Obama XX: Maybe We'll Even Talk About Obama

Re: Obama XX: Maybe We'll Even Talk About Obama

I'd feel pretty confident taking on Mirages in a sub sonic Yugoslavian built fighter. The very best of East Bloc technology.

Forty years old, too.

According to Wikipedia they bought 28 Mirages (6 F1AD, 16 F1ED and 6 F1DD) from France. All were grounded, 12 were contracted for refurbishment, 4 were returned to service, 2 of which have defected to Malta.

Add to this that France is one of the countries patrolling the NFZ and I don't think Qaddafi is going to get much in the way of vendor repair.

Basically they're an even match for Luxembourg (or, I guess now, Malta), and we're much more likely to be grounded by our own software glitches.

Why don't we just mandate everyone get five weeks of vacation, another two weeks of holidays, and a week of sick pay. Plus raise the minimum wage to $50k/hr. Progress.

Who's mandating? They have the right to form a union if they want, so let them.

Re: Obama XX: Maybe We'll Even Talk About Obama

The Romans had the right idea. If someone is willing to put on the uniform and fight for this country, they should become a citizen (if that's what they want). It doesn't matter who his parents were or where he was born, as far as I'm concerned he earned his citizenship 70 years ago.

Sounds like he should have been a citizen even before fighting in WW2. Of course back then people didn't scam the system every which way like now, with baby mills in El Paso, etc., so his parents forgetting was no big deal. Unfortunately things have changed.

Back then people scammed the system every bit as much as today, Bob. Human nature does not change.

The difference being that the "system" was not as large or as profitable to scam back then.

That's true, from the bottom. Of course, scamming off the system from the top has always been an excellent way to get even richer.

So we're really lamenting the democratization of fraud. :)

Re: Obama XX: Maybe We'll Even Talk About Obama

Which is why we have government.

Not sure what that has to do with whether human behavior was different back a century ago or something. Of course there is government, and we had it then and now, although back then it wasn't nearly as intrusive.

True enough. The elite have always F'ed over those below them. Now with our modern welfare society it's become profitable for the lazy to do more than their fair share of the screwing. Now it's just the poor stupid working fools who are getting screwed the worst.

LOL. You'd argue with a ham sandwich if it mentioned anything positive about government.

So jobs with the state are so awesome that you have to pay a premium to attract candidates to work in them. Makes sense.

That ham sandwich is just being lazy and taking up government cheese. The most producting thing it can do is be eaten before it goes moldy causing someone to get sick, sending them to the hospital without insurance further adding to our nation's health care cost crisis.

;)

You misunderstand things so badly sometimes that it's just downright hilarious. Jan Brewer is a fine head of government here in Arizona. There, you happy?:p

He's also got some Foxbats, but I'm not really confident about how they've been maintained, nor of the training for his pilots. Training is very expensive, and can be dangerous, too. We do more than anybody. Tom Clancy has talked about the (then) vaunted Soviet navy. How their idea of "training" was to send one of their Kirov class cruisers somehwere to drop anchor for several days. . .and do nothing. A similar US vessel would be engaging in elaborate drills and rehersals, coordinating with other ships. Speaking of the once feared Kirov class cruisers, Clancy also quoted a US attack submarine captain as saying when HE sees a Kirov, he sees a Navy Cross waiting to happen! Think of Scott Glenn in "Hunt for Red October." "If that bastich so much as twitches, I'll blow him straight to Mars."

As to ground forces, one guy had a good line. He suggested with a couple of armored personnel carriers, the Tallahassee PD could kick his butt.

You only like her because she hates government as much as you do. It's just more ironic in her case.

In Arizona, she's debatable...but think she would be terrible in Minnesota.

Up here, we aren't too excited about government overruling communities regarding school cirriculum...nor are we for saddling our police dept with costly diversions with the net result of damaging their communities relations. No she would be a bad fit in our..err...most states.

No, she just took over a mess left by someone I'm sure you love, Janet Napolitano, who kept introducing new spending programs, knowing full well state revenue was tanking and there'd be no money to pay for her programs. I'm glad she's gone, but a part of me wishes she'd had to stay here to clean up her mess instead of running off to Washington.

Not a big Janet fan, sorry. I hope she cleans it up. Tim Pawlenty came into office to clean up a big mess too, and just left a bigger one.
