You know the Michigan (school) bias in the CCHA office has to be burning pretty good about now.

But just before Saturday's game I noticed something that made me a lot less proud to be a Badger. A bunch of fans in section 117 were dressed as a band of Indians, complete with body paint that bordered on blackface and some celebratory (and more than a little stereotypical) whooping throughout the game.

How do we think this gentlemen would react to hearing a little Scalp Song in Oxford?

cmon 628, surely an experienced fan such as yourself would know that those lyrics have been locked away for decades in the "restricted section" of King lib, right?

Touche.

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

Not much chatter on here this week. Big series this weekend again Ferris. Anything more than three points would be gravy. Hopefully we can at least split up there. They were tough on Michigan last weekend and I'm sure will be primed to host the #1 team in the country.

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

4-3-1 Ferris hosts 5-1-2 Miami this weekend.

Ferris is coming off a 2 point weekend against Michigan, while Miami is coming off a 5 point weekend against Lake State (thanks Tiesling)...

Offense
Ferris
Redmond -- 4-4--8
Billins -- 2-4--6
Hennig -- 4-1--5

Miami
Camper -- 9-13--22
Miele -- 4-13--17
Smith -- 7-4--11

Goalies
Ferris
Nagle -- 4-2-1 record. 1.84 GAA. .925 Sv%
Nelson -- 0-1-0 record. 4.09 GAA. .803 Sv%

Miami
Reichard -- 4-0-0 record. 2.11 GAA. .906 Sv%
Knapp -- 1-1-2 record. 2.39 GAA. .893 Sv%

Ferris is averaging 28.5 shots per game, and 2.75 goals/game. Miami is putting 33 shots on net each night, with a 4.62 goals/game average. Both teams are giving up 2.25 goals/game.

Ferris seems to have the better Powerplay early, with Miami the better Penalty Kill. Ferris with a 22.9 PP and 82.9 PK. Miami with a 20.5 PP and 86.4 PK.

Ferris is averaging 14.88 PIM a game. Miami with a 17.75 average.

Last year in Oxford Ferris got the best of us with their tremendous trap system and caught us off guard. Just tried to get a lucky goal and hang on for 45 minutes for a 1-0 win. When we made the return trip, we outscored them 9-4 in Big Rapids. No surprises this year for our boys. Should be able to come away with at least a win and a tie.
