Obama 7 - now what?

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

I believe that Obama is a natural-born citizen.

That said, he should put it all to rest by unsealing his records--academic and otherwise.

Okay, what if he did? That certainly wouldn't stop this crowd. They'd just move the goalposts like fever swampers always do.

I disagree. Obama could allow the State of Hawaii to prove that Obama IS a natural-born citizen. Granted, I'm sure there would be a few people that would hang on to their conspiracy theories, but nothing like the number of people there are now.

Now the truthers, on the other hand.....it's hard to prove something that doesn't exist. For instance, we could argue whether or not DL has a love life, but then again, we'd be arguing about something that doesn't exist.

I'd just be nice to reduce the number of whack-jobs out there, but short of culling, we don't have any options.

Absolutely, release the documents. BO may have some personal reason for not wanting to put them out there, but I'm guessing it would help some.

However, we should recognize that True Believers are never disuaded by anything as prosaic as "evidence" or "facts."

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

IIRC its not up to him to release the documents. Its up to the state I believe.

Besides, what's the point? To appeal to a bunch of brain dead knuckledraggers? I hope this issue stays alive, such as it is, come Nov 2010. Given the split in the GOP right now, its going to be fun to watch "mainstream" Republican candidates try to straddle the line between the moderates and the lunatics on this one.

I know quite a few people that don't like the fact that he has every iota of his past sealed tighter than Denver's net last weekend. They don't necessarily DISLIKE Obama, but it's pretty tough to trust a guy with the oversight of your health care (soon), taxes and property rights when he won't show you so much as his first grade macaroni artwork, let alone his collegiate transcripts, theses or birth certificate.

But you are right. Even after seeing proof, some people will still doubt.

This issue isn't big enough anymore to affect the 2010.

Still: I wonder how bad his sealed grades are. Or how radically his college papers lean left.

Hey Rover, I see that one note symphony's coming along nicely. :)

So who's bringing this up again?

Maybe Obama is ashamed of his scores like Mccain was with his grade from the academy where he graduated at the bottom 1%. How about we make all future Presidential candidates to release all school records? And show birth certificate since some people just don't believe the official statements.

Mr. Obama displayed academic achievement at Harvard, where he graduated magna cum laude and led the Harvard Law Review. Still, Mr. Miller said, he would like to see information about how Mr. Obama performed in various subjects at Columbia.

A spokesman for the university, Brian Connolly, confirmed that Mr. Obama spent two years at Columbia College and graduated in 1983 with a major in political science. He did not receive honors, Mr. Connolly said, though specific information on his grades is sealed. A program from the 1983 graduation ceremony lists him as a graduate.

More is known about Mr. McCain's experience at the United States Naval Academy, where he was a self-described troublemaker and graduated in the bottom 1% of his class. The McCain campaign has declined to release his transcript, saying that his performance at the academy can only be viewed in the context of his larger military career.

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

Mea culpa. I "brought it up" in the sense that I linked an article about the judge throwing out the court case brought by that "birther" babe lawyer, which I thought was good news although not likely to end the matter. On those few occasions when I'm right, I sometimes hate it. This would be one. :(

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

So the theory goes that you can pump money into the economy in order to get it moving and then snatch the punch bowl by reducing the money supply (raise interest rates) once velocity starts to increase.

Personally, I would take the outcome of the economy since Obama took over at the beginning of March and the accompanying spending vs the alternative of having the govt walk away from the economy.

Again, the option has not been spending or a great economy...its been spending or all evidence led us to believe an April stock market crash and seizing up of the financial markets. In the long run, the economy is slated to grow to cover a decent amount of the deficit...if it doesn't, I hate to think what would have happened had the govt publically said we'll just let them all fail.

Balancing the budget is the whole trick, though. Deep, dollar-for-dollar cuts in HHS and the DOD and restoring the progressive tax structure of the Marxist Eisenhower 50's would be a good place to start. **** everybody off equally and you're doing something right.

Well, slashing the DOD budget certainly would tick off just about everyone: link.

Edit: oops. Link fixed.

Cut it in half, he accidentally pasted it twice.

Thanks.

The C-17 Globemaster offers one illustration of successful opposition to the Obama-Gates push for control of weapons spending. C-17s are large cargo planes produced by Boeing that cost $250 million apiece. They have been used heavily since 1993 to transport troops, tanks, and supplies. Every year since 2006, the Pentagon has said that it has enough C-17s. And every year, Congress overrules the military and authorizes funds for additional planes. In October the Senate approved $2.5 billion in the 2010 budget for 10 more C-17s, which would bring the fleet to 215.

"It's about political engineering," says Mandy Smithberger, a national security staff member of the Project on Government Oversight, a Washington nonprofit. "Companies design weapons systems to make them difficult to kill."

Our tax dollars at work.
