Notre Dame leaves Hockey East for Big 10

Re: Notre Dame leaves Hockey East for Big 10

Well, UConn and a potted plant are about equivalent academically (joking aside, they simply don't fit the big ten academically).

wouldn't there need to be a NY school since the big10 is connected geographically by contiguous states?

Re: Notre Dame leaves Hockey East for Big 10

Hoceky East teams already play 12 non-conference games a season, there really is no need for another 2.

Sean

we didn't go west of union or msg this year. we could easily fit in 2 more. (though as stated, the hea flotsam would have issues)

Would the problem be solved if URI upgraded their program (Club.D-III) and joined HE?[/I]
After the experiences the league had with both Massachusetts joining as a brand new DI program and Merrimack joining as a DII upgrade to DI, I really don't think Hockey East wants to bring another brand new DI program into the league. I think the league will want to replace Notre Dame with another established DI program. The question is whether or not any school they invite accepts.

awwww - as a Q fan right now i feel like the prettiest girl at the dance. unless the Ivy league leaves first, i think Q will stay put for the time being. i posted this in a different thread:

As long as Lahey is president of the university, i dont see it happening. scuttlebutt is that he loves the association with the academic powerhouses of the ivies, and now that the level of hockey in the ECAC is much improved, there is less reason to leave. The selfish side of me would like more TV coverage/media coverage that comes with the HEA, but i think we will be in the ECAC for the foreseeable future.

The state of Connecticut would probably buy long island I'd that were the only thing between them and the big

I live on Long Island. People here do not care about college sports. They especially have no interest in college hockey. Rutgers, a BIG program, gets little print or TV in the metro area unless it is regarding one of their sports scandals. That coverage is quite prevalent .

Don't count Bentley out. We plan to break ground on the new rink in the next few months, completed and ready for the 2017-2018 season. Max French and Jayson Argue also have the potential to be top 5 players in the NCAA at their positions, and the rest of our team is relatively young. We also have top 5 scorers from both the BCHL and NAHL coming in for 2016-2017, Jonathan Desbiens and Ryner Gorowsky.
Could you link to articles about the new rink and upcoming ground breaking? Thanks

Good, none too soon on ND leaving. Never a fit and bad idea from the start.

Yes, but it's unlikely without a major donation. They built their arena back in the mid-00's in such a way that it could be expanded to be a D-1 rink (it's literally half finished - stands on one side and both ends with a scoreboard and a wall on the other side) very easily with a projected capacity of around 3,000-4,000. It's really nice, with a big foyer and good sightlines, but it needs expansion.

However, the state is in a bit of a financial crisis and has slashed a lot of funding for URI essentials already. There's no chance it could fund a brand new hockey program in its current shape. If a wealthy alum donated a few million dollars, this might be realistic, but right now it's pretty much impossible. It's too bad - URI is a perfect fit for HEA (New England state school) and has a natural rivalry with PC from their hotly-contested basketball series.

Imagine what they could build with all that money Curt Schilling stole.
