Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

You must be thinking of the 5th goal, the one tipped through the 5 hole. Only soft one he gave up all night. The other 4 he was hung out to dry. The 4th goal two guys were left back door not his fault. Cody has been your defacto #1 all year so not surprised at all to see him out there. It had nothing to do with him being nominated for the hobey at all, it has a lot to do with the fact that he has been extremely solid all year. However I think his confidence is shot and its time to give knapp the reigns.

I second the fact that the announcers was brutal. Beezer sounded like he hadn't seen Miami play all year.

I'm pretty sure it was the fourth goal, but maybe I'm mistaken. I thought there were a couple times he deflected the shot in the wrong place, I know one of them caused one of the goals.

I was actually really suprised to be him out there because of the way he has been playing the past couple weeks. Of course our defense hung him out to dry on a bunch of those goals.

And yeah the announcers sucked. Of course pulling for the homers. I think they made me more PO-ed than I was.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

Now you know why Ohio State fans at the anouncement of one minute left in the period all yell " And Michigan still s**ks!" I thought the officiating was very inconsistant. They'd call one thing and let ten others go. I think Miami should have had 2 penalty shots but only got the standard power play. I wasn't surprised as I knew Wilkins would favor Michigan.

Well we had some problems with Wilkins last weekend when he reffed for the OSU game. It's whatever. We took some really bad penalties, and of course the refs called some really bad Michigan dives. We need to work on that before next weekend.

Nah it was the fifth, mute point anyways. He played fine tonight, except for that last tip in goal. The 4 on 1 wasn't his fault. 1st goal got deflected and wasn't his fault. Third goal he had no chance on. Guys just didn't play well in front of him. But I think it's time to change things up and let Connor go.

Also I wouldn't respond to buckeye troll, all they know how to do is complain about officials. Wilkins was fine last weekend and fine tonight. Unless you can go out there and do it yourself ( which no one here can ) you shouldn't complain about officials. They wanted to let the guys play and called what was absolutely necessary. Miami got away with a lot as did Michigan. Had no barring on the outcome, Miami flat out got out played.

Meh...there's always some calls that I don't agree with, and some not calls that I don't agree with. Of course there's refs that I hate, however I won't name them. Most of the calls they made tonight that of course I agreed with, but some when they showed the replay I was left scratching my head.

Your going to have that in every sport. I see what your saying though. I always tell people if your going to ***** about it, go out and do it yourself. Some try and never complain again. People get lost sometimes at how fast the game is and the rule book leaves for a lot of subjectivity. Its the way it is, and its never going to change.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

One of the worst games I've ever seen a Miami team play. Very disappointed. I really hope they bring more to the big dance than what they showed tonight, otherwise it will be a quick exit to the golf course.

OTOH, as much as I hate to say it, Michigan played like champions tonight. Most of the game it seemed like Michigan had 7 men on the ice.

Talk about some "what have you done for me lately" fans...the kid wins CCHA MVP and is a Hobey candidate and folks ready to kick him to the curb...Miami is not where they are this season without him...

He has been fighting the puck for the last month, not just his performance yesterday.

Connor is more than capable, and it is time to mix things up. Change of pace, seems to have worked for Michigan.

Connor got Miami to a top 4 finish mostly last year, and was yanked in favor of cody in the tourny. What is the difference? Isn't any, when you have two capable guys you have the luxury of not having to let a kid work it out. No harm in it, not taking anything away from cody but he isn't playing as well as connor its as simple as that.

And who is to say Connor couldn't of gotten this team to where they are now? I can't say that and you can't either.

Only thing to say about the game last night. A teams alumni shouldn't be able to ref his own team in a championship game. We were playing shorthanded the entire night with shegos on the ice. Three times we had someone past the last defenceman and he gets tackled and no penalty called. He didn't even give us a chance. They had all the puck luck last night and we had a game of crossbars and rebounds just sitting in the crease.

Hopefully he refs our game today so he can't do the Michigan one tonight. Go wildcats.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

Great game by Michigan and pretty disappointing play by Miami. One thing we can learn or have reinforced from this is how much of a team thing goaltending is. UM made Hunwick's job pretty easy; Miami made Reichard's difficult. A few things really bothered/worried me. One was the lack of jump/passion for MU after the first five minutes. It's always easier from the stands or couch, I know, but UM seemed so much hungrier for everything after Miami's initial flurry. The other is Miami's inability to get the red line the last three games. Teams are not giving Miami the red line, the 'Hawks are not getting the zone with any speed and because they can't get the red line, they can't even dump with any effectiveness. They currently seem reduced to Miele, Camper, or Palmer dangling through someoneto get a chance or draw a penalty.

Oh well today is a new day and we are still playing. :p

I wonder if rhm is now rethinking his Michigan prognosis. :D

And Miami must be doing something right if they are turning a few OSU fans into UM fans. We got that goin' for us, which is nice. ;)

Okay, I'm done pouting over last nights game. I find it interesting that the three top ranked teams in the nation are playing in consulation games today. That makes me feel a little better. Tournament play is cool, as unpredictable as it is. I hope Rico and co. take this lesson with them to Ft. Wayne (and hopefully back to Detroit).

Point is that it would not have mattered who was in goal for Miami last night, the team played terrible hockey in front of him. Anyone putting the blame on Cody for that loss has no clue about goaltending. And I would have the same reaction if it were Connor in net last night and the same thing happened.

They are both very good goalies, would both be #1s at most other schools, but fact is, early in the season Cody took the opportunity and never gave Connor the chance to earn #1 away from him...and while we will never know if Connor could have had the same results this season, fact remains that Cody carried his team to wins they had no business winning...he's earned the coach's respect and opportunity...

As far as Michigan changing it up, that's something desparate teams do...

Miami was called for penalties because Michigan was crashing the net and going hard all night. And don't think that had anything to do with Shegos.

Don't go there, JD, thats a cop out. Shegoes is the best official in the league and they had no impact on the game. Don't make excuses we just got spanked.

I am now, but was right about them during the year. :p

To your point about not getting the red line, I noticed this a lot last night. That would be that Miami has a bad tendancy to stop moving their feet through the neutral zone or when they get any kind of pressure. That was the difference that I noticed mainly last night was Michigan never stopped moving their feet and Miami rarely moved theirs.

I know I didn't blame cody for last night, and I don't think anyone else here did either. But I do believe we see Connor today and it might be time to make the change. When you have another guy that is just as capable sometimes making a simple change can re-energize a team, you know that. Doesn't make anything cody has accomplished any less but he has been fighting the puck lately thats a fact. Cody doesn't seem to be playing with the same confidence he had earlier in the year, it is what it is.

Miami just plain got beat and Blasi acted like an A-- on the bench as always he treats the players like crap :( :(
