Obama 7 - now what?

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

If by waxed you mean NJ is too close to call, CA-10 went blue, and the ME and WA gay rights referenda look like they are going to go against the homophobes...

Not really.

NYT with 37% in (most of any reporting), has overturning the law up by 37 votes. That is bad news, most of the bigger (liberal) cities have reported. Portland was huge for no, Bangor slight no lead. Lewiston big for yes (heavily Catholic and Muslim).

Suprisingly, the marijuana referendum is up HUGE.

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

There's a place in Maine that's heavily Muslim? Really? To be fair, between 9 and 11 most of the results seem to have gone downhill for the Dems.

The "what will we be talking about tomorrow?" segment on The Daily Show tonight was absolutely hilarious.

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

Boy the media is sure playing this one up for the GOP. A couple of races where things favor the Republicans anyways...and a large number of outlets are blowing the implications waay out of proportion.

A few years ago the mayor of Lewiston earned national attention when he wrote a letter to community members asking them to stop coming. Throwing a pig's head into a church was a nice touch, too.

WCSH says Question One is too close to call, with Yes ahead by less than 300 votes with 38% reporting.

Somali refugees. Don't get me started, their community leaders are on record saying that they are only in Maine until they bleed it dry of community services and then plan to move on.

There's a 10,000 vote difference with 60% reported, mostly rural districts left. It's over.

You are going to see a lot of anti-Obama backlash on this one in the next few days. Even before the vote there were whispers that he was doing absolutely nothing to help.

I almost can't wait for '10 and '12 so I can watch Kepler have another breakdown, a la 2004. So distraught, he vanished for quite some time. :D

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

Whoa, the opposition party won the VA governorship! That almost never happens (except every race for the last 30 years), it's clearly a sign Obama win lose 2012 in a landslide!

Is bigfoot still riding around on that unicorn in your pad?

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

Dialing back a bit, the BDN numbers are not including Portland, the largest city, that voted No by over 70%.

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

The bigot vote is winning in Maine.

At least that's not a question of whether, but when. Homophobia is going to go like anti-Catholicism, anti-Semitism, sexism and racism -- it will have to literally die off. In 20 years only a few backwater cesspools will be left.

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

Those are strong words, you mean, little lefty.

I'm probably significantly more conservative than you on several issues. But on bigot issues like race and gender and sexual orientation you're probably right, I'm leftist (aka cultured and open minded). :)

Now go back to your cave, bigot.

But marijuana is passing in a landslide.

Well, baby steps.

The Marijuana thing is not surprising since we already have legalized medicinal marijuana a long time ago, so most people don't think this change is a big deal. It looks like the bigots are going to win and take away the rights of others (disgusting). This will certainly end up before the state supreme court, or else the legislature will pass another marriage equality law, and we'll end up here again. We can only hope people will open their minds or more bigots will die off before we vote again... These morons are on the wrong side of history here    I wish I could wipe entire Maine towns and all of the backwards hicks that inhabit them off the map. They are ruining my state.

The federal government needs to just legalized gay marriage. The presidents/congressman are afraid of the political fallout so they leave it to the states which are in the same boat and then they put it to a vote...and we've clearly seen that in general the American people are far to ignorant to make the right decision on this. Its disgusting...especially in a state like Arizona that is so republican, that it is damaging to the youth.
