Re: Obama XXII: Occupy the White House

Not sure of the details. But it seems odd that in an election year something that would be both overwhelmingly against public opinion and the tenents of the country would be voted through with such a majority. Somebody's rider.

I think you veto this...but there's risk that the GOP candidate spins this as being against US security.
It wasn't a rider, there was a big debate on it and everything. The problem is apparently in the way all the detention rules were written in the panic after 9/11. It all has to be completely rewritten to be, I dunno actually rational, and obviously this Congress isn't up to that. In the meantime, because the original package is so bad, you get consequences like this. Obama has pledged to veto it but, you guessed it, election year, and now the usual SOBs are gearing up to fake it as a security issue.

If I were Obama I'd veto it and call their bluff. If the GOP wants to bring national security, that crowds out economics by that much, and it's an issue Obama will win with all but the 29%ers.

Re: Obama XXII: Occupy the White House

Al Sharpton, while I'm sure he means well (in most cases), is one of the worst debaters on television. I don't know how this moron got his own TV show. He's just as bad as Ed.

Why can't we have more hosts like Lawrence O'Donnell?

Re: Obama XXII: Occupy the White House

On the supply side (the lobbyists) I think we need something analogous to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. It should be illegal for a company or industry group or union or church or foreign government or any other entity that's not an individual human being to contribute money in any way to an office-seeker or any other entity that gives money or provides some other partisan service (advertising, polling, etc) to an office-seeker (like a political party, a 527 group, etc). Make it a criminal offense for both the executives of the contributing entity and the office-seeker and make it automatically DQ the office-seeker from holding the office.

The problem is not our democratic system of government, it's the crowding out of the one-man-one-vote principle by the undemocratic one-dollar-one-vote principle.

Thanks for including unions.

This info was posted weeks ago in one of these threads:) No one cares, Obama can do whatever he wants, but when Bush does it, he should be impeached

I have no problem with impeaching Obama over that. None at all.

That guy's actually following the standard procedure -- his bread is buttered on both sides so he can't lose. (Of course so is Halliburton -- KBR was kissy kissy with Clinton).

No problem hauling the Obama administration into the courts over it -- unlike Solyndra, this looks like it could be something real. Prosecute Teapot Domes wherever you find them.

Have to agree with you there - Solyndra was never "real." ;)

Solar energy use by public utilities is modern snake oil, sold by shysters and bought by people who can't do math.
