Soooo I've usually had pretty decent experences at Matthews, I enjoy escaping the tyranny of Agganazis... but now I find they come to NU on Saturdays dressed in orange, what gives?

They weren't here for our last game, how recent is this development and why did the administration see fit to add them to the cathedral?

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

I know I said see you in October, but I had to blog just one more for the Gipper....How perfectly the title of this Thread had been named..what is it, "Death Post Thiessen".

I hate to say I told you so sports fans..but my predictions were dead balls accurate. I predicted a 15 win season we got 16., I did that in October by the way, and 2 weeks ago I foreshadowed this 9th place finish....I guess 40+ years of playing, coaching and watching is worth something.

Here is the news from the alumni club & the expensive seats, Rawlings will be fighting for his job next year as Sr. Bennington will be escorted to the the nose bleed seat that Dylan Wiwchar had been keeping warm for the 2.5 years. Thank you Dr. Wiwchar..you were the best practice player in the history of the school and they only scholarship player to get a PH.D.while playing a varsity sport...Nice job.

Word is, there is some other lackey Canuck coming from the Maritimes to try and stop the bleeding.

Not that Rawlings is bad..he 's ok.. OK is good enough if your BU, but not NU! NU has to have a Doorstop between the pipes every year to compete.

To his credit Rawlings stops a lot of shots, but let's face it, he also let's in way too many bad shots (crappers) as well, like he did twice tonight.

Of course, getting out shot 2 to 1 most nights is not helping matters..but that leads me to the other fundamental flaws of the team..it's D and it's O.

Aside from these 3 issues were f-ing perfect. Obviously 93 goals is not enough offense in the premier college league in North America.

There is talk of attempting to farm the prior Eastern Block to try and close the gap between the haves and have not's of Beantown hockey. Easier said then done, not that I could give a fat rat's ars as to where they come from as long as they can play. Hell, I'll scream, "Lenin and Marx are God" if it gets us a National Championship

Also note worthy tonight, the rumblings and grumblings tonight focused around Cronin's abysmal record against BU 2-16-5 including Beanpots and tonight's must win.

These were loud burps and farts by lots of those 60 and 70 y.o guys who have buildings named after them on campus. They will of course die and fade into oblivion as this crowd gets ready for spring golf, khaki shorts, brandy snifters the the cool sea breezes that only "The Cape" can provide. All will be forgotten come October and thank God it will.

Alas, Cronin fans don't fret because he is on a 5 year extenuation so these Piz and moans should not amount to much in the long run.

Some good recruits are on the way...and the more things change the more they stay the same. Don't strain your neck looking up at BU and BC. I can do it for you. After all I have grown accosted to it the last 20 years.

Now I can say see you all in October it's been a blast...Not! RR signing out.

Although I have issues with other things in your post, too, that comment is laughable this year. HEA is VERY weak this year compared to normal. I invite you to watch some teams from the WCHA. Anyhoooooo...

What a disappointing game tonight. I thought Rawlings played pretty well, as he had little support in front of him. The Huskies looked a step (or five) slow, they reacted slow, they lost the physical battles, they lacked intensity, and the offense was **** near anemic. Just an ugly way to end the season. I feel bad that the seniors have to go out like this, as this is a good senior class, and I thought the seniors all played well tonight, especially Kraemer and Strathman.

Glad you pointed it out. Mediocrity reigns supreme in HE this year. Terrible year for HE.

Was going to say the same thing... if the tournament field was announced today there would be two HE teams... how is that the premier league in the country?

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

Rossi says it like he sees it.. always some truth to it.

Tonight i thought the team played alright (save goalie).. i think Rawlings would love to have that last goal (off the faceoff) back. The 3rd he gave up.. we know his lateral move needs improvement.. but that last goal..he did not seem ready.. on a faceoff! (my opinion)

Not his best gm but it happens. I am still confident he will win the starting job nxt season. G'luck to all the seniors.. Kyle Kraemer, super player he will be missed. Thnks to all the seniors. .500 post Thiessen & sans Quailer - that's the long & short of it.

Yes the premier league in the Country.. look for the 2 or perhaps 3 teams that make it to go deep into the tournament.. by the way, parity breeds great hockey and national champions because you grind it out every nite, in a league w/o the like of the bowling greens, Clarkson's and Connecticut's etc, etc of the world to pump up your over inflated records and confidence. Its the premier league ask any scout.. Ask me I played in it.

