That's not the issue. It is whether the state can require a religious institution to do something they find morally abhorrent.

Why the f not? The state requires me to do things I find morally abhorrent.

Did I narrow it down to just catholics?

Actual religious institutions were already exempt from the mandate. Colleges/hospitals/other federally funded type deals are the ones who had to comply with federal law like every other non-religious version of those institutions. It's a case of them wanting to have their cake and eat it to.

But let's have more panels like this discuss women's health. Seeing as there are no qualified women to be brought into the talks.

Or how about the house oversight committee and their experts on all things vagina related.

Oh wait, I forgot, it's about religion not the women.

Re: Obama XXIII: The Muslin Anti-Christ Wages War on the forces of Christianity!

So when an agent of "the government" tells an elementary school child the perfectly appropriate lunch her mother made for her is insufficiently nutritious, and she must eat an alternative lunch, as provided by "the government," this is an example of "the government" NOT dictating "what people do with their lives?" Got it.

No system is perfect. But even in your handpicked case, kids getting a balanced meal every once in a while is not necessarily a bad thing. In the alternative case, only twinkees, donuts, candy bars and pop would be for sale as that's all kids would eat.

Re: Obama XXIII: The Muslin Anti-Christ Wages War on the forces of Christianity!

This is a simple one to solve. Lets have Republicans set up ballot initiatives in all 50 states making contraceptives illegal and banning health coverage from covering birth control. That way the voter can decide! Democracy in action. In fact so as not to waste money on a special election this vote can coincide with the Presidential election. So tell me righties (Old Pio, joecct, etc) what do you think of this plan?

Typical libtard arrogance. A balanced meal "every once in a while?" Only "twinkies, donuts, candy bars and pop would be for sale?" Where? In the cafeteria? That's utterly crazy. Charles Manson is innocent until proven guilty. But not moms packing lunches for kids. A study published within the last few weeks discovered that the rates of obesity at schools which sell only rutabegas and beet juice in their vending machines, and those that don't were essentially the same. Conclusion? The kids are buying what they want off campus. Perhaps we could expand the legions of government know it alls to include stores close to campuses.

Would we also get to vote on Obamacare? Up or down?

Yes, I am all for that debate and would welcome a referendum in each state. As a sweetener we could have it that any state that votes for repeal also earns the right to self fund their Medicare programs.

Give them some more time. This'll seem like peanuts to what they'll try to force down our throats down the road.

Every day I read this board proves over and over again that the South should have won the Civil War. It's pointless trying to keep this country together with how divided everyone is on the issues of the day.

In the alternative, we could just send His Transcriptlessness back to Chicago.

You obviously have no clue what almost happened in Virginia.

With Mittens or Sanitarium as your nominee, best of luck with that Old Pio.

Re: Obama XXIII: The Muslin Anti-Christ Wages War on the forces of Christianity!

I wouldn't worry about 2nd term deep-throating. Sure, we're witnessing some colossal stupidity from the GOP at the national level, but I doubt any major changes are in store for Congress.

I don't know about north/south but I hear from plenty of people who would gladly divide it by party...not sure what state becomes Indepent-ville but I hope it is warm.

Would California be the capital of Liberaltania? Things have worked out so well there, the perfect model.

Is Texas the capital of TeaPartyland? Lot's of guns, lots of god, not a lot of THEM.

Right, because cutting off one's nose to spite one's face is a great philosophy, especially for institutions which purportedly aim to aide mankind. Not sure it really speaks well of the institutions that they'd worsen the health care for every employee and student over a relatively minor issue.

Re: Obama XXIII: The Muslin Anti-Christ Wages War on the forces of Christianity!

I can't find the article at the moment, but I read something today that put the Republican agenda this way:

The Republicans realize that demographics are against them. They are the party of old, white men. That Republican core group is shrinking. The Democrats are the party of youth, women, and people of color. That group is growing as a percentage of the population, especially in some of the battleground states. If the Repubs don't win now, it will only get worse demographically for them.

On that basis, the Republicans know that in the long term they need a major policy make-over. It will take a long time to make that radical a change. And during that period, the Dems will be a majority and will essentially have free reign. Therefore, the Republicans know this is their last hurrah.

They are betting everything on getting out their base for this election, since if the average demographic turns out, they lose. This is why you see the appeal to the crazies, the racists, the birthers, the christo-fascists, etc. They will pull out every scare tactic they can to get voters to the polls. And they will do anything in their power to keep young voters and minorities from voting.

And what it comes down to is this: if the Repubs get in power in 2012, they will never be able to win again as they're currently constructed. Therefore, should they win, they will take the country as far backward as possible on both social and budget issues. The Democrats - who will inevitably get back into power - will then have to spend all of their time reversing the damage rather than furthering their agenda. By the time they fix things, the Republican policies will have evolved and become competitive again.

It sounds crazy but there's a hint on truth in there.

I had a similar thought. Look at Pat Buchanan. His latest screed got him fired at MSNBC, but it wasn't wrong, per se. The America that he values *is* almost gone. And in a generation or so, it will be. Sex and death are working together to undermine the cultural/ethnic heritage that Buchanan cares so deeply for. You can't beat death, and good luck taking on sex*.

Even his fellow conservatives are letting him down. There's a columnist from the Daily Caller who seems to have taken a fancy to MSNBC's new daytime host, Alex Wagner. Not that I can blame him. :o:D:rolleyes:
