Notre Dame Cathedral is burning down...

Re: Notre Dame Cathedral is burning down...

Looks like Rep. Omar managed to trigger the snowflakes with this Tweet yesterday:

Art and architecture have a unique ability to help us connect across our differences and bring people together in important ways. Thinking of the people of Paris and praying for every first responder trying to save this wonder.
— Ilhan Omar (@IlhanMN) April 15, 2019

Yes, but while she tweeted that she was being Muslim! She brought it on herself.

Re: Notre Dame Cathedral is burning down...

The cathedral's age is almost incomprehensible to us. When Henry IV said "Paris vaut une messe," Notre Dame was already 410 years old.

I read somewhere that the trees used for the majority of the interior were planted in the 8th century and the roof weighed 21 tons. :(

Re: Notre Dame Cathedral is burning down...

Hearing since this was state owned, there was no insurance... since the state has infinitely greater resources than any private insurer.

Thus the push by macron for private donations to rebuild:)

My lord the MAGAytes are a disgusting breed. Some of them make Flaggy seem sane.

I wouldn't say hate, rather he'd be disappointed or saddened in the way he thought about the situation. Jesus didn't hate - that was his whole thing in the minds of his authors.

Jesus let himself be nailed to a fvcking cross. Didn’t have a hateful bone in his body.

Jesus was also born in the Middle East... he was brown. As was Mary. Giddy up.

Re: Notre Dame Cathedral is burning down...

I am deeply envious.

I have heard you can still start out 30 miles outside of town in the farms and walk towards it, and watch as the towers and roof march up from the horizon -- as if you were back in 1200.

Imagine this in the middle of a Kansas wheat field:

Incredible. We'll probably never fully grasp the power and awe these things inspired 800 years ago.

Jesus was a WASP...I know every Church and Redneck told me so! He also had a six pack...cause he did lots of crunches in his spare time ;)

Oh and he hates Gays. And Muslims. And Trans. And Democrats. He basically loves George Washington and all of White Europe. :)

That's pretty controversial.

It's also because as a religious site ND hasn't been allowed to charge admission in over a century. That means the site gets nada from the estimated 30000 people who visit each day.

One imagines a religious institution that has deep pockets might foot the bill. Hey, doesn't the Catholic Church itself have a tidy sum of cash?

30;000 catfish a day and nobody tosses a franc into the basket?!?!

Re: Notre Dame Cathedral is burning down...

So I'm having problems linking pictures, but there are some new pictures from the inside at the bottom of ABC's live update page- https://abcnews.go.com/Internationa...ld-notre-dame-fire-destroys/story?id=62424888

Lots of damage, but not horrible.

Wow:

It was basically a fire pit. They did an incredible job to save the walls and towers:

If they do it is by choice. A 1905 law prohibits them from charging admission. That's true of any religious site in France.

Very few churches in the US charge admission..... not sure why the frogs are having you carry their water here (no pun intended)

Look closer at "the fire pit"- that's the roof burning on the top of the stone arches you see from the inside- that's NOT burning on ground level- according to Wiki, about 300ft up. Which is a very big deal in this. And it looks like only two of the arches were total losses where it all crashed down. One other failed in the middle, but that's it. And that's pretty remarkable relative to what we were all watching.

Oh, you're right, good catch! I did think that was ground level. I was wondering how in the hell the building had maintained structural integrity.
