Obama XVIII : Now with 100% more Gov't sponsored starvation

Re: Obama XVIII : Now with 100% more Gov't sponsored starvation

One of those issues like immigration where I just don't care either way. I always said to my righty friends that I'd trade them straight up, so to speak, unfettered gay marriage for whatever gun control or lack of it they wanted. It appears I am going to get my way, so AFAIC they can kill whatever they want as long as it aint my kid.

My next trade offer: they can have prayer in public schools back in (this helps atheists in their identity formation anyway, and gives them something useful to rebel against) if ID and Creationism and all those other frauds are banished from public school to the private Christian madrasses like Bob Jones.
I just meant, that I've never heard of someone trying to kill a deer with either of those calibers. Might be an interesting challenge though.

You do see people applying that discipline, though, and at times people even point out the flaws in an argument from their own "side." We are all, of course, on the same side -- you pull your oar, I'll pull mine, and we'll move forward rather than in a circle. Kumbaya. :)

that's a far to rare exception though to the usual rule around here. that's why it's rare to have any substantive sustained discussions on the more controversial subjects. look at Foxton following me around like a rabid dog, due to a discussion weeks ago where he'd attack and mock me and I chose not to encourage such behavior.

Here's an early look at the GOP 2012 contenders, though I'm not confident the eventual nominee is even mentioned.

Jonah got through a whole column without saying anything overtly hateful -- probably the first time in 3 years (and probably because he was only writing about Republicans). Bolton's "brilliant," eh? I suppose coming from a perspective where 24 is considered a documentary.

I thought 22 rifles were used for deer? (I did go to a range, once. I particularly enjoyed the Osama targets. Most satisfying.)

.223 high velocity maybe in some states. Usually .22 refers to a .22 rimfire cartridge which is low velocity and illegal to use on deer or other large game in most states, small game only for that one (although the .22 rimfire pistol has been used for close range murder on larger game by organized crime killers due to compact size and quiet report).

I think the main problem is emotional subjects will inevitably spiral down to the LCD.

A: Reasonable statement.

B: Reasonable statement.

X: Trolling statement.

A: Oh yeah? Well ef you.

X: No, ef you.

And... scene.

Here is what I always imagine X to look like (and act like, if you've seen the movie):

I wil admit that as soon as someone starts talking about weapons with this amount of knowledge and isn't overtly in the military or police, I get creeped out. ;)

yah, there's an aspect to it that by having so many kids raised and educated poorly, there's a lot less job competition for kids who are raised and educated well.

I had a guy tell me we'll be employed til we're 80 because there ain't many people behind us that can do math and complete a sentence...I'll post it in a minute but today the Army came out and said of the 25% of applicants who could pass the fitness, HS degree and no criminal charges filter, 30% couldn't pass the intelligence test. Passing, I believe, is getting, 30% of the questions right on the test. {heads off to find link}

edit: my bad, it was 25% failing

Love the quote from our secretary of education...he is troubled by the burden of the uneducated young people our education system produces...gee, who is responsible for doing something about that????

I honestly think I'm now a Herman Cain fan. All the rest are so underwhelming.

Gary Johnson baffles me. If you want to be involved in politics Gary, why not run for Senator from New Mexico, where you can actually be worthwhile? Why waste your time on this Presidential vanity project?

must be the fault of all those kids homeschooling or going to charter schools.

It's not important, but a .22 is nearly a toy; the next step up from a bb gun and suitable for squirrel hunting (a .22 features in that role, in fact, in "Winter's Bone" which is interesting inasmuch as it's illuminating about your personal favorite slice of humanity and as a regional dialect study but otherwise an overrated movie)
This annoys only me because I have that weird copyeditor's personality that loves/hates finding typos in printed books, and is often irked by the unrealistic assignments given the lowly .22 in fiction, and is especially annoyed when an illustrated flying bullet still has its casing attached. I mean, come on.
And while I'm at it, for the record, I'd like to point out to Jim Harrison, "Michigan's Greatest Living Writer", that no one in the history of fishing has ever had their thumb cut open by the dorsal fin of a speckled trout.

But it is also important to remember that a .22 CAN kill a human and that .22 long rifle round can travel up to a mile. In my kid's firearm safety training field trip the instructors made a point of shooting up various items like soda cans, etc,. to demonstrate what a .22 round can do.

Sorry, now back to the political ranting and truth stretching...

Re: Obama XVIII : Now with 100% more Gov't sponsored starvation

But seriously, there is a lot more lefties on this board than righties, and the lefties rant every bit as good at the righties. No need to explain the numbers flowing from that.

Well yeah, if you consider everyone left of President Bush II to be a lefty.

One doesn't have to be nate (sadly banned before his time) or MinnFan, or even you, to be a "righty." Seriously, Richard Nixon would be a lefty under the current GOP definition of "conservative."

and compared to the modern democrat Kennedy would have been a republican. ;)
