Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

OK, for those of you who can't go to the game but want to watch it here is how to get it FREE!. When you go to Miami's athletic website at www.muredhawks.com and proceed to the hockey page you will see where you can click on the option of gametracker or watch. Click on watch and it will take you to CBS Sports (CSTV) where you can pay to view. It has a place to enter a promo code, you want to enter FREEMONTH09 and that should give it to you free, at least it worked for me with Saturday's game. One last thing, it will require you to have Microsoft Silverlight to watch and will give you the option of downloading it if you don't already have it. Hope it works for everyone. Enjoy! :D :D :D :D

Thanks, worked perfectly.

I'd send him Christmas cards every year if we got in the CCHA. The main reason I wanted in the CCHA was to have roadies where I could leave Friday morning first thing and still make the game [tOSU, Miami].

I know quite a few folks here in CCHA country who agree ;)

So who all is making the trip up to the D this weekend?

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

Very nice win tonight, the effort that they needed and should of had last night. For all but maybe the first 6 or 7 minutes of the third ( which I got a little worried) Miami controlled the game. Great to see Knapp play well, even though he wasn't tested at all. The lone bucks goal wasn't his fault, broked play and guys got lost. All in all a great effort and a well deserved victory. Your prize you ask? You get Michigan in round 1..... Probably one of the hottest teams in the country and one that is fighting to get into the NCAA tourny, so they will be hungry. Getting closer to the second championship, lets rest up and get ready its going to be a battle!!

Always good to see the Hawks win, of course, also good to see a lot of the students back. I think OSU played a great game tonight. At times I couldn't tell which team was the number 1 / 2 team in the nation, especially in the third period. Good clean game. Glad I could finally go and watch them again.

I agree RHM, a tall order next weekend for sure. A hungry Michigan team pretty much in their home town. But what a joy it would be for us to have knocked off OSU and Michigan in consecutive weekends.

Yale losing is an upset in regards to standings, not so much on the ice though. I called this one a week ago, Brown coming off a road series win against a decent RPI team, and Yale losing one of their only 2 good players by being a dumbass and goofing around at the pool after it was closed. Yale's defence is awful, and their goalies are even worse. Thankfully they'd be in our new bracket right now. Yes please.

Anddddddddddddddd...

Boom goes the dynamite.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

The buckeyes definitely put up a fight this weekend, lots of effort. I must say that is exactly what we needed, especially these past 2 nights. The loss Satuday didn't effect us at all in the PWR, as we're pretty much solid for #2 unless DU drops 2 at the Excel.

We got a couple very tight, very physical, dig down deep games these past two nights, and that can only help us this weekend and beyond.

Well its a mute point, but OSU didn't look good at all tonight. They were over matched from the drop of the puck. Minus the first 7 minutes of the third when they brought some pressure, finally, they were on their heels the whole night and couldn't get anything going through the neutral zone. Miami showed tonight why they are one of the top teams in the country. They came out and took care of business in a game that they needed. Took control of the game and for me it was never in doubt. Great effort all around and that is something that was nice to see.

The interesting thing is who gets the nod in net friday. Connor made some big saves at a key point in the early part of the third but he wasn't tested much tonight at all. Cody struggled in the first two games and you don't know where his confidence is at this point with connor getting the nod in game 3. I don't buy the 3 games in 3 nights arguement. Carlson went in a must win game, and this was a must win game. For my money Knapp is the guy from here on out, but can't go wrong either way.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

Does anyone know if Miami is for sure playing at 8 on Friday. USCHO seems to be the only site that has assigned time slots to the games so far (making plans for the trip up)

I got it that if DU loses to UND in the semi's and win the consolation we get #1 overall seed by winning the tourny....Tough test game one, michigan is playing really really well.

I would check the CCHA website tomorrow they will tell you for sure. They had it as Miami in the early game, but they have been know to move that around to get the better game in prime time for TV purposes.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

My son who happens to be a Miami alum went to the game (his first in the new Goggin) and told me he never saw ice so bad. It shaved badly so early in each period it looked like it had an inch of snow on it. Passes slowed down so much many were intercepted and the puck was bouncing everywhere. most of the players had an extremely hard time just keeping the puck on their sticks because of it. On one clear Miami did that went all the way down to Carlson it came in on him bouncing like a basketball! A shame such a great facility had terrible ice. Is it always like that? I mean it wasn't that warm outside and it wasn't a sellout crowd so what gives? Goggin's boards are really dead also, most of what hit them would have come back to the blue line at the Joe but didn't even make it back to the goal line there.
Regardless, congrats to Miami and do the CCHA proud in the NCAA's.

Ice wasn't bad at all....Skated on it earlier in the afternoon and it was great. Its one of the best surfaces in the league. They couldn't keep the puck on their stick for a lot of reasons and none were the ice. Passes were intercepted because there were a lot of bad passes and forced plays. Puck tends to bounce when you flip it in the air too. Ice had nothing to do with it, Ice temp is kept higher than most places because thats how they want it. They are a quick team and it slows down teams that aren't used to it. Nothing wrong with the ice, going to have to look elsewhere for an excuse. Unless you were skating on it, you can't make that assumption. As well nothing wrong with the boards, the joe has the liveliest boards of any arena in the NHL so that is a bad comparison.

I have to respectfully disagree about the ice quality. My other son went with his brother to the game and he had played in the NHL and both said it was rotten. I simply stand by his professional judgement. Of course the Joe's boards are lively but yours hardly rebound at all compared to most rinks.

I'm sure they'll try to put us there but hopefully Miami vetoes it. The #1 seed should not have to play the late game (regardless) just so Michigan can get a better home-ice advantage. It's not supposed to work that way.
