Obama 7 - now what?

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

Don't forget the picture of BO as the Joker. So, out of more than 300 million Americans, you've culled some unfortunate examples of bad taste at the least and racism at the worst. So what? What does that prove, other than you're willing to attribute the basest motives to millions of Americans who disagree with BO and you. Insufficient evidence, your witness.

C'mon, Pio! Don't you know that conservatives are all racists even though the overwhelming majority of us would rather not pay attention to race whatsoever? Because apparently WE'RE the ones that favor policies like hate crime legislation and affirmative action......

*slaps forehead* You're right, what was I thinking? Maybe I should spend some time in a "re-education camp."

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

General "Buck" Turgidson: Mr. President, we are rapidly approaching a moment of truth both for ourselves as human beings and for the life of our nation. Now, truth is not always a pleasant thing. But it is necessary now to make a choice, to choose between two admittedly regrettable, but nevertheless *distinguishable*, postwar environments: one where you got twenty million people killed, and the other where you got a hundred and fifty million people killed.
President Merkin Muffley: You're talking about mass murder, General, not war!
General "Buck" Turgidson: Mr. President, I'm not saying we wouldn't get our hair mussed. But I do say no more than ten to twenty million killed, tops. Uh, depending on the breaks.
President Merkin Muffley: I will not go down in history as the greatest mass-murderer since Adolf Hitler.
General "Buck" Turgidson: Perhaps it might be better, Mr. President, if you were more concerned with the American People than with your image in the history books.

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

"Mein fuhrer, I can walk!"

In the bombay of the B-52, the weapons are labeled: "nuclear warheads, handle with care" and have WWII style chalked messages on them.

And in the war room, Turgidson has a book in front of him labeled: "Nuclear casualties in mega-deaths"

Yes, I'm attributing it to some, I don't know how many.

You, on the other hand, just blithely dismissed even the possiblity of racism with the wave of a condescending hand.

There are all sorts of reasons why some of us support the president's agenda and others don't. And while racial animus doubtless plays a role in the minds of some people, there's no reliable way to quantify it. However, that didn't stop that doddering, mean spirited old fool Jimmy Carter from proclaiming the "vast proportion" of the opposition as based on race.

And millions of white moderates who voted for BO now evidently are having some doubts about Obamacare. What does that make them?

mouthbreathers... and if you get in back into line you won't be one of them and we can be best friends again.

And you seem to believe that people couldn't possibly be opposed to his policies. Using the same argument, liberals hated Bush solely for being a redneck Texan.

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

I'm not sure I understand that. For that matter, not certain I want to understand it.

sarcasm... and a bit of "we only like you as long as you agree with us". After all, you don't want to be one of them.

For such an inclusive bunch dems wield the tool of ostracism pretty well.

No, you can be opposed to his policies. But when you can't articulate why or what you are opposed to, and instead just wave pictures of Obama with a bone through his nose, and all the other stuff we've seen, I'd say there's something a little bit more going on.

And Bush wasn't a redneck Texan, he was a sissy-boy cheerleader from Connecticut playing cowboy dress-up.

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

I doubt Obama will fall for the race trap. Like he said several times it's a non-issue for him. Because of his race ... who raised him... where he was raised... opportunity he had... and immersion into the black-american culture because he wasnt' black enough or understood their problems in chicago.

"we are not black America" we are not white America.
we are not asian America we are not latino America.
We are the UNITED states of America.

1870s - emancipation proclamation
1970s - civil rights law
I'm thinking in another 50years or so we wouldn't need those laws or affirmitive action. Because all those old farts on both sides will be dead and wont have time to rile-up the flame of hate and bigotry.

That's what I meant when I brought it up. There are lots of people who have perfectly valid reasons for opposing Obama's policies (whatever they are -- it's hard to tell sometimes). And there are lots of people who have no idea why they oppose Obama. That's fine, too. It's a free country, and nobody needs to apologize for feeling the way they do. But to deny there's an element of Obama-hate that's fueled by race is just moronic. Of course there is. Just as there's race-based support for him. As Kepler pointed out pages ago.

Rufus believes in the First Amendment (he's evidently in a generous mood) but you've got to express yourself in the approved way, with arguments he determines to be relevant, otherwise you're a racist. And his proof is that somewhere out there some people actually ARE racists, and THEY disapprove of BO's policies, therefore anyone who disagrees with BO is a racist. He seems to have a problem differentiating between correlation and causation.

Your dates are a little off -

Emancipation Proclamation - 1862-63
Civil Rights Act - 1964

Thank you. You've proven my point. Name calling instead of dialogue.

But it's OK because it's Bush, right?

Sad that people of similar ilk are running the country right now.

You may consider Carter to be the voice of liberalism...but you're pretty much alone in that one. He's conducting a sideshow with the handful of rightwingers who are just that.

Even so,conservatives continue beating the race card to death crying about being a victim in order to gain sympathy. Get over it, nobody cares. The country is largely ignoring right not because they're racist...but rather because they failed this country over the last decade and no other reason.

Are you hearing those voices again? I didn't say anything even close to that pious old p***k being the "voice of liberalism." He is, however, a former POTUS and a Nobel Peace Prize Winner. Under normal circumstances, except when you're running for cover, he would be someone you'd proudly quote. So "only right wingers" (and a handful at that) are concerned about JC's smears? It's a good thing the rest of the country doesn't share your demanding sense of fair play.

Let me see if I understand fmm theorum II: complaining about being libeled and slandered is "playing the victim in order to get sympathy." Got it. Sort of "heads I win, tails you lose" isn't it? As to "nobody cares," it's obvious you don't. Try to remember your attitude here the next time somebody says something about liberals that gets you screaming like a middle school girl on a roller coaster.

I think most of us would gladly stop talking about race, particularly BO's, but it's really hard to do when he and his surrogates and friends keep bringing it up. And I find it breath taking that someone on your side of the equation would suggest that "nobody cares about race," given that the left is consumed by racial matters and playing the race card is de rigueur.
