Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

jd- read my last posts carefully. And choose your words carefully, some aren't children and have been around longer.

So before you put words in my mouth, read carefully. I have said all along I think they will be better, but im not ready to put them on a pedistool like you and crown them champs. You said it yourself that they played uninspired at times so until we see that change what other body of work do we have to go off of?

The only time a single championship was mentioned was when you said that about the CCHA tourney, other than that at no point did I ever mention winning a trophy of any sort. In fact, if you again look back, as you so kindly suggest, you'll see that the only success I mention is that of winning the first game in the NCAA tourney, and at least having a close game in the second round. Hell, even Blasi agrees that this team learned a hell of a lot last year, I find it surprising that of you're such elderly age as you proclaim, that you can't figure out that experience typically correlates with success.

Here's what Blasi has to say;
"Overall, we like what we have in the locker room," Head Coach Rico Blasi said. "Up front, we have good chemistry and we have the right guys in the right spots. This is a good veteran group and we added some quality freshmen. It is just a matter of getting the right line combinations and getting everyone working together.
"As far as the defense goes, we have almost everybody back," Blasi continued. "We had a very young group last year and they gained some valuable experience last year. The new guys are gonna fight and have the talent to play at this level."

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

Looks like Alec Martinez has stuck with the LA Kings.

http://kings.nhl.com/club/roster.htm

Congrats to Alec. Hope he stays in the show.

I saw that. I just hope that for Alec's sake when O'Donnell (I believe) comes off his 2-game suspension that he won't be relegated to the 7th defenseman. It would probably be better for his development to be playing regularly than practicing and being scratched on a consistent basis. But, who knows? Maybe he's solidly in the top 6. Either way, to be on an NHL opening night roster has to be a thrill for him.

In other Kings news, Zatkoff seems to be buried on their depth chart behind Quick, Ersberg and maybe even Bernier. However, I do believe he'll start the year at Manchester and apparently Bernier is a basket case. Z could get the majority of games, especially if he gets off to a good start.

Here's what Blasi has to say;

And what he said is true, they did gain valuable experience and are better than they were last year. But they are still young and have room for improvement. The fact that they made the run and got a ton more practice time was huge for this team this year and they have a leg up on other teams. With that said, it doesn't meant they don't have a lot to prove because they do. They played great in the first half of the season and then bottomed out and played great in the NCAA's, so they were a rollercoaster ride.

I think they will be a good team, I think they have a chance to make a deep run. All I am saying is lets be realistic here and not get over optimistic. I think we need to be cautiously optimistic and see what happens on the ice before we go nuts over this team.

Of course coach Blasi is going to say those things in the media but if you got him behind closed doors I gurantee you he would tell you there is a lot of room for improvement and that they aren't there yet.

Great news for Alec!

As for Zatkoff, I think all of us saw this potential problem coming which is why it still doesn't make sense that he left early. Hine sight is always 20/20 but if he doesn't leave Reichard doesn't come here so take the good with the bad.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

rhm, Reichard would still be here, but Knapp would have had another year of junior. That was Plan A, Plan B was Knapp comes as an 18 year old with Reichard). Remember how we were saying the coaches had that set up nicely no matter which way Zatkoff went. Reichard would not have played much if Zatkoff had stayed, but Miami still would have had both Knapp and Reichard this year.

Your right, because we would of had the same situationn as effinger and zatkoff. Thanks for the correction, I just remember Cody signing late and didn't think back to the situation. :D

Boy what great additions to the arena they made in the offseason. Would love to have everyones opinion but the new wall of fame is great and the posters in the lobby are terrific. Overall great job by the coaches and athletic department on the additions made.

Can't wait to see it on Friday night! Here we go!

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

Didn't see the game, checked score updates on the phone though.

#1) Glad to see Reilly making an immediate impact out there already.

#2) Also glad to see that Trent and Knapp are apparently both well enough to play after their summer question mark injuries.

#3) No Assistant captains

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

I never know what to make of these games, but it was fun to be at the rink again. The additions to the rink are nice, and there is a Mitch Korn display/tribute in the hallway between the rinks that also has been added.

The good news, and all JMHO, was they had some jump early, Hartman looked pretty good to me, R. Smith looks like he can shoot it and handle it, Hirschfeld had a *lot* of jump, Schilling was very active in both ends, Miami generally had good pace the first two periods, and Reichard looked pretty good. The questions marks for me were Smith's skating looks behind the rest of his game, too many good chances allowed against a team like Windsor, despite having several (three or four?) five on threes, I believe the 'Hawks managed to be -1 on 5x3s, , Miami had the usual for lots of missed nets and hitting the goalie in the mid-section, too much dangling with the puck for my taste, the usual number of missed passes for an early game, and Miami was outplayed in the third.

Most of those things mean nothing in the long run (coming from me anyway :)), but Miami did not seem as tight defensively and Knapp looked...I'm not sure how to describe it... lethargic might be the word. McKenzie was ok and I think he has a little jam. I think we need to remember that Smith and McKenzie are 18 year olds and they will need to grow into it.

By the way, anyone remember Miami giving up a two-man advantage goal? The last one I remember was '90/'91 (Rico's freshman year) against Michigan, but it was off a faceoff after Miami iced it with the two-man advantage. Nice work by the Windsor guy to get out and create the 2x1, and then a sweet pass and redirect.

What I missed most was a couple of Roeder hits sprinkled in. I guess we'll not see anything quite like that again.

No maybe no hits like roeder, but with Weber and Hartman and the size and strength they posses we could see something similar.

Wasn't at the game, but looking at the box scorer im with JD its great to see Reily get started with two points out of the box. Glad to see your comment about Hirschfeld because when I saw his production I thought to myself if he has improved to become a impact player it adds another huge dynamic to this team.

Im hoping knapps play isnt indicative of him being upset by not getting the start. I also don't like the SH goal, for me it seems like that has been happening a lot lately.

Thanks for the breakdown Redeagle, we can be thankful we aren't UMass or RPI who lost and tied respectively to Canadian colleges saturday night  .

One thing to keep in mind is this team really hasn't had a full week of practice with the coaching staff. There seems to be a lot on tape for the coaches to work with during this week in practice and some of those wrinkles will be worked out.

5 days away from game 1! :D

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

ok going to keep most of the talk over here this week, too many children over on the other thread who want to get knit picky about an abbreviation.

So any thoughts, concerns, excitement? 4 days away...

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

I have faith in a sweep this weekend, but SCSU is bringing in what is arguably the top tandem forwards in the WCHA with Roe and Lasch, so hopefully our boys are up to the task. After hearing of how the D played this weekend, and given that they get to practice every day with one of the best forward cores in the country, I think we shouldn't be too overwhelmed on the back end. These games I think are gonna be fast paced, hard hitting.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

RHM,

I didn't mean a **** thing about the "St" thing. In fact, I didn't even look back to see who made the mistake. Its not a touchy subject with any of us, or at least nobody that I know of. Hell, we're happy when people put St. Cloud correctly in the state of Minnesota. Sounds like you just ran into the Grammar Police. :D

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

RHM, I don't put much stock in losses by RPI and UMass in exhibition games. If I were you, I wouldn't bang that drum loudly. That said, Ohio State lost to Western Ontario which I just think is funny but I don't know if it means much...

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

Recall Miami scoring with about 5 seconds to go to pull out a win against Windsor last year. It didn't mean much. :)

Normally I wouldn't but with the comments those two clowns made previously and how much of an *** they were being I had to throw that out there. To me it doesn't mean anything besides being embarrasing. But since they were being extremely nit picky about the title I had so I got nit picky with their teams play lol.
