Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

The attendance would look like they showed up, but I tell you that it is pretty empty for that early game. It just doesn't work out for most people who work on Friday and don't want to take the day off.

No you are right, I have been to several early games and the crowd isn't the same as the late game. With that said, the crowd shouldn't be an issue. Miami has played in several hostile environtments over the last two years. And Friday at the Joe won't be worse than their two game set at the Yost earlier in the year. The move in merely for TV purposes, and it should be. Mainly because the Big 10 network probably doesn't want to show two non big 10 schools....

They weren't on it, their judgement doesn't matter by looking at it. Ice was great, wasn't a problem. If you want to use that as an excuse go for it. Like I said I was on it in the afternoon and it was fine. Ice is kept a certain way and that is controlled by the head coach. He wants it a certain way and that is the way it is.

Your opinion on the ice quality is based on what professional or life experience? Someone who played in the pros on the ice of every NHL arena is quite capable of telling the quality of the ice without being on it. To say otherwise is a statement of ignorance. It degraded much too quick and had too much puck bounce. Not professional quality! The physics of rink ice goes beyond the temp of the glycol you're pumping, it involves ambient temps and humidity levels kept in proper ratio. If the ratio is not maintained the ice suffers. I'm not saying your ice is always bad, but it certainly was last night, I think there were certain enviromental factors yesterday that the staff just couldn't compensate for. I think your counterpoint is based on pride for your home ice, not fact. Enrico would never say the quality of last nights ice is what he wants, he's a much better coach than that. It would be like a basketball coach having his team play with their shoelaces untied.

boooowhoooo, anymore excuses? Ice was fine, I have played on several NHL ice surfaces and played at a high level. I know the difference between good ice and really bad ice.

You said that its not the way it works. Actually there is no 'way it works.' It is up to the discretion of the commish. It can change from year to year. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

You're missing my implication which was to plant yet another "chip on our shoulder" conspiracy theory into the inner-workings of the Michigan-based CCHA.

That was my only point. It's usually much emptier for the early game for all those reasons.

Never said or implied it was an "excuse" and it affected both teams equally. I notice your "high level" interperts as "vague", not NHL. If I was upset about it I wouldn't have congratulated Miami and wished them well the rest of their season. :D

Enjoy the golf course, I don't feel the need to come on to a message board and brag about my experience like you feel you need to. Go somewhere else and brag away, or bug someone who actually cares....

To quote: boooowhoooo! Then if you don't feel the need then quit replying. LOL! Again, good luck to Miami on hopefully 2 trips to Detroit before the season ends. :)

I understand, Buckeye fan that you are, that your two favorite teams are always Ohio St. and whoever is playing Michigan. Thanks for the well wishes this weekend and beyond. I personally have been waiting for over 30 years for a Redskin/Redhawk national title.

The environment will be fine if Miami scores. Notre Dame was down last year and it didn't kill them. Just put some pucks in and 80% of the crowd noise will disappear.

Wonder if either of your assistants are applying at Ohio State for the opening? What are the Miami fans thoughts?

Could see Bergeron before Brekke only because I think Brekke might apply first to Western, his alma mater. Then again, Bergeron is a Miami alum. He might wait for another opportunity rather than make the jump to our in-state rival.

No doubt Brekke will apply to western. I don't think Berg would want a job like OSU. Not enough support from the administration and too big of a school. Also not sure if Berg is ready to leave Miami, meaning not sure he wants to leave. He has a great gig coaching a top tier program with his good buddy.

Agreed, but I think he'd look closely at OSU, if given the chance. He's making, what, $50,000 now? He'd triple his salary in a heartbeat. Taking care of your family has to come first.

True- but money isnt an issue. He was extremely smart financially with the pro contracts he had.

For those who will be up in Detroit, the MUAA and R&W Club just announced the official plans for this weekend's pre-game gatherings here.

MiamiAlum.org said:
MUAA and Red & White Club will host a pregame event on Friday, March 19 from 2:30-7 p.m., prior to the CCHA Semifinal Game at the Hockeytown Café in Detroit. Cost for the event is $10 per person (payable at the door) and will include wings and other snacks.

In the event of a win on Friday, this gathering will also take place on Saturday, March 20, 2010.

Outstanding! What time are you getting up there? We're probably leaving around noon but not exactly certain.
