Obama 7 - now what?

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

Switching gears, I find it amusing that conservatives still blame minority lending for the housing crisis. The problem was 1) overbuilding and 2) cheap credit to ALL borrowers, not just fake income and documentation to minorities. As this has been disproven countless times already, one has to wonder about the racial attitudes of a person who continues to spew this bile.

!

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

Where does this say anything about conservatives wanting to do away with minority lending? I don't think they want to do away with it any more than they want Roe v Wade to be overturned. They just want to use it to scapegoat a certain segment of people who don't tend to vote for them.

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

1) overbuilding

why is overbuilding a problem? Over building is only a financial problem if you only think that increasing supply somehow meant people weren't paying nearly as much as they could be or that some how they were enticing people to buy homes.

What's enticed people to buy homes is the false perception that they were affordable. Just because you hate sprawl and development doesn't mean that is what is at fault.

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

I only saw one Yes on One ad and it was horrible, what was the No on One campaign doing?

They paraded people who claim that folks should be able to do what they want, yet their is a medical marijuana bill on the ballot that is sure to be rejected. All those Liberatarians when it comes to gay marriage suddenly turn when it comes to anything else.

Ah lame, I'm libertarian for marijuana and gay marriage.

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

It's suppose to bring in tons of revenue for the state. You looking for place to get married?

And it will.

If no on 1 wins, think of all the outside money that will flood back into the state to support round XVII of this fight.

Seriously, with all the job problems in the state, the precarious situation of the university, and probably dozens of other issues that I don't hear about now that I'm away (declining fisheries?), this is what gets people upset?

That stuff isn't rammed down your throat 24/7, probably should be as its far more important than who is going to get divorced, I mean married:D

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

Well the same thing could be said about medicinal marijuana. People still care about preventing people from having it even in this country's current situation.

If no passes, you should take the BAR in Maine, probably lots of work for divorce attorney in a few years:D

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

It was about a page back - I'm sure you can find it. Someone said that as a loan officer, he isn't allowed to refuse a loan application to anyone that asks for one, regardless of their financial situation. The borrower's lack of discretion therefore had a lot to do with the mortgage crisis, since they had all the power to refrain from borrowing.
Your response was that according to conservatives, "minority lending" is to blame. I questioned your equation with the first comment.

US housing market was $12Trillion... and probally about 50% of that was overpriced and wrote in the 2003-2007 period so maybe $3-5trillion was crap. Derivatives market was based on these "assets" and were much bigger and it was this leverage that that bit everyone in the butt... not the actual decline in the house prices.

And I love how the investment bankers blame the rating agency for all the AAA on the junk even as they were paying them off to do so... I guess they didn't have to take the "bribe" and rate the subprime as prime. So bankers blame the rating agency for taking bribes, blame the subprime borrowers for borrowing even as more exotic option ARM become "affordable", blame the stupid institutional investors for buyin up the $1trillion CDO market because they believed the AAA ratings and didn't do their homework, and blame the insurance companies and others for taking the wrong side of the bet on the $600Trillion CDS market... which made the leverage possible.

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

Obama isn't going to last long. 2009 elections and ALL the Democrats are getting waxed.

Who's going to replace them?
I don't see anyone out there other than Ron Paul talking about fairness and accountability. The Republicans look like bought boys and girls on the strings of business interest especially the bankers and the Democrats looks like they on a spending spree with abandon before their credit cards get taken away.

If by waxed you mean NJ is too close to call, CA-10 went blue, and the ME and WA gay rights referenda look like they are going to go against the homophobes...
