Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

Man did i get filleted for that post!!! Holy Crap!!! I was simply making an observation, giving my kudos, and imagining "what if." Which, if you think about it, is exactly what we're all doing on this board.

I realize that you can't take a single weekend off - without a doubt. But has this team given you any single iota of an inkling that they would do that?? I have to say that this is by far the most even-keeled, level-headed team that I can remember. They simply play in this moment. That tells me not to worry about a let-down in the second half. Granted, any one of our opponents can play the game of their lives on any night. But I was only dreaming about a padded/inconsequential stat.

Also, you guys know that i'm generally not to big on speculation. I'm usually the realist that looks for more perfection. Also, i'm not a bandwagon guy. I was pretty positive all of last year - even through the tough times.

But I'm thrilled I was able to get someone to lecture me....it's just the dream of a lifetime.

I don't think anyone here thinks you are bandwagon. The person I think he is refering too I ran off last year and he has yet to return, THANKFULLY! :D

And redeagle has earned the right to lecture us all, just take it in stride with a smile on your face :p .

I like your enthusiasm, but there is one thing you will have to learn. It is ok to think it but just don't say it! :D At this level of hockey anything can happen, and your right they haven't shown any reason to believe of a let down this year either. But they didn't last year, and speaking from experience a month off can do a number on even the best of teams. Hockey isn't a game where you can take time off and just pick up where you left off, there is a lot of feel and momentum involved. Repetition is big as well, hockey players are superstitious and when you change a routine it affects guys. I don't think anyone believes they will have a let down but I wouldn't expect a blow out this weekend. Robert morris played two games last weekend so IMO they have the edge on Miami and I believe there will be two close games this weekend. Lets just see how things play out, Miami is very talented and should handled a lot of teams in the second half but they will get everyones A game and if you have a slightest let down you will get exploited. I look forward to watching the challenge ahead of them and hope to be in Detroit at the end of the year in april!

I guess Palmieri still hasn't learned you can't run the opposing goaltender. He just gave Canada all kinds of momentum and now we're in OT.

yea that was bone head, but boy did this team show character and heart after blowing another 2 goal lead late to the canadians. What a shot in ot by John Carlson who played under Coach Blashill last year in Indiana. Great effort and performance by a bunch of college kids. The college players were the standouts in this tourny and proves that college isn't far behind major juniors.

Agreed! I'll take gold any day!

FWIW, I believe John Carlson only played at USHL Indiana in 2006-07 and 2007-08 while he was verbally committed to UMass-Amherst. Then in the summer of 2008, the OHL's London Knights lured Carlson to the OHL for a year during the 08-09 season. I think Blashill only joined Indiana for the 2008-09 season.

I knew that, too, but I've learned not to try to correct RHM. :)

My apologies '08 if you really thought I was lecturing you (that's what those smilies are for and I reserve my real lectures only for rhm :)). I guess I should be happy--someone finally took me seriously. All in good fun and I am (we're) just worried about karma. But, I am re-thinking everything because I agree with just about all of what rhm said. :) And, oh, did I mention there is a long way to go.... :D

thanks for the correction, thought he was there last year. :D

Haha, well I learn from the best! And I have gotten wiser in my older age. Plus you have earned the right to lecture me, since you have known me since I was slidding around in buckets at the old goggin!

With all that said, you are the level head for our fan base. Its almost your obligation to bring anyone down from cloud 9 for strays off bath a little bit. '08 will be ok and just has to come to terms with it! :D He is still realtively new and is feeling more comfortable which is good but comes with consequences. We all still enjoy him and glad he's here, but it comes with the territory! :D

http://insidecollegehockey.com/inch/2010/01/04/newsmakers-for-2010/

check out that link. INCH.com did a piece on the 9 potential news makers in 2010. Tom Anastos the CCHA commissioner is mentioned as is Tommy Wingles. Nice little paragraph on Wingles getting some nice pub from some well respected writers.

Thanks for the reminder. I had been meaning to read that when I first saw it posted at MHT. Let's hope they are correct.

Reading that, I couldn't help but think Ron Rolston would make a good fit, hate to say it, at Ohio State. Thoughts?

He would be, but would he make that move this year? It would be tough for markel to get a new deal after this year. He seems to have a good thing going in ann arbor, so this may not be a good time for that job to open up if you want him. There are a lot of other good canidates out there, one being a former Miami assistant.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

Hockey has finally returned to our fair college (be it a few hours away in Pittsburgh)! I cannot wait. It's not online, but beggars can't be choosers, right?

BTW - eagle, you were right. I will keep my nose down, pressed firmly to the grindstone along with the team. My 'Dear Santa' wishlist got me a little excited about the potential of this team. But then again, we all know what what potential minus dedication get you - jack (and not much else).

Big props to Team USA and Team Canada for giving us a great couple of games.

Does anyone have a phonetic spelling for Coach Blais? I have no idea how to say his name.

But let's go out and shut down this Robert Morris team. If we can get up and at'em in the 1st, I like our chances tonight. It looks like they've been looking at this game for a while - hosting the #1 team is always a big deal no matter who you are. If we can stay sharp and weather the storm through the first 10-15 minutes, we should be fine.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

'08 I believe Blais is like "blaze". Yea, I really wish more people south of he border could have seen those two US/Canada games. I read somewhere that 40% north of the border were tuned in to at least part of the game. I think that's better than the super bowl down here.

Nice job again '95 and the second half data are interesting. I know we often talk about the swoon. Counting ties as one-half of a win and if my arithmetic is correct, Coach Blasi's winning percentage overall is about .575 and using '95's second half numbers the second half percentage is .535. Of course the overall data include the second half, so the difference is bigger if you compare first to second (unless I am missing something). A difference for sure, but if you factor in that most of the OOC games are in the first half, and until this year the OOC schedule was not that difficult, the difference may not be as great as we think. Don't have time now, but it might be interesting to look at first half league games versus second half league games. What got me thinking of this is that Miami before Coach Blasi always seemed to have difficulty in the second half (at least with Mazz), but I have not checked the data. When I retire, I'll be able to do all this stuff. :)

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

Someone on MHT pointed this out, that the preliminary hobey voting is up again.
http://www.hobeybaker.com/voting/

Interesting that the #1 goalie in the country in GAA, #2 in Sv Percentage, #2 in shutouts, and #1 in win percentage, is not listed. (All of those are Reichard obviously).

Oh yeah, no miami players listed, but there are plenty of scrubs on there.

Well said, those two US-Canada games were remarkable. Im going to say this as a fair warning. Don't expect to much this weekend and don't read into too much either. These two games will be tough for Miami. Taking a month off is tough on anyone, its almost as if you need to start over. Tonights game Miami will be doing a lot of feeling out. Robert Morris has two games under their belt and have been pointing to these two games since summer. If Miami wins 2-1 or 3-2 thats ok. If they blow them out then this team is far more advanced than I thought. But even the great teams struggle after long lay offs and Miami has a longer lay off than any other team in the country. They should still beat Robert Morris twice because they just have superior talent but IMO I think they will be closer games than should would think/want.

First post in a while is up at Jackets Required and MU RedHawks Hockey.

Hope you enjoy it!

'95 nice work! was looking around the blog and I know you work with the guy so maybe you can pass it along. He has the link to Gacek's team wrong and he has Mullin listed as a 2011 recruit when he is a 2010. Just a couple minor things, good work on the blog though!

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

Well that should end all fears of a prolonged Rico Swoon! Oh wait...

Did not get to see the game so I'm curious to hear what went wrong tonight. Looks like RMU tallied a shorty at the end of the first.
