Re: Race Card!!!

"It will be up to each of you to make sure that the young people, African Americans, Latinos and women, who powered our victory in 2008 stand together once again..." - BHO

Nice to see he left out the other flavors.

Obama plays the race card when he needs the vote; Obama and Eric Holder are the utmost repulsive race-baiters in the modern era, less Rev. Wright/Al Sharpton.

"The new presidential candidate is not like those guys on the American money. He's got a funny name... oh, and did I mention he was black?" - BHO on the Campaign Trail in Pennsylvania.

Re: Obama XI: Turn And Face The Strange

How is it that you claim taxes are historically low

Not just the top marginal rate, although that is quite low historically. The tax burden for everybody has decreased in the last 30 years:

Source: CBO data,1979-2006

Change, Total effective federal tax rate, all quintiles: -1.5%
Change, Effective individual income tax rate, all quintiles: -1.9%

We do need data from 2007-2010, though IINM the marginal rate for all quintiles except the top has decreased under Obama.

30 years does not a history make. How did the taxes in the 70's compare to taxes in the 20's? or 1880's? If 1979 taxes were historically high, then a decrease from that wouldn't make today's historically low, it'd make them historically average.

Re: Obama XI: Turn And Face The Strange

How is it that you claim taxes are historically low - based on the top income tax rate? Because according to this, total tax revenue (which is what I'm talking about) is running in the high teens as a percentage of GDP, pretty much the same as it has since 1945, give or take a dot-com or real-estate boom here and there.

Don't forget - it's coming from a guy who refuses to subscribe to his own 2x2 option #3 (cut taxes and cut spending) - which, of course, makes the most sense.

Bill Maher makes a good point in this rant. Unless the teabaggers talk about cutting defense they aren't really serious about balancing the budget.

...unless you believe that's pretty much the only thing Congress and our Federal government should be appropriating money for.

...and I do love it so when lefties use Comedy Central as their news source.

we are in the position we are today because of that very thing.

Whatever delusions help you sleep at night.

Certainly it would, but as you go back you also lose context to the point where you're talking about a different world. Taxation is likely higher than in the 1880's, before the income tax, but then again horse theft is down.

Re: Obama XI: Turn And Face The Strange

In the interests of honest disclosure, this is Doug Casey's independent and considered response to the Obama Administration.
No doubt that Casey is an opinionated guy. He didn't write the VAT article in the Casey Research link however; one of his employees did, and it was based upon a WSJ article that had just run the prior week and is embedded in the Casey Research article.

In the link you provided, Bush took a bigger hit than Obama. Casey actually said very little specifically about the Obama administration. He just isn't a fan of government period, especially big government.

Anyway you look at it, a VAT would be a huge tax increase to support out of control government spending. We don't need a VAT. We need to rein in government spending.
