Notre Dame hockey off-season...beware the "I'ds" of March and other ponderings

A cool fact... ND has had a guy with ties to ND hockey hoist the Cup 3 years in a row. :)

And did you catch Quennville say it was Aldrich that alerted them first to the fact that it was indeed a goal? He said they were wondering just what had happened and before they announced officially it was a goal the coach said "our video guy said... Brad said it was a goal!"

Hopefully he hoisted the thing this time he was in the same building with it!

He said it in the on-ice interview and the post-game press conference. I believe either Ron McDonough, Jay Blunk or Rocky Wirtz (can't remember which bigwig...) also gave him a shout out in the on-ice interview.

In my wallpaper pic, you can clearly see him in the gathering around the Cup for the team pic. Oddly, Quenneville is not in the pic!

Maybe, now the Cup can come to South Bend since Coach Jackson basically gave Aldrich his first real video job (not counting that internship thing out west) and Mike McNeil is a Blackhawk alum! I doubt video guys get the Cup for more than an hour or so, though...

Re: Notre Dame hockey off-season...beware the "I'ds" of March and other ponderings

Out of sheer boredom, I've worked up a schedule for the upcoming season. Until one more CCHA team releases its schedule, some of this is educated guessing on my part. The known dates are in bold. The educated guesses in italics. If anyone has a more educated guess, feel free to alter this...

October:
8 Icebreaker Tourney vs. Holy Cross in St. Louis
10 Icebreaker Tourney vs. BU/UW in St. Louis
14-15 LSSU

22-23 ? (the only thing I can come up with is an OOC opponent at home although WMU is also available)
29-30 WMU (I'm guessing home Friday, away Saturday due to FB)

November:
5-6 @ BG
12-13 @ Michigan

19-20 MSU
26-27 @ NoDak

December:
3-4 @ Miami
10-11 NMU

January:
1 Shillelagh Tourney vs. Brown
2 Shillelagh Tourney vs. BU/MSU-Mankato
7-8 @ NMU
14-15 UA(F)

21-22 @ OSU
28-29 Miami

February:
4-5 bye (or maybe even the USNTDP boys)
11-12 BG
18-19 @ FSU
25-26 WMU
(again, I'm guessing away Friday, home Saturday)

104 days til start of the final season in the JACC gets underway.

There are still 4 remaining OOC mystery games. How about Boston College and UAH?

Teams are limited to 34 games in a season unless they play exempt games (games in Alaska, the Icebreaker, exhibition games with the USNDTP or the HOF game). ND gets to play 36 games because they have an exempt weekend, so that means they only get 2 OOC games or 2 and the USNDTP team.

My mistake, I thought it was 36 because I counted the two Ohio State games as part of the regular season.

Apparently, ND was in talks with NU to play (unless folks in the NU thread meant North Dakota), but NU wound up taking a $20,000 guarantee to play Niagara in Hartford instead.

Thus solving your conundrum.

I'm disappointed, I would definitely have come back up for that game/series. Even if I couldn't really root hard for either team, it would be nice to kill two birds with one stone and see both play at once.

Are you finished?! Are you in Texas? If so, congrats!

It'll be so weird to look across the rink and not see you standing up there or have you visit in between periods.

Not finished yet, and not in Texas yet, but really close on both counts. I'm hoping to have a draft of my thesis done by Friday (it remains to be seen just how rough it will be), and I'm driving down Saturday. Starting my job on Monday.

I'm aiming to come back for a football game, and I'd love for it to coincide with a hockey game too.

Brandon Sadd, the leading scorer from US - 18 team, who was offered a spot starting 1/1/2011 has gone major junior with Saginaw

In all the writings about Saad and ND recruits I've seen, there was never a connection mentioned between Saad and ND hockey.

Interesting to note in the latest UND.com article that Kyle Palmieri is still listed as a Notre Dame hockey player. No comment, just noting it.

This UND.com article lists Sheahan as a Notre Dame hockey player.

This UND.com article lists Sheahan as a Notre Dame hockey player.

Unless Riley Sheahan opts to move on, he won't be off the team permanently. Probably suspended for a weekend, yes, but kicked off, no. The consensus is that Kyle Palmieri is (likely) off the team permanently.

Brandon's brother was a freshman with Penn State this past season. In conversations with their dad about Brandon, there was never a mention of ND.