Parity is prevalent in the WCHA, too, but the teams are better. Sorry, but that's a simple fact, especially this year.

I cannot completely fault Rawlings for the final goal tonight, the fact is that this team cannot win faceoffs at all, especially ones in the offensive zone and on the powerplay.

Agreed. Actually, I thought Rawlings played well tonight. His team was allowing traffic in front of him all night, along with a ton of shots.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

Have to agree with Rossi, after twenty years of this.....it gets old. I know the kids try their best and we are fortunate to have many talented players representing the school. I'm glad to see the incoming recruits look just as talented. I know Cronin's record vs. BU is atrocious and that is the measuring stick really. I'd give him a few more years though. The BU's and BC's get every kid they want. Recruiting for them is really kind of a joke. Cronin has to be far more resourceful. His recruiting is as good as I've seen since the late 80's and early 90's at least. I know one of the kids signed for 2012 is a shorty but for the most part, unless your name is Gerbe, Gionta or Guerreiro, at 5'6"/5'7" you should probably be in D3. At least he's been moving away from those types. And if Quail was healthy we'd be talking about next weekend but injuries happen.

Kudos to Kraemer for having a very good senior year. And Driscoll was as smart a player as we've had. Up there with Judy as far as limiting dumb mistakes. Good luck to Strathman too. They should all get a shot at playing professionally somewhere.

Looking forward to next year....

NU overall wins 16... (out of playoffs)
UNH overall wins 16... (1st seed)

:)

I know i'm not looking at HE records.. just amazed by what just happened tonight.

My thoughts exactly.

BU is not the measuring stick for Cronin's success. Just, no.

Frustrating ending, frustrating year. That's about as much as I can say right now. I'm very optimistic about next year and next year's class, but thinking about next year just makes me think about this year which makes me ****ed. So I'm not going to do that.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

Disclaimer, this is a rant.

Ok so I ask you NU fans, which year was the fluke? This year's 9th place finish or last year's run to the ncaa's? Was it just one incredible class that came through here or are we really building something?

All the talk at the end of last year was, man this freshman (currently sophmore) sure is talented, I can't wait to see them develop. Unless I'm blind, they all regressed, everyone of them (naturally Quailer gets a pass). Highest scoring sophmore was tuckerman with 12 points and 66 penalty minutes. He was practically invisible for the 2nd half of the season. Weren't we talking about 20 point seasons for guys like him and hoping Mclaughlin develops into a consistent producer (he came on late but for the first 3/4th of the season he was utterly useless).

We didn't get one consistent contributor all year. Not. One. Guys like Macleod came on late as did McNeely but where were they earlier in the year when we were anemic offensively?

Then there is our style of play. I don't know if it's working. This whole allow a ton of shots and try and take advantage of odd man rushes thing works when you have a stud goalie, but quite frankly it is insane to think that you can win with that style with a freshman goalie. I'm not hating on Rawlings, I like what he did FOR A FRESHMAN, but honestly I think a lot of his saves sometimes are him just putting his 6'5 frame infront of a general area and him getting lucky, he reacts late to a lot of shots which shows that a lot of the time that he just doesn't have a clue as to where it is. That needs to improve as well as his lateral movement, which I feel I don't need to harp on. But again, FOR A FRESHMAN, I'm fine with him. I also think that we are getting far too much offensive talent to continue this trap style, soon we should be able to run a high enough octaned offense (our team is fast) to get away from this trap stuff. We have too much offensive talent not to be scoring 4-5 goals a game, some of that this year was lines getting used to each other, and I get that, but we really need to put more pucks in the net next year.

I think our freshman are good this year, but they better not just flame out like last year's freshman, they were truly disappointing this year, all of them. The only one I like is Mclaughlin, kid has heart, but who's to say he just doesn't take the first half off this coming year only to show up for the last 5-6 games?

We didn't lose all that much TALENT wise for this senior class, Driscoll is a big loss given our current defensive depth (little to none, I don't want to see Maley ever again) but I don't think we will regress next year (we will be better than PC).

I'll hold off on a prediction for next year until we know who leaves in HE, I don't think any of our best players are good enough to leave HE for the professional leagues, so I don't expect to lose anyone early.

Even though Greg Cronin had a good yr last season & a not so good yr this season.. I am very glad he got the extension at the U. I am confident his best at NU is yet to come.
